Part Seven: The Appointment

January 8th, 2018

Sunday was upon me, and my mother was driving me to my first appointment with my gender reassignment doctor. My entire family couldn't be bothered to come, although they wanted to. They were all just too busy. I was nervous and jittery and exited. I kept tapping my foot on the floorboard of the car, and my fingers on the dashboard. When I got to the actual doctor's office, I started pacing the floor. Finally, my mom asked me to stop, because it may have been making other people nervous.

It wasn't like I was going under the knife that day. The plan was to simply give me a checkup and make sure I was not allergic to any surgical/chemical products. They had to actually give me small samples of each chemical and surgical tool.

The first test was latex. Then, every single kind of anesthetic medicine. The list went on and on. It was simultaneously the most boring and the most exiting thing I had ever done. It was boring because I literally just sat there as a couple nurses and the doctor pokes and prodded me for hours. Exiting, because I was a step closer to actually getting my bottom surgery. I told them that I had been on testosterone for around a year and a half, so the doctor knew how my hormones were functioning at that time.

The doctor asked me about how I wanted to transition,  how long I knew I was transgender, et cetera. After around six hours of that, they made sure no allergic reactions had developed, then said I was free to go. I left, as nervous as I had came.

As soon as I turned seventeen, we would schedule a surgery, and that would be that.

On the car ride home, my mother started talking to me. "So," she said, "what do you think?"

     I breathed in. "I can't wait," I responded.

My mother smiled at me, and squeezed my hand.

I had great parents, and I still do. They were supportive and accepting and loving and kind. They wanted nothing for me but happiness. I was so lucky to have my family.

As the sky grew dark, I drifted off to sleep to the sounds of the radio. Even as I slept, a smile remained on my face.
