09| CHARLIE AND CAMP

[ Chapter Nine ]

❝Is it wrong that I'm attracted to her?❞

[Wet Hot American Bummer]

Myra still hadn't gotten used to the fact that there was an Amaya lookalike on the ship. She had tried to opt out of babysitting Charlie, but Sara was insistent upon it, so today, Myra and Zari were on babysitting duty.

Myra was cradling a cup of coffee, as she sat perched on a stool, next to Zari, only Zari was staring at the computer, and Myra was staring at Charlie.

"I can't believe we're stuck on babysitting duty." Myra complained, twirling around on her swivel chair, to face Zari.

Zari gave her a look, "Where else do you have to be?"

Myra glared at her friend and grumbled, "Literally anywhere but here."

"Oy. Would you two shut it?" Charlie's voice came from inside her cage.

Myra rolled her eyes in response, "When's Sara coming back?"

As if in response to Myra's question, Sara and Ava suddenly came into the lab. Both Zari and Myra turned around on their stools to face them.

"Amaya!" Ava exclaimed, upon seeing Charlie.

Zari sighed, "It just looks like her."

"Um. Did you say 'it'?" Ava asked in surprise.

"She's a shapeshifter." Sara responded, "We found her in London, 1977."

Myra took a sip of her coffee, hoping that Ava wouldn't freak out because none of them had reported this to the Time Bureau.

Instead, Ava tried to talk to Charlie, "Hello."

Charlie just glared at her in response and Ava sighed, "Not much of a talker, I see."

Myra and Zari exchanged a look and said at the same time, "Oh, she talks."

Charlie suddenly kicked the barrier, "Go to hell!"

"Just her way of saying, hello." Zari teased.

"Oh let me out of here you bastards!" Charlie screamed and Ava rubbed her ears in annoyance.

"She's still adjusting to her new home." Zari explained.

"And I'm still adjusting to having her in our home." Myra added.

Charlie kicked her food which clattered out of the cage and onto the floor.

"Maybe it's the food." Zari shared a smirk with Myra.

"But Constantine sent the other fugitives you encountered to hell, so..." Ava asked.

"Well, she's not exactly a bloodthirsty unicorn." Zari said.

"Or an evil fairy godmother." Sara added.

"But you decided to keep the shapeshifter because..." Ava prompted.

The three Legends looked at each other, not knowing what to say. Of course, they kept her because she was wearing their friend's face and it would have killed them to send Amaya to hell. But they didn't know if they could tell the Head of the Time Bureau that. Even if she was their friend.

"Oh." Ava suddenly said and Myra's eyes widened but Ava continued, "To exploit her for information about the inter-dimensional prison that she's been trapped in to help us track down the other fugitives."

Sara nodded, "That is exactly what we are doing. 100%." She looked at Myra, "Isn't that right, Myra? Zari?"

Myra looked confused but Zari answered for her, "Yeah yeah. Um, I'm gathering the intel as we speak."

Ava looked at Myra for confirmation and Myra just nodded in response, before taking a sip of coffee.

"I love the initiative, team." Ava nodded approvingly.

"So, why are you two back?" Myra asked, desperate to change the subject.

"There's been a fugitive alert." Sara said in response, "At a summer camp in the 90s, in Maine."

Myra nodded, trying to look impressed but she was not in the mood, "Fun."

Sara gave her an eyebrow raise, "I'm guessing you don't want to come."

Myra cleared her throat, "No, no. I can totally come. As long as I don't have to pair up with John."

Ava exchanged a look with Sara and Sara shook her head, "You know what? You can stay here. We'll need your help from here anyway."

Myra nodded, "Sounds like a plan."

Ava and Sara nodded at them as they left and Myra sighed with relief.

"You still don't like John, huh?" Zari smirked at her.

Myra glared at her, "I'm too tired to deal with him, today." She looked at Charlie, "Besides, I really don't think you want to deal with her on your own."

