A/N: the inevitable storm chapter™

~

Thunder boomed and lightning struck. Rain mercilessly pounded the ground, roofs, windows, doors, etc. Alexander laid in his bed, terrified, under the blankets. He was sobbing and shaking violently.

It was petrifying for Alexander. Storms had always scared him half to death ever since the hurricane he endured at 17. And without his boyfriend, John Laurens, there to help him, Alexander wasn't sure he could survive through the night.

Alexander shut his eyes tightly, wanting badly for everything to just stop and disappear. Why did John choose that night to drive to South Carolina? It was already bad for Alexander because of the memories flooding his brain, but he was also worrying senselessly about John.

John could've been far from the storm, considering he had left about 3 hours before it started. But what if it was a storm that was traveling? It could've either hit John on the way to New York, or it could be on it's way towards him! (Idk how weather works tbh I'm sorry)

Suddenly, his phone started ringing.

Alexander jumped slightly and shakily rose from under the blanket, trying to make sense of the caller ID through his blurry vision. Quickly, he figured it was John and a bit of hope filled his senses. Alexander picked up his phone and accepted the call.

"Alex, Lafayette called me and told about the storm, are you okay?" John immediately started as Alexander put the phone to his ear. "N-no..." Alexander sniffled and wiped his face, "But aren't y-you driving?" More thunder boomed and there was another crack of lightning, causing Alexander to jump again and shut his eyes tightly.

"No, I'm at a hotel," John said quickly. Alexander sat for a moment and thought, somehow able to tune out the rain.

"Alex?" came John's voice. Alexander shook his head slightly, breaking his random train of thought. "Yes?" Again, he wiped at his eyes, more tears falling as the rain started becoming harder and louder.

"John, I need to see your face!" Alexander gasped out, slapping a hand against his mouth to hide a sob.

"Alright, okay, we can FaceTime," John said, Alexander nodded weakly, not caring that he couldn't be seen. "I'll be right back!" With that, John hung up, and a few short moments later, Alexander's phone rang again, this time being the FaceTime thing idk what to call it tbh.

Alexander had set up his phone against the wall his bed was against, and John appeared to be holding his. He finally got the chance to see himself, almost recoiling into the blankets when he saw the mess of himself.

Alexander's hair was down, and it was all over the place. His eyes were red and puffy from his crying, and there were dark circles from the little to no sleep he received. Alexander looked very distraught, to say the least. But he was able to smile softly once he saw John.

John's hair was tied up messily and his eyelids drooped. He had no shirt on. His chest was exposed to the camera. Alexander often laughed about the freckles that littered his chest and every other part of his body.

But soon the staring ended, because the rain started picking up again, this time with hail beating on the roof. The sound of thunder filled Alexander's ears, and it lingered for a few moments. Then another strike of lightning. Alexander whined softly and hide his blankets, more tears falling from his eyes.

"Hey, Alex, it's okay..." John had tried, but Alexander was barely able to hear him. His mind was racing with memories. John tried to speak to him again, "Baby girl?"

Alexander slowly moved from underneath the covers to look at his boyfriend. The boy smiled softly, making his eyes appear smaller as they were already half-lidded.

"It'll be okay, Alexander. I wish I was there..." John kept saying comforting words to Alexander as the thunder continued to roll and the lightning stroke. But soon, the words stopped working, and Alexander was a mess again. John had no idea what to do.

"J-John?" Alexander timidly moved the blanket from over his face as he reached over to his nightstand, grabbing his earbuds. "Yes, baby girl?" John replied softly. He was still holding his phone up, but it kept shaking from him slipping into seconds of sleep.

"I'm s-sorry..." Alexander whispered, barely audible, and buried his face in his hands. "No, no, Alex it's okay! What are you sorry for?" John had waved his hand to the side dismissively, as if he was swatting something. (A/N: not anymore flesh out the door s w a t,,, okay I'll go now)

"For k-keeping you up like this... I know y-you're tired." Alexander mumbled. John shook his head, his curls bouncing softly in the process. "It's okay, Alex. I'd stay up all night for you..." he yawned at the end of his sentence, covering it with his hand. There were a few moments of silence, which were agonizing for Alexander, because he was shaking so bad and the rain was so loud.

"John, c-can you sing f-for me?" Alexander asked finally, which John smiled sweetly at. "Of course I can, baby girl." Alexander grinned and told him to wait a minute as he plugged his earbuds in. He laid his phone down and then rested his head on his pillow, then smiled softly.

"Okay, go."

John started to sing in a soft voice;

"Merrily we fall out of line, out of line, I'd fall anywhere with you I'm by your side, swinging in the rain humming melodies, we're not going anywhere until we freeze."

Alexander closed his eyes, tuning everything else out. The rain, his thoughts, everything that wasn't John's voice.

"Forever is a long time, but I wouldn't mind spending it by your side, tell me everyday I get to wake up to that smile." John sang a bit louder, but still soft enough for Alexander to fall asleep to.

"I wouldn't mind it at all, I wouldn't mind it at all..." John ended the song. Alexander felt a small tear go down his cheek, but not from sadness; Alexander felt emotional because of his love for John.

"I love you, John..." Alexander sighed lovingly. John chuckled softly. "I love you too, baby girl." Alexander sniffled a bit. "Another song, please?" John smiled and laid his phone down on his chest.

"If you're a lover, you should know, the lonely moments just get lonelier the longer you're in love..."
