Isolophobia (free-verse poetry)

November 5, 2024

Alone,
Darkness,
Falling down,
Down,
Down,
No one is there to catch you
Falling down,
Forever,
And ever,
And ever,
If you fall,
And no one hears,
Did you even make a sound?
You try to a scream,
But no noise comes out,
Clutching your throat,
Hoping someone sees your agony,
Your fear as you sit alone,
Chained in the dark,
Separated from society,
Forever,
And ever,
And ever,
Doomed to be the victim of the darkness,
Succumbing to the mind-numbing feeling,
That comes when no one cares about you,
Your voice echoing in the otherwise still air around you,
Where no one's been since the day you first felt the loneliness,
You try to cry,
But the only ears that hear your plea are your own,
You wrap yourself in shadows,
Trying to preserve the only sanity you have left,
It's of no avail,
You awake to the same barren, desolate emptiness,
Taunting you though you can't see it in the dark surrounding you,
Mocking you,
Laughing in your face,
Swirling in your head,
The only company you have in this world you've created,
Maybe you welcome the change,
Maybe that voice in your head is a source of comfort
When you have no one else,
Maybe it's a demon in you,
It haunts you,
Taunts you,
Burns the reality you know,
Caging you into this little prison you made in your head
That was supposed to be a safe haven for you,
But the little demon,
Your conscience,
Turned it into some sort of hell
Where you die when you wake up every day, alone,
Always alone,
Your only weakness,
You say,
If only it was your only,
Just don't let your demon know,
That your weakness is everything,
Everything forces you to come to your heaven-turned-hell,
As you fall down,
Down,
Down,
Down into your eternal torture in the shadows,
Alone.