"You got that right." Zari said in response.

Myra and Zari had both decided to stop watching Charlie, after a couple of hours had passed since Sara and the others had headed to Camp Ogawa.

Myra was in the library, reading on her kindle, and considering going to graduate school, when suddenly Zari ran in to get her.

"Charlie's knocked herself out." Zari said and Myra was on her feet in an instant.

"Crap." Myra cursed, as she followed her friend into the lab, where Charlie was lying on the floor of the cage.

"Damn it. Not on our watch." Zari uttered as she went to grab the tablet. She quickly pressed the button to let down the barrier, before stepping inside.

Myra stepped back, as Zari reached down and felt Charlie's arms. However, just as she did so, Charlie leapt up and kicked Zari in the stomach, doubling her over.

"Let go of her!" Myra yelled at Charlie and ran at her, but Charlie quickly knocked her to the ground as well.

As Myra and Zari, both struggled to get up, Charlie grabbed the tablet and put the barrier up again, trapping both women inside.

Myra crossed her arms and glared at the shapeshifter, "Let us out, now!"

Zari sighed, "Okay, I feel like we got off on the wrong foot. It's just that you're wearing our friend's face, and it's a little unsettling," Zari waved her hand around at Charlie's figure, "given your general demeanor. Look, I didn't love it here at first, but I found my place. You can too."

"I started my time on this ship, trying to murder half of them, because they wouldn't let me go back in time to save my sister, but look at me now." Myra added.

"Take a look in the mirror, sweethearts." Charlie smirked at the two, "It's not my face that should be unsettling." She glared at them and tsked, "You're the one putting people in cages."

Charlie set down the tablet, on one of the tables before running out the door.

Myra sighed, and then bit her lip, "Is it wrong that I'm attracted to her?"

Zari gave her a glare, "She's a fugitive, Myr."

Myra rolled her eyes, "And she put us in a cage. Yep, definitely wrong."

Luckily for them, they didn't have to spend too long in the cage, as Mick let them lose and then captured Charlie again and decided to keep watch.

Myra and Zari decided to contact Sara and the others to see how the mission was going.

"Any clue what you're dealing with yet?" Myra asked over coms, "I'd really like to get started on research, if needed."

"Yeah, actually." John's voice came over the comn.

Myra hissed at Zari, "You talk to him."

"You're the one who wanted to do research, Myr." Zari gave her a look.

"Fine." Myra glared at her friend and pressed the comn again, "Okay, what do you got?"

"We have a shtriga on the loose." John said.

"A vampiric witch? Lovely." Myra responded, "Alright, I'll get started on it, unless, you already know who it is and how to handle it? Also, have you found the missing kids, yet?"

"We're working on that, love. But, if our lovely new friend, the shapeshifter, who thanks to you, is on the ship, has any ideas." John responded.

"Hey." Myra scolded, "It wasn't just my fault and believe me, I don't like having her here anymore than you."

"I mean, that's not exactly true." Zari spoke up, smirking at Myra.

"Shut up, Z." Myra hissed, "We'll get right on that. Good luck."

As soon as Myra stopped speaking, she turned to Zari, "Well, I guess we have to interrogate our prisoner, even though she probably won't give us anything."

"She will." Zari said and started off towards, the lab, Myra closely behind.

They ran into Mick in the hallway and Myra gave him a confused look, "Aren't you guarding Charlie?"

"She's in a cell." Mick responded.

Myra rolled her eyes as they walked into the lab.

"Alright, our team's dealing with something called a shtriga. Do you know anything that could help them fight it?" Zari asked, as she approached where Charlie was sitting.

"Oh, a shtriga." Charlie said, "Very intelligent and very deadly." She smirked at Zari and Myra.

"I told you." Myra looked at Zari.

"If you want my help, it's going to cost you." Charlie said as she stood up and approached the edge of her cage.

"Great. Will that come in the form of another haiku or can we expect something more detailed?" Zari asked, sarcastically.

