Telling Dove
I sat at Calum's kitchen table, sipping my coffee and looking at the paper. He walked into the room with his phone in his hand.
"That was Mali, my sister. She says that she's bringing Dove back now, so they should be here soon." He smiled as he sat down.
"Are we, um...are we going to tell her about us?" I asked nervously.
"Of course, why wouldn't we?" he chuckled slightly. I looked down.
"I don't know, just...well, I'm your first girlfriend since your ex left the two of you and she doesn't know, so..." I stuttered.
"Babe, she loves you. The first night that you came to dinner, it was her idea." He reassured, placing his hand over mine. I smiled slightly.
"Really?" I asked. He nodded and smiled.
"But that's another thing, she doesn't know about her mum." I spoke. Calum sighed and looked down.
"I wasn't planning on telling her until she was older. She's a smart girl, but she won't understand yet." He shrugged.
"I just, I think that she should know, that's all." I spoke.
"I agree, babe, but she's too young and her mum wasn't bothered about her knowing that she was her mum. She literally said that I could claim that my future wife was Dove's mum." He scoffed, shaking his head. I nodded.
"Okay. I trust you." I smiled. He returned it before standing up and pecking my lips. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"And that'll be my sister." Calum smiled as he walked towards the door and opened it. I stood up and nervously twiddled my fingers, suddenly becoming very self-conscious at the fact that I was only wearing Calum's shirt over my underwear.
"Hey, Cal." The woman smiled as she leant forward. Calum leant forward too and pecked her cheek before picking up Dove.
"Hey, my little princess! Did you have fun with auntie Mali?" he smiled at her.
"The best!" she squealed. Mali chuckled before her gaze drifted to me.
"I'm sorry, I don't believe that we've met." She smiled, walking forward and extending her hand.
"I'm Y/N, nice to meet you." I returned, shaking her hand.
"And you." She smiled before turning to Calum. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"This is Y/N, my new girlfriend." He spoke, putting Dove down. Mali's eyes widened slightly.
"Oh. Wow. That's awesome, wow. Congrats, guys." She chuckled, looking between us.
"No need to sound so surprised." Calum scoffed.
"Well, I just...you've not been in a relationship since Sarah, so...wow, well done for finally getting back on the saddle." She nodded.
"Thanks, I guess." He spoke.
"I best be going, my own boyfriend is waiting for me. See you love birds later." She chuckled before walking through the door and leaving.
"Sorry about her. She's been asking me for the past four years if I've finally got a new partner." He chuckled slightly, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
"It's okay, she's sweet." I smiled. He returned it as Dove ran up to me and hugged my legs.
"Y/N, I missed you." She smiled up at me. I returned it.
"I missed you too." I chuckled, picking her up. Her eyebrows furrowed slightly.
"Why are you wearing daddy's shirt?" she asked, blissfully unaware of the situation. I gulped as I looked at Calum.
"We have something to tell you, baby girl." He spoke, taking her from me and sitting her down on the armchair. Calum and I sat on the opposite sofa. I smiled slightly as Calum took my hands.
"Honey, while you were away, daddy and Y/N went out for a few meals together and we found out that we like each other. Quite a lot." Calum spoke slowly. Dove smiled as she nodded.
"Do you understand what we're saying, babe?" he asked.
"You're saying that Y/N is going to be my new mummy!" she squealed excitedly, jumping up in her seat. My eyes widened as I looked at Calum.
"No, baby girl, it's way too early for anything like that, we just like each other right now." Calum chuckled slightly. Dove's smile faltered.
"Oh." She mumbled.
"Don't let that upset you, honey, you never know, she may be your mummy in the future." He reassured. I bit my lip and smiled as I looked at Calum. He returned it as he grasped my hand.
"Back to the point, do you understand what your daddy and I liking each other means, love?" I asked. She nodded.
"It means that you're boyfriend and girlfriend." She spoke in her adorable little voice. We smiled at her.
"Yes, baby girl, that's right. I'm glad that you understand." Calum nodded.
"I'm glad that you like each other. I want a new mummy." She smiled before hopping down from the chair and skipping into her room. Calum and I looked at each other.
"Well...that went well...I think." I spoke.
"No, it did...I think." Calum chuckled. I returned it before pecking his lips.
