29| COMFORTING NATE

[ Chapter Twenty-Nine ]

❝I don't have to tell you it wasn't your fault, right?❞

[Seance and Sensibility]

Myra got the news of Nate's father's death before any of the other Legends did. In fact he video-called her a few hours later, still hyperventilating.

"Nate. Calm down." Myra said, as she paced in her room, "Tell me what happened."

"I don't know. I walked into his office and she was there literally standing over my father's body." Nate said, trying to slow his breathing.

It was clear that Nate was panicking and Myra honestly didn't blame him at all.

"Wait. Who was standing there?" Myra asked, pausing in her pacing.

"Nora." Nate answered.

"Nora did this?" Myra asked, feeling a little shocked.

"Yeah, you aren't the only one who's confused." Nate answered her.

"I don't know why but I thought she'd turned over a new leaf. I guess we were wrong." Myra said, "Shit."

"Yeah um. Is there any way you could come here?" Nate asked.

Myra nodded to him over the call, "Yeah of course. Also we'll figure out what happened, Nate."

"Yeah." Nate answered.

"Okay, I'll be there in a bit." Myra promised and hung up.

Myra grabbed a bag and stuffed some things in it before she opened a portal to the Time Bureau.

Myra noticed that there seemed to be increased security measures when she got in and she quickly ducked into an empty office to try and figure out where Nate was.

She immediately re-called him, "Where are you?"

"Where are you?" Nate asked.

She panned around the room with the camera, "Wherever the heck this is."

"Sorry, I don't really have an office and my dad's is blocked off because it's evidence." Nate remarked and she could see he was walking.

"No it's fine, I understand. I just didn't really expect there to already be increased security." Myra said.

"Government job. Government perks, I guess." Nate said, "Okay I'm almost there."

"If you don't want to be here, we can go somewhere else." Myra told him.

"And go where? Back to the ship where I'll have to announce to everyone about my dad being dead, or back to my house where I'll have to face my mom." Nate asked, in an agitated voice.

"Good point." Myra said as she got comfy on the sofa in the office they were currently in. She looked over at Nate who had collapsed on the other side of the sofa, "Nate. You know I'm always here for you, right?"

"Yeah. Of course I do Myr." Nate commented.

"I don't have to tell you it wasn't your fault, right?" Myra asked.

"No. I mean, I don't know." Nate responded.

"Nate it wasn't your fault." Myra promised him, "I promise. I know what it's like for someone's death to be your fault, and trust me it's not good. So, please don't think of this as your fault because it wasn't."

"Myr your sister's death wasn't your fault either." Nate told her.

"You've said that to me for years but it was my fault, Nate and I will never recover from that guilt. But this was not your fault, so I don't want you feeling any of that." Myra told him.

"Then it was Nora's fault." Nate said.

Myra rolled her eyes, "Okay we don't know that either. We just know she was in the room. But if you really need someone to blame I guess it's better that you blame her instead of yourself for now."

Nate sighed, "What do I do now?"

Myra sighed, "You grieve."

Myra hung around Nate and his mom for the next week or so in order to help them prepare the funeral.

On the day of the funeral, Myra decided to go with the Legends to the funeral, or the Legends who actually decided to attend which did not include Charlie or Mona.

"How is he?" Ray asked Myra as she met the others on the bridge.

"Not great." Myra admitted, "He really doesn't know what to do."

"I shouldn't go." Ray said, shaking his head.

"What?" Myra asked, "Of course you're going. He's your best friend and he needs you."

"But Nora-" Ray started.

"We don't know if Nora did it, yet. And even if she did, it's not your fault." Myra promised.

Sara and the others suddenly appeared.

"Are we ready?" Sara asked.

"Yeah." Myra nodded, as they went outside.

The whole way over to the funeral, Myra could tell that Ray still really didn't want to go to the funeral and right when they were about to walk in, he said so.

"Um maybe I shouldn't intrude." Ray commented

"Nate needs all of our support right now." Sara told him.

"What am I supposed to say to him?" Ray asked, "Sorry that the woman I've been exchanging love letters with in prison killed your dad?"

John laughed, "They ought to put that on a condolence card."

Myra rolled her eyes at him, "And it's not killed. It's might have killed."

Sara shot her a look, "Look, we are going inside and we are going to strive with grace to help our friend cope with his loss."

Sara glared at John and pulled the cigarette that he was about to light out of his mouth.

"Now come on." Sara said to them.

Myra followed her, "I hate funerals."

"No one likes funerals, Myra." John said.

"Well you probably do." Myra snipped back at him.

John glared at her as they entered the room.

"I'm going to get a drink." Myra said.
