OS : When you taught me how to dance!
Author's Note
Hello everyone! This shot is based on the scene when Rajveer taught Naina how to dance, in the mess. I owed this story to KayaTheFangirl since a long time now. Sorry Kaya for being super late, but I had never forgotten about this. 😊 Was just not getting time to write and wanted to use this in THE DESIRES, so delayed writing it, since I was waiting for the right time to use this scene in THE DESIRES. But today just thought of writing on it anyways. You might get this part in THE DESIRES or RAJVEER-NAINA-HUDA THE GIFT OF LOVE too, haven't decided where exactly will I include this, yet.😊
The song I'll be using here, it was Kaya who basically asked me to use this song on this particular scene, so here it is for you Kaya. 😊 Thank you so much Kaya for having trust in me that I'll be able to write on this. 😊 I hope I'll be able to live upto your expectations with this story of mine. 💖
I know she has deactivated her Wattpad account but I'll make sure that this reaches her anyways. 😊💖
So without delaying it further, let's begin with this. 😊
~*~*~
*Flashback*
Quickly pushing all the chairs and tables aside in the mess and making space Naina starts practicing dancing steps all alone assuming that she has a partner with her. But nevertheless inside she feels the lack of a partner. Suriji promised her that he would come and teach her dance steps but may be he is too busy today to fetch time and reach Naina at the time allotted by him.
She turns; she swivels all alone. And as she turns again, fully indulged in practicing she finds someone standing at the entrance of the mess, inclining himself on the entrance of the mess. His arms folded over his chest and calm smile playing on his lips as he stares her practicing all alone.
"Sorry Sir wo... Suri Sahab aane waley the... actually kal freshers' ball ki sequence ke liye unhone mujhey dance step practice karane the bus... isliye main yahan pe...",
says Naina, nervously.
Still standing in the same position, lowering his eyes, smiling throughout, Captain Rajveer takes a deep breath and looking back towards her, suggests her,
"To fir music band karke practice karo. Dance seekhne ka subse acha tareeka".
Getting excited, she says, her eyes twinkling,
"Bhaiya bhi yahi kehte the!"
Her smile fades away as soon as she remembers her brother and realizes that she shouldn't have said this.
Rajveer keeps staring her, calmly.
Lowering his eyes, taking a deep breath, Captain Rajveer walks towards her, into the mess.
Naina stands transfixed at her place, unable to decide how to react, nervously. His walk towards her skips her heartbeat but she ignores to acknowledge. But she couldn't refrain herself from lowering her eyes - a sign that his walk towards her; his presence around her; his minimizing the distance between them, is affecting her.
Reaching her, he bends, forwarding his right hand in front of her in all gentleman way, looking straight into her eyes, he asks permission,
"May I, have the pleasure?"
Nervously, Naina puts her hand upon his. And she doesn't realize that this gesture of hers is not merely giving him permission to dance with her, it is rather a gesture of letting him know that she is ready to trust him. She is ready to trust Captain Rajveer Singh Shekhawat - the first person in KMA, she is laying her full trust upon! She looks into his eyes and something in them tells her that she is doing nothing wrong by trusting him!
"Thank you!",
he says with such sweetness as if Naina is a delicate thing which might break into pieces if he raises his voice. As if she is an angel, who deserves to be talked with all the politeness of the world.
*Flashback ends*
Naina looks towards Rajveer, smiling, as she remembers the moment when he taught her to dance. She didn't know then that someday he would be the one with whom she would want to take her each step of life. She trusts him immensely today, there is no doubt about it.
Captain Rajveer, who is oblivious to Naina's stare, is standing in the middle of the main hall of KMA, engulfed by his students from all sides, requesting him to teach them how to dance, for the Christmas eve party. Captain Rajveer finds himself in a situation from where he sees no other way to escape apart from teaching them to dance. All of it makes him to laugh out loud.
Naina's heart skips a beat seeing a laughing Rajveer.
When you taught me how to dance
Years ago with misty eyes
Every step and silent glance
Every move a sweet surprise
Naina remembers how he very slowly engulfed her waist by his arm, never looking away from her eyes. While on the other hand out of shyness and nervousness Naina changed her vision every now and then sometimes looking towards him; sometimes lowering her eyes. This coming of a man so close to her was definitely her first experience! Her heart fluttered inside her chest. Her chest expanded and contracted in quick succession as she found it difficult to escape from that situation.