Charlie looked over at Mick who was drinking a beer, before quickly looking back at the two women.

"What's that?" Zari asked, "What's that eye thing?"

"According to legend, shtriga's are nasty old women, but the one that I met in prison, the one that you're looking for is beautiful." Charlie said and leaned down before whispering, "And he's a bloke."

"Hmm." Mick grunted before opening the barrier of the cage.

"What the hell are you doing?" Both Zari and Myra asked at the same time.

Zari stepped in front of her, "Hey, you don't have another bathroom break for, oh, that's right, never, since you tried to break my face."

Myra stepped up beside Zari, "And don't forget about hitting me."

"It is now or never." Mick broke in.

Charlie smirked at them before grabbing Mick's beer and walking to the door. She stopped in the doorway to blow a kiss at the two women and wink at Myra, before leaving.

"Okay, yeah, I'm definitely attracted to her." Myra admitted.

"Really, Myr?" Zari rolled her eyes, and pressed her comn, "Guys, this shtriga thing is not an old woman."

Myra pressed hers to add, "You are looking for a young, handsome, dude."

Myra then looked at the two others, "Well, since we failed at our job of keeping the shapeshifter, I'm going to go get a drink before we inevitably get yelled at by Sara."

Later, Myra, Zari, and Mick were all sitting in the parlour, when Sara and the others came back from the mission.

"I couldn't help but notice that our magical friend is not where she's supposed to be." Sara said, looking at the three.

"Oh she's not?" Myra feigned confusion as she took a sip of her beer.

"Rory, do you know anything about that?" Zari asked him.

"You don't pay me enough to be a stinking prison guard." Mick responded.

"I don't pay you anything." Sara rolled her eyes.

"Well, I let the fake Amaya go." Mick added.

"Why would you do that?" Ava asked, shocked.

"Oh to-" Zari started and then stared at the door, "Have an extreme makeover."

Myra turned to look as Charlie strolled into the parlor dressed in a completely different outfit, that looked ridiculously good on her. Myra bit her lip to stop herself from saying anything.

"Thanks for the shtriga tip." Sara said, appreciatively.

"Well, if you had your hands full with a shtriga, I figured you'd need my help for whatever you plebs faced next." Charlie answered, looking around the room.

"Sounds like a mutually beneficial partnership." Ava agreed.

"One condition though." Charlie stepped forward towards Sara, "I never set foot in that cage, ever again."

They all reluctantly agreed.

"Wait. Where's Ray and John?" Myra asked, noticing that they weren't present.

"They're both in the med bay." Sara responded, looking at Myra.

Myra furrowed her brows, "Are they okay?"

"Ray's fine but John used powerful magic to save a camper and he's not doing great." Sara responded.

Myra bit her lip and stood up, "I'm going to go check on him, if that's alright?"

Sara nodded, but looked confused, as Myra hurried out of the parlor, ignoring the strange looks from her teammates.

Even though, Myra and John didn't exactly see eye-to-eye, she didn't want him to die or for the last conversation they'd have to have been a rude one.

When Myra entered the med bay, she saw John lying down and Ray hovering around him. Myra crossed her arms before heading over to them, "Hey. How is he?"

"Not good. He's rejecting most of Gideon's treatments." Ray responded.

"How'd he get like this?" Myra asked, concerned.

"He used powerful magic to save a camper's life." Ray responded, "It was pretty selfless."

Myra laughed, and moved next to John before saying, "Hm, maybe you are a good guy, after all."

John rolled his eyes at her, "I'm definitely not that."

"You saved a kid's life, by risking yours." Myra said, "John, you may not always do good things, but I think you're a lot better then you give yourself credit for."

"Don't go liking me now." John teased.

Myra rolled her eyes, "Wouldn't dream of it."

Myra turned around but then paused and looked back at John, "Just don't die on us, John."

John gave her a small smile, "I'll try not to, love."
