Akrios, Village near Pyramid

I scratched my head looking around. I'm at the the main road of the village dressed in my typical rags and searching for someone. Most people don't get in my way afraid of someone like me. Someone who's dressed like thug and armed is usually bad sign. I put my hand in the pocket feeling the seal that I'm suppose to show Sphinx for her to even care.

Rana stayed to guard the temple. She said that despite the state it's in she prefers to not leave the palace unguarded especially with Pharaoh still asleep and if someone managed to dig to her chamber who knows what they might do. While Pharaoh might be very powerful after waking up she'll be confused and in rather weak state until she'll recover.

(Y/N) : Hey, you!

Villager : Y-Yes?

I walked up to a young villager. His voice broke when I quick made it to him. My face being additionally covered in rags and my voice being muffled must give him quite a scare. I have to be quick so guards won't get suspicious and try to stop me.

(Y/N) : Calm down. I just want some informations about a certain someone.

Villager : A-And who are you looking for?

(Y/N) : A Sphinx.

His face suddenly brighten up and a few people who were walking nearby cheered up a bit. I looked around in surprise and then back to the villager who seems to calm down completely and relax now that I'm not looking for anyone from their village.

Villager : There is one in the house near oasis. She wanted to give riddles in exchange for water but guards stopped her and said that she'll be thrown out if she tries anything.

(Y/N) : Anything else?

Villager : Moswen - our elder - will give anyone reward for taking Sphinx away. So you might get a few extra coins for helping if you'll manage to get her away.

(Y/N) : Sure, sounds good. Which house is it?

Villager : It's the one nearest to oasis. You'll see a few stray cats always nearby.

I raised my hand to thank him and decided that it's best to be on my way to Sphinx's lair. After a short while I found the way to oasis and just as the villager described there was a house at the very end. I saw cats almost laying siege to the place... I looked in throught one of the windows seeing the house being full of pillows... Like there was almost no floor visable.

I walked to the door and knocked on it. I heard a rustling inside before some rushed at the door. it quickly opened and the Sphinx stood before me. She was very excited to see me standing there and she took a proud pose.

Nour : Hello there, traveler! Did you come to use my oasis?! I am Nour and I'm a Sphinx! You have to answer my riddle but if you'll answer wrong I'll make you into my husband!

(Y/N) : Nice to meet you. I'm (Y/N) and I come here with this.

Nour : NYA!

She jumped back from me, falling on her butt. Thankfully she had pillows everywhere. She stare at the hand and started to cover in fear. Suddenly she cralwed on all four to my legs and hugged them while looking up at me.

Nour : Nya! Please don't punish me! I left because there was no one coming and I... I, uhhh, I just went for a break!

(Y/N) : Oh, really? Rana told me that you left half-a-year ago...

Nour : Oh no! She kept count... What I mean is I just, you know, entertain myself with those villager. I mean half-a-year in the eternal service isn't too much, right?

(Y/N) : Normally maybe not, but you abandoned your post and Pharaoh.

Nour : Is... Is she going to punish me?

(Y/N) : I don't know... She's still asleep.

Her fearful look changed into glare as she pushed herself away from me and standing at her full height! ...Reaching to my chest. Her scared demanour change completely into an angry one. Just in case I put my hand on my mace and glare right at her.

Nour : Then why should I even care? Going back to that ruin to watch it fall apart?

(Y/N) : We need your help with restoring the pyramid.

Nour : We?

(Y/N) : I and Rana.

Nour : Just the two of you?! And how are you even planing on restoring the pyramid? No one will work for monsters in times like this. Even if do you even have money? What do you have?

(Y/N) : Determination, I'm going to help Rana because I promised.

Nour : What is she to you? Is she your wife? If so then do her a favour and take her away from those ruins.

(Y/N) : Maybe she's not my wife... But even someone like me can't look at a girl breaking down in tears in front of me.

Nour : Wait, you mean Rana broke down in tears? The almighty and professional Rana? The girl that has her caster staff so far up her ass she can hit you in the head if she opened her mouth? Nyahahahah! Now that's gold!

(Y/N) : I get it that you don't even care but people put up bounty on you. Payed if someone were to force you out of here.

Nour : If someone were to try I'll make them my husband!

(Y/N) : Maybe a simple thug, what if a group will come? Or a professional bounty hunter? Your eternal live won't protect you from a slit throath or snapped neck. You said yourself how humans treat monsters right now. We can try changing it. And trust me crying Rana is nothing ease to look at...

Nour : I wouldn't care less if someone were to come here and wanted me to help them with that mountain of debris... but I care about Rana like older sister despite our often arguments... but since you beg me so much I will help you!

(Y/N) : Great, now just a little something so we will get that reward...

I pulled a short rope and tied it around Nour's wrists explaining my plan to her. She giggled and called me a mischevious and naughty boy. I pulled her ropes and took her to village's head showing that I captured their problematic neighbour. Moswen was more than happy to hand me a small moneybag filled with coins for solving the matter but at the time he was sad seeing Nour 'all beaten up and tied up'.

He explained that he met many monsters in his life and not all of them were just forceful rapists. He looked at Nour and said that she was probably misunderstood but he has to do what it takes to help his people survive far out in the desert. I went outside and looked for a courier who are easy to find almost everywhere where humans or monsters live.

This town courier was a large harpy, probably a vulture. Her huge wings were fluttering in the wind comig from the desert as she was sitting on a stoll with large sign 'COURIER' standing next to her. She had a large bag on the table behind the sign. I walked over to her and paid her a few coins before putting half of what's in the moneybag to the empty one and saying to carry it to Twin Village.

I signed the magic contract and she assured me that it will be there by tomorrow. Those contracts are the reason why they won't take what's given to them. The moment it's signed the magic message is burnt out in the page of the location it's suppose to reach. If the package won't by there by date then specially designed hunters are to find courier, be it human or monster and take them back even by force.

After walking out of the village I got rid of the ropes biding Nour and let her stretch her... paws, before walking towards the pyramid.

Nour : So, what's with you giving up so much money?

(Y/N) : Eh, I sent it to my sisters. Two of them, both younger. My parents are working hard but it's sometimes not enough and I don't want them to be a burden and having to take drastic measures.

Nour : Wow, your family must be proud of you.

(Y/N) : Father resents me after he find out that I'm robbing pyramids to feed our family but I don't care. I'm fine knowing that they're fed and safe.

Nour : My parents were so proud once I was picked to serve the young Pharaoh. We met when we were children... But after I became her guardian I didn't have much time for my own family...

(Y/N) : Seems like we have something in common.

We both laughed and continue walking. Once we reached the pyramid Nour took a deep breath before walking inside the pyramid. She explained that she preparing mentally to face Rana but she didn't have much time for that since said Anubis was waiting for us almost at the entrance. Nour seemed to shrink under Rana's gaze.

Rana : You have no idea in how big of a trouble you're in.

Nour : Help me...

I stood to the side with a silly smile as I watched Rana berate Nour as if she was her mother or older sister. The Anubis' every word seemed to make Nour get even smaller and smaller as she kept on going... Until she suddenly pulled the poor Sphinx into her death hug. I could see small tears escape both of their eyes as they held onto each other.

Rana : Come on, (Y/N), join in you're part of the family now.

Nour : It's not fair for only me to be trapped in her death hug! Move it!

I simple laughed as I walked over to both of them and spread my arms for them to jump into me. Rana to my left and Nour on my right. They nuzzled into me and welcomed me into the family of guardians. Well, I guess I put that fate on myself the moment I went back to help Rana.
