The feelings start to show

I sat on the sofa, looking at my phone. Suddenly, there was a knock on my door.

"YN! It's Dove!" a muffled voice sounded through the wood. I smiled as I stood up.

"You're not lost again, are you?" I chuckled, walking to the door.

"No!" she squealed. I chuckled and shook my head as I opened the door and smiled at Dove.

"Hello." She giggled. I looked around, not being able to see Calum.

"I thought that you said you weren't lost, honey." I sighed, leaning against the doorway as I looked at her.

"I'm not lost, daddy is just slow." She shrugged.

"Dove, I thought that I told you to wait." Calum sighed as he suddenly appeared from the stairs. He smiled as he saw me.

"Hey." He smiled.

"Hey." I returned.

"So, we were going to ask you over again for dinner, but Dove beat me to it." He chuckled slightly, looking down at her and ruffling her hair.

"We got takeout." He smiled, holding up a plastic bag. I chuckled.

"Let me grab my bag." I smiled before heading back into my apartment.

"Okay, so we got Chinese food." Calum spoke as he shut the apartment door.

"Aww, my favourite" I chuckled. He returned it before starting to get the food out of the bag. Dove climbed up onto one of the dining chairs and immediately bit into a spring roll.

"Oy." Calum chuckled. She shrugged and giggled as we sat down and started to eat.

"So, why is Chinese your favourite?" Calum asked, making small talk.

"I grew up living down the street from a Chinese takeout place, so I grew to love it." I shrugged, eating some noodles.

"Oh, you got something-." He started to talk, gently raising his thumb and wiping something off the edge of my mouth.

"Thanks." I gave him a small smile as he looked softly at me.

"No bother." He spoke gently. I looked at him.

"Why are you two looking at each other like that?" Dove asked innocently. We both looked at her, making Calum gulp.

"Eat up, honey." He mumbled, avoiding eye contact with me. I smiled slightly to myself before going back to my food.

"Is there no chance that I can see him?" I asked.

"What are you expecting me to do?" Cassie scoffed.

"I don't know, Cass, but I know other people in my situation who have been allowed to do this." I replied. I heard her sigh.

"I'm not sure what else to say, honey. I'll see if I can pull any more strings, but it's not looking good." She spoke. I sighed.

"What brought this on?" she asked.

"What?" I scoffed.

"You've not seen him in seven years. So, why are you suddenly desperate to see him?" she asked. I shrugged.

"I met a guy, and he has a daughter. I don't know, she reminds me of him." I mumbled. I heard her sigh again.

"Right. Well, that's not going to help your cause, but I'll see what I can do." She spoke.

"Thanks, I appreciate it-." I was cut off by a knock on my door.

"Someone's at the door. I'll call you later." I spoke.

"Yeah. One more thing, honey." She spoke.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"...Don't get your hopes up." She mumbled. I sighed and nodded to myself before hanging up I gulped, trying to collect my thoughts before walking to the front door and opening it.

"Hey, Cal." I smiled.

"Hey." He returned.

"Where's Dove?" I asked.

"She's staying with my sister for a few days, so I thought that it was the perfect opportunity to ask you out for dinner." He spoke. My eyebrows furrowed.

"Dinner...without Dove...like a date?" I asked.

"Yes. A date" he nodded. I smiled at him.

"Sure, I'd love to go out with you." I nodded.

"Brilliant. I'll pick you up at eight tonight." He smiled.

"Awesome." I spoke. He smiled before leaning in and kissing my cheek.

"See you tonight." He smiled before walking away.
