A/N: school dance type thing

~

Eliza danced with both of her sisters to the rhythm of the music, laughing at how silly Peggy was. Then she noticed the front doors open, and saw the most beautiful girl she'd ever laid her eyes on.

The girl had on a poofy red dress, red lipstick, a bit of winged eyeliner, and a tiny bit of eye-shadow. The top of her dress outlined her curves, and boy did it make Eliza blush. The girl also had brown, curly hair, kinda like Peggy's, except it was in her face and it fell just past her shoulders.

Eliza excused herself from her sisters, walking a short distance to the girl. She smiled at the stranger when she approached her, butterflies fluttering in her stomach when she received a grin back. The two girls talked for two minutes, maybe three, and Eliza noticed how much they had in common.

"You know, you strike me as a woman who has never been satisfied," the girl said, looking up in thought for a second but then looking right back at Eliza. Eliza shot her a look of confusion. "I'm sure I don't know what you mean, you forget yourself." She giggled a bit. "You're like me, I'm never satisfied."

Eliza cocked her head to the left slightly. "Is that right?" The girl smiled widely. "I have never been satisfied," she suddenly took Eliza's hand and kissed it gently, making her blush madly. "My name is Elizabeth Schuyler..." she mumbled. "I know. My name is Maria Lewis." The girl replied, placing her hands on her hips and smiling proudly. Eliza giggled.

"Where's your family from?" Maria seemed to get nervous, because she started to fidget a bit. "Unimportant," she said, then struck up another conversation.

After a few more minutes of laughing and chatting, Eliza returned to Angelica and Peggy. She was about to tell them about how she thought she might be in love, then noticed the hearts in Angelica's eyes as she stared at Maria. Angelica grabbed Eliza's arm softly and whispered, "Yo, this one's mine."

Eliza sighed inwardly and felt a rush of sadness. But she nodded and smiled anyway, making her way over to Maria. The girl smiled when she saw Eliza again, but Eliza just grabbed her by the arm and dragged her.

"Where are you taking me?"

"I'm about to change your life,"

"Then by all means lead the way." Maria winked, which Eliza blushed at though she didn't want to. Eliza led her back to Angelica, who was practically bursting with excitement. "Angelica Schuyler, it's a pleasure to meet you!"

"Schuyler?" Maria cocked a brow. "My sister," Eliza replied, a bit forceful with a happy tone. Maria talked to Angelica for a bit with Eliza chiding in softly sometimes, but then noticed Maria kiss her sister's hand. She sighed when she saw Angelica's face. "I'll leave you to it!"

Eliza walked away and sat at an empty table, far away from the girls. A slow song started playing, and everyone started slowly waltzing to it. Eliza sighed again, starting to fantasize about her with Maria. Maybe, they'd be dancing to this song, had she not introduced her to Angelica.

For a moment, Eliza wanted to make Maria hers. But then she realized, that was selfish, and she wanted nothing other than her sister to be happy. Eliza could tell that Angelica felt love for that girl as soon as she saw her. And she knew that if she said, "I love Maria," Angelica would be silently resigned, and Maria would be hers. She would say, "I'm fine." She'd be lying.

So Eliza took to just fantasizing about what could have been. She didn't want to interfere with the love the two felt for each other. She watched them kiss, she'd listen to both of their rants and vents about each other, she'd heard them fight, but in the end, Eliza knew Angelica and Maria were meant to be.

And Eliza just stood in the sidelines, watching the love of her life date her sister. She would always tell herself, it's for Angelica, I just want my sister happy. From that day forward, Eliza could find no one else who she really loved, not even Alexander Hamilton, or the girl she once dated, Theodosia.

It was all for her sister, Eliza died alone. She had no one to love, no one to call hers, and she was fine with it. The two people she loved the most were stable and happy.
