27| THE TRUTH BUG ATTACKS

[ Chapter Twenty-Seven ]

❝Actually, I don't hate you that much and I definitely think you're attractive.❞

[The Getaway]

"They're gaining." Mick remarked, unimpressed from the backseat, as they peeled away from the cop.

"The sirens didn't give it away?" Myra grumbled, rolling her eyes.

"Yeah, I don't think that's the cops on us, mate." John said from beside Myra.

"Aw hell. Not Nate's dad." Myra cursed.

"We gotta lose Hank." Sara said and turned to look at John, "You got something for this, John?"

"I might but I'll need you to get us off the road quick, squire." John said to Sara and Ray.

John stood up and murmured, "Absconditus Domus."

The whole RV shook for a second as Ray peeled off the road to a small side road and stopped. Ray messed with the radio and someone's voice came over the radio, sounding suspiciously like Zari.

Myra and John turned to look at each other and grinned, immediately recognizing their friend's voice.

"Alright, you heard her. We should keep a low profile." Sara said as she got out of the driver's seat and came back to the others, "If we leave by night, we should be able to make it. In the meantime, no drawing attention, and no altering the timeline."

"Well, we best keep that bug bottled then, aye?" John asked, looking at Myra.

"Why the hell are you looking at me?" Myra narrowed her eyes at him, but he didn't answer.

"The only way to keep it contained is for everyone to stay completely honest." Sara said.

President Nixon suddenly stepped out of the closet and asked, "What the hell is going on here?"

Sara rolled her eyes and shot him with the stun gun again, "Maybe it's best if we all just don't talk."

"Sounds good to me." Myra said and rested her back against John's side as she picked up her kindle again.

After a little bit Ray moved from the front seat and came to sit down next to Myra. Myra scooted over a little to make room for him on the couch and put her feet back on the floor rather than on the seat.

"You know I was thinking, even though we've had some setbacks, that this road trip has really been a great bonding experience." Ray told them.

Myra and John exchanged a look.

"I think you're an idiot." Rory responded.

"Well look we've dealt with a lot lately and I think this is a very needed chance for us to sit and really talk about how we feel." Ray said.

"Ray, I love you, but I don't think all of us want to talk right now." Myra told him.

"Well, I'm glad you're happy." John said and then quickly added, "No, wait, I mean-"

"Shit." Myra cursed as the bug flew out of the jar and at John.

"I don't give a damn if you're happy and I certainly don't trust you lot in helping me face Neron no matter how many 'go team' pep talks you give." John said all in one breath.

Myra glared at him, "Wow."

Everyone else stared at John rather distrustfully then. Honestly Myra wasn't too shocked at that truth that John said. She knew that John wasn't big on team stuff and he preferred to work alone but she had hoped that he had changed some of his thoughts after spending a lot of time with the Legends. But she guessed not.

"Well, you can't keep me down!" Ray smiled and then the bug flew into him, "Actually, ever since I met you, I sometimes lie awake at night staring into the dark thinking I am it, and it is me."

Ray paused and everyone looked confused as he moved to a different seat, freeing up the space beside Myra again.

"Also, I don't think Han shot first." Ray said and then said some other things but Myra ignored him.

Myra sighed, "Well, I did say this wasn't a good idea."

John shot her a look, "I can't believe I'm stuck here with you."

"Aww and here I thought we were making progress." Myra said, sarcastically.

"You're the one sleeping with Charlie." John snapped back at her.

Everyone in the van fell silent at that and stared at her. Myra had almost forgotten that their relationship was a complete secret and that the Legends didn't know.

Myra's mouth fell open, "It's none of your business." She turned to look at everyone, "Actually it's not any of your businesses."

Everyone else turned away from her and John's conversation.

"Why do you care who I'm sleeping with anyway, John?" Myra asked, crossing her arms over her chest as she scooted slightly away from him.

"I don't." John said and then his eyes widened so Myra immediately knew he was lying.

The bug flew out of Ray and towards John.

"Actually I hate that you're sleeping with her." John said.

Myra's eyes widened and she smirked, "So, we are making progress."

John glared at her.

"Well, I don't care what you think about me and Charlie." Myra said.

"Fine." John responded.

"Fine." Myra agreed, "I hate you."

Myra gasped as the bug flew at her mouth and she cursed, "Actually, I don't hate you that much and I definitely think you're attractive."

Myra clapped her hand over her mouth as John smirked at her.

"I knew it." John responded.

Myra hissed, "I have a girlfriend, okay."

"Yeah, I'm aware." John answered.

Myra and John fell silent and Myra watched as Mona moved over to the front where Sara was sitting. Sara said something and the bug flew out of Myra and into Sara who started yelling at Mona.

"Captain." Myra said looking concerned at Sara. She didn't like seeing Sara upset as she was usually the calm and collected one and it was not helping team morale to have their Captain this stressed out.

Mona looked hurt as she rushed outside and grabbed the bike but by the time Sara and Myra rushed out after her, she was too far away.
