Sweet Illinois (narrative poetry)
May, 2022
There's no place like here,
The place with Marshall Field's,
A yearly fair at Navy Pier,
Honor to President Lincoln we yield,
And there's Chicago where the Cubs play,
With wild violets so sweet,
Business men and women off to work each day,
And chili dogs being sold, which we all love to eat,
In 1871, the Great Chicago Fire,
Wooden buildings the fire did destroy,
Though it's over, the danger was dire,
That's where I'm going, yes, sweet Illinois.