She stared him into his eyes as she found a certain kind of light in them, as if he was really enjoying this new subject that he was teaching her and only her!
As he pulled her towards him, that much close, her heart stopped beating for fraction of seconds. That pull; his possessive stare, everything was certainly a sweet surprise for Naina. As her heart beat again she realized how he didn't hesitate to pull her to him, as if he had world's all rights to be this close to her!
*Flashback*
"Shall we start?",
asks Rajveer as Naina positions her hands - one on his shoulder and one holding his other hand. A perfect ball dance posture!
Naina out of nervousness just smiles and nods her head. But this much signal is enough for Rajveer to move forth with her. But then when had he been demanding? Accepting everything about and everything from Naina as it comes, was, is and shall always remain his nature!
Naina takes the first step, when Rajveer points her out,
"Na... na!"
Naina halts immediately. As if his words are her immediate command. As if it's a reflex action for her - acting according to his words.
Smiling a little, he teaches her more than scolds,
"Aise nahi Cadet Singh".
Naina smiles apologetically.
"Pehle nazakat ke saath, apna right foot agey lekar aao!",
teaches Rajveer, lovingly, smiling.
He takes his left foot backward, teaching her; encouraging her; letting her know that he is there to help if she takes any wrong step.
And it's a promise that Rajveer makes to Naina silently, not only for this dance but he would be there to hold her back; scold her if needed, if she takes any wrong step in her life; help her if she ever falters while taking any step in her life.
"Ab apna left foot... aise... ab apna right foot... aise...",
he teaches further, never ending their precious eye contact.
He lets her roll out of his embrace but never leaves her hand! And then rolls her back towards his chest such that her back is against his chest and their faces too close! With such closeness and his arm engulfing her, if he wants he can do his heart's desire to her. And somehow deep down he is sure that she wouldn't mind him doing so but being a gentleman he would never take such bold step, not at least now when something has just started culminating between them; culminating inside his heart! Something which he himself is not sure about!
*Flashback ends*
Someone must have taught you well
To beguile and to entrance
For that night you cast your spell
And you taught me how to dance
Staring him still, with a sweet smile on her face with her dreamy eyes Naina appreciates how he is not only a perfect teacher of 'Strategies and Communication' but also a great dance teacher.
She remembers how that night something did change in her heart for him! She couldn't stop smiling since the moment she left the mess that night.
She remembers how he warned her lightly from asking him - who taught him dancing.
*Flashback*
"Sir, ek sawal karun apse?",
she asks, as he pulls her back into his embrace.
Rolling her out, he pulls her back into his embrace and inclines her to the left, inclining into her himself too.
Embracing him by his neck to support her body weight, looking straight into his eyes, smiling, she warns him,
"Personal sawaal hai!"
"Pucho!",
permits Rajveer, standing her up.
"Lekin ye mat puchna ke maine dance kahan se seekha?",
he warns her lightly.
Stretching their right arms, such that their right arms are on each other's left shoulder, standing opposite each other, they continue dancing.
*Flashback ends*
Although she never intended to ask him that, but she cannot deny the fact that when he did warn her, suddenly she got eager to know who actually taught him dancing! Because her gut feelings told her that it must be an interesting story that he is feeling shy to share.
Naina laughs silently as she remembers this. She thinks - not only dancing but someone must have also taught him when to warn someone so that he/she doesn't ask an inappropriate question from him suddenly. She laughs more.
She thinks how she was unable to go away from him how hard might she try, as if he had casted a magical spell around her that was pulling her to him at a great velocity.
*Flashback*
"Kuch bhi to main nahi puchungi Sir!",
she says, smiling.
"Kyunki jis saawal ka jawab janne ke liye, maine ye academy join kari thi...",
she says looking straight into his eyes.
They alternates their arms.
"Uss sawal ka jawab to apne mujhe diya nahi!",
she says in a sugar coated voice.
But Captain Rajveer too knows how to play this game. He chooses to remain quiet. Not that Naina was expecting a quick reply because this much she has understood that he is too smart to fall in such easy traps of hers!
"Par...",
says Naina, and they change the arms again.
Stretching out their one hand then, they hold each other and Rajveer pulls her to him. And as he pulls her back into his embrace they reach again closest to each other!
"Iss sawal ka jawab to mujhey lagta hai mujhey mil hi jayega!",
says Naina, buttering Rajveer, standing so close to him that she can almost hear his heartbeat, only if she would have paid her attention on it.
