40| NERON TAKES OVER A FRIEND

[ Chapter Forty ]

❝I know I'm better with a sword, Nate, but you're really underestimating my abilities.❞

The ship was eerily quiet when Nate and Myra stepped back on it.

"We should split up." Nate told her.

Myra raised an eyebrow at her best-friend, "You know that's how people die in horror movies."

"This isn't a horror movie, Myr." Nate rolled his eyes.

"It sure looks like one." Myra said, looking around the dimly lit ship as the two walked down the corridor.

"Okay it is weirdly quiet but Ray's probably just working." Nate shrugged, "And we'll find him faster if we just split up."

"Fine, but if I die, I told you so." Myra said before walking off in the opposite direction of Nate.

Everytime the ship was this quiet, Myra knew something bad was going to happen. Myra peered into Ray's room, hoping that he was just in there and was actually cleaning like he said he was, but the room was empty.

Myra peered into several other rooms, but there was no sign of him anywhere. A loud clattering sounded from the direction of the galley and Myra's eyes widened before she broke into a run.

When Myra emerged in the doorway of the galley she saw Nate on the ground and Ray punching him.

"Ray, get the hell off of him" Myra yelled and without hesitation raced towards Ray and tackled him to the ground.

Unfortunately for her, Ray was larger than her and he easily got up and pushed her to the ground. Myra rolled away before standing up.

"No. You can't fight him, Myra! He's possessed by Neron." Nate yelled, struggling to get up from the ground.

Myra's eyes widened and she cleared her throat, "Ray. I know you're in there. You can fight him."

"I'm trying." Ray yelled as he lunged for Myra.

Myra sidestepped him before taking a running leap and kicking him in the chest.

"Myra you're not strong enough to fight him." Nate told her.

"I know I'm better with a sword, Nate, but you're really underestimating my abilities." Myra argued back, but he was probably right. He had the enhanced strength because of Neron, and he was easily overpowering her and Nate. As if to prove that point Ray hit her and Myra flew back and hit the opposite wall.

Myra groaned with pain, and tried to get up but when she even lifted her head, the room spun. She could see the outline of Ray heading towards Nate.

"Ray please!" Myra called out, wincing as she tried again to pull herself up to a standing position.

Myra watched as Ray repeatedly hit Nate until he picked up a knife. Myra's eyes widened as she watched him struggle to hold the knife back.

"Okay!" Ray yelled, "I give up! I give up, do you hear me, Neron? Spare Nate and Myra and I'll let you have me."

"Ray don't!" Myra called out.

"Just promise me you won't hurt them and I won't resist." Ray said, and suddenly Ray was gone.

Myra shut her eyes in pain as she watched 'Ray' or rather Neron set down the knife and abandoned both Myra and Nate on the ground.

Myra dragged herself across the floor towards Nate, "Are you okay?"

"Nothing Gideon can't fix." Nate winced and looked her over, "What about you?"

"Eh, I probably have a concussion but it's nothing I can't handle." Myra shrugged and pulled her knees into her chest as she sat beside Nate, "What are we going to do?"

"I don't know." Nate said.

"Come on. Sara and the others will be back soon, we've got to tell them before he tries to kill any more of us." Myra said, "Do you think you can get up?"

Myra pushed herself off the ground, wincing again as the entire room spun several times before righting itself. Myra held out her hand to help Nate up, and she put his arm around her shoulders and hers around his waist before the two limped towards the bridge.

All the lights suddenly came on and Myra glanced around, "Guess Neron's gone."

The two stumbled onto the bridge to see Sara, Ava and Zari returned from the mission and clutching a golden egg.

"Nate!" Zari cried and rushed over to them, helping the two of them sit down on the steps.

Sara and Ava bent next to them as Zari sat next to Nate.

"What happened?" Zari asked.

"Ray." Nate choked out.

"Neron's got him." Myra finished.

"I'm fine." Myra said after Gideon ran a health scan on her.

"Ms. Shang you have a minor concussion, I suggest you stay in the med-bay until I can fix it." Gideon instructed.

"What I really need is a drink. Besides, Nate is worse." Myra said nodding over at her best-friend who was lying next to her, "But fine."

"Thanks Myr." Nate grumbled, "And I also need a drink."

Gideon resumed her healing on Myra for several more minutes before declaring that she could sit up and see how she felt. Myra opened and closed her eyes, "Thanks Gideon. I feel much better."

"I'd suggest you take it slow Ms. Shang but I know you probably won't follow my advice." Gideon instructed.

Myra laughed, "You know me too well, Gideon."

Nate sat up, even though he was far from healed and right then Zari entered the med-bay clutching the gold egg that they had retrieved on their last mission. Zari set down the egg immediately and rushed over to Nate, "Nate. You need to sit back down, you're not healed yet."

"What we need is to find Ray." Nate shook his head.

"Z's right, Nate. You can't help find Ray in that condition. No offense." Myra said and then looked at Zari, "I'm going to go get a drink. I'll leave you two alone."

Myra sent Nate a knowing smile before leaving the med-bay. Myra headed straight for the galley but was cornered by Charlie.

"Myra, um, I need to tell you something." Charlie told her.

"Can you do it over whiskey because after the week I've had, I need at least three bottles." Myra asked, continuing to the galley.

"You're going to need it." Charlie nodded and waited for Myra to take out the whiskey and pour them both a glass before she continued, "Neron has John."