"Pehle main ye to jaan lun ke sawal kya hai!",
says Rajveer, rolling her out of his embrace and getting back to their dancing position.
Inside, Naina thinks he certainly knows how to play it safe!
"Now your left foot towards your right!",
he guides her.
She doesn't fail to follow his instructions. Whilst doing so she asks, keeping a check on her each word,
"Ahmm... pichle dino Sir, apne meri bohot madad ki..."
They change their sides and continue with the same step.
"Sub test mein, acha na score karne ke baad bhi, apne mera hausla barhaya. Kyun Sir?",
she asks, eager to know why is he helping her this much?
"Kyunki Cadet Naina Singh...",
begins he to explain, leaving her; standing in front of her; getting away a little; holding his waist from either sides; looking straight into her eyes.
"...iss academy ko..."
He walks to his right, crossing her from behind, as he continues,
"Achey cadets ki zarurat hai, aur aap..."
Quickly coming in front of her, looking towards her with his twinkling eyes, he holds her hand, bending a little to look into her eyes, he continues,
"Ek bohot achi cadet hain..."
They return back to their dancing position and continues with their dance.
"Nahi Sir! Apka mere pe itna vishwaas; itna support.... mere aur batchmates bhi to hain? Wo bhi mujhse ache cadets hain? Par... aap kyun itne mehrbaan hain mujh par Sir? Kyun?",
asks Naina.
Rajveer takes a deep breath, trying to avoid the question. Thinking a way to change the topic whilst rolling her back towards him.
"Sir kabhi kabhi mujhey ye kyun lagta hai ke aap mujhse kuch chupa rahe hain?",
asks Naina, looking straight into his eyes but hesitation in her voice!
And as soon as she asks this, as if a current runs through his body, he leaves her immediately, staring her out of shock! No doubt he had thought about this situation - her asking him this question, but this soon? And why at this moment when he was enjoying her company?
*Flashback ends*
Light reflections in a lake
I recall what went before
As I give, I'll learn to take
And to be alone no more
Naina remembers how he left her immediately. Even today as she remembers the moment, a shiver runs down her spine. She realizes how she was feeling protected in his arms and the moment he left her something broke inside her chest! The warmth she was feeling till then vanished altogether. The magical spell broke altogether. She didn't intend to hurt his feelings and when he left her something inside her told her to apologize immediately so that he takes her into his embrace once again. But her motive of joining KMA became a hindrance in doing so!
She remembers how after coming to KMA; after meeting Rajveer she started to get the feeling of solace but at that moment she felt as if someone had snatched him away from her!
*Flashback*
"Kya janna chahti ho tum? Kya itna kafi nahi ke tum academy mein wapas aa gayi?",
asks Rajveer leaving her, holding his waist from either side. Looking away from her, out of frustration and irritation because of her same questions.
Turning to look towards Naina, he continues,
"Bina kisi ke mehrbani ke!"
Naina apologizes, lowering her eyes and head,
"I am sorry Sir!"
"Good luck Cadet Singh!",
wishing her luck out of anger, but in lower magnitude, he walks away, when Naina calls him from behind.
"Sir!"
"No Cadet Singh, no more questions!",
says Captain Rajveer, sternly.
"Sub kuch waqt par chor do... wo tumhe tumhare jawab ke bina jeena sikha dega!",
continues Captain Rajveer never turning back towards Naina.
As he walks another step forward, Naina interrupts again,
"Par Sir, mujhey dance step kon sikhayega?"
"Suriji to lagta hai, bhool hi gaye hain!",
she continues.
"Apne mera haath thama tha..., aur ab aap bhi ja rahe hain?"
Her these words don't fail to affect him. Not that her previous words fell into deaf ears. No, Rajveer can never ignore her for anything! But these words did have the utmost affect on him. The words with double meanings!
Turning, he looks towards her, all serious. His silence breaks Naina's heart a bit. She holds her breath and waits for him to react, may be scold her more! He walks a step closer to her. Naina lowers her eyes.
Suddenly to her utter surprise, he jumps a small step like they do before starting a dance; his face bearing a smile and his eyes twinkling. All of these gestures of his come as a surprise for Naina. She widens her eyes out of surprise. It takes few moments for her to understand that he really did that. An anticlockwise mood? now that's surprising and no denial - amazing!
"Shall we dance?",
he asks, back in his carefree voice.
Smiling, Naina obliges. They both laugh noiselessly, enjoy each other's company and begin dancing again.
"La... la... la la",
sings Rajveer, in full mood as he dances with her.
But he doesn't find her dancing with perfection. And Captain Rajveer, perfection is of utmost importance. We can say, 'Perfectionist' is the other name of Captain Rajveer Singh Shekhawat!
Creasing his brows, but not exactly angry, rather smiling, he points out Naina,
"Galat!"
He stops and still holding her hands, he tells Naina,
"Naina Singh tum sub bilkul galat kar rahi ho!"
And with these words, he doesn't understand when he conveys her secretly that she is doing it wrong by not trusting him!
Smiling, thinking of a way to teach her, Rajveer asks her,
"Acha ye batao, gaun mein kabhi aurton ko dahi birodte hue dekha hai?"
Thinking for a moment, Naina shakes her head into negative, smiling.
"Nahi dekha?",
asks Rajveer, his heart sinking a little as he has to explain her properly now.
"Arey tum to Almorah ki ho na? Acha koi baat nahi main tumhe batata hun. Jab gaun mein auratein dahi ko birodti hain to kuch aise karti hain...",
and he does the same but in a way as if he is doing a dancing step.
He counts the beats,
"1... 2... 3... 4..."
Naina laughs, enjoying seeing him this way.
"Dancing mein bilkul waisa hi karte hain sirf humare haath side mein hone chahiye!",
and he takes his hands on either sides of his to show her how.
"Kaise... 1! 2! 3! 4!",
saying that he shows her the dancing step counting the same beats.
Naina laughs, enjoying all this.
Holding her hands, looking straight into her eyes, he says,
"Come!"
And they dance in the same beat, enjoy it!
"3... 4... 5... 6... 7... 8... 9... 10!!!",
he counts, emphasizing on 10, raising his voice out of excitement! Naina laughs throughout.
"Left! Right! Left! Right! Left! Right!"
"And turn... and turn...",
he turns her around giving her his finger to hold, as she rotates, enjoying it.
Leaving her, he enjoys seeing her laughing with all her heart, for the first time.
"Cadet Naina Singh aap itna hans leti hain, ye mujhey aaj malum parha hai!",
says Rajveer looking at her constantly, immensely happy on witnessing this Naina.
"Aur Sir aap bhi itna hans lete hain, ye mujhey bhi aaj hi malum parha hai!",
laughing, enjoying witnessing too this new Rajveer!
*Flashback Ends*
Naina laughs as she remembers the whole conversation that took place between herself and Captain Rajveer during this dance practice.
Other lights may light my way
I may even find romance
But I won't forget that night
When you taught me how to dance
Staring him with a blush on her face and twinkling eyes, Naina thinks how that moment is so special to her. She would never forget her first dance lesson taught by her favourite Captain Rajveer. When he taught her how to dance!
~*~*~
"Maine bohot badi galti kardi"
Rajveer's loud voice, skips Naina's heartbeat and drags her out of her trance. She gets alert, creasing her brows.
"Bohot badi galti kar di maine Brigadier Chandok se request karke ke kal 15th August ke celebration ke baad shaam ko aap sub ke liye ek party rakhi jaye. Upar se ball dance ka idea de kar to maine zindagi ki subse badi bhool ki I guess!",
scolds Captain Rajveer.
All the cadets bow their heads in shame.
"Sorry Sir!",
comes the first apology from Pooja.
Others follow her.
Unable to control himself anymore Captain Rajveer laughs. Suddenly his eyes fall on Naina, who is now sitting on a seat and staring him with a smile on her face.
While all start discussing among themselves, Rajveer walks towards Naina.
(Slow Rajveer-Naina guitar tune begins as he walks towards her, staring her throughout. Naina too doesn't fail to stare back)
Forwarding his hand towards her in all gentleman style, smiling, he asks,
"Steps abhi bhi yaad hai ya firse sikhaun?"
When Naina was expecting him to say - 'May I, have the pleasure?', his these words skip Naina's heartbeat and makes her to blush. Shutting her eyes out of shyness, she silently accepts - even though it's been an year since that day, but even today she needs to learn a lot about him. He never fails to surprise her by his words! And how can he, when he is the teacher of 'Strategies and Communication'!
Smiling, she places her hand on his extended hand, her eyes twinkle looking straight towards him. He holds her hand possessively, never ending the eye contact and pulls her up into a standing position and together they walk towards the crowd to dance. Whilst all this the moments flash in front of Naina's eyes, when he taught her how to dance!
