Chapter 7

Chapter 7

"Rhoda did you remember her medicine?" Mrs. Asamoah asked on remembering.

Rhoda nodded from the front seat, "Yes mom, that's why we delayed. Apparently she doesn't like to take drugs"

She felt Mrs. Asamoah gaze on her, "I couldn't tell. But dear I hope you know it is for your good. You need to take them if you want to feel better soon"
That was something she equally wanted. Since she'd noticed that when she delayed taking her drugs, those pounding headaches returned.

She nodded, "I will"

"I also don't like medicine" Doreen whispered loudly.

"Yes baby, mummy knows that. That's why I make you eat your veggies" Rhoda turned around in her seat.

A silly grin appeared on Doreen's face.

The drive lasted for about ten minutes and soon they parked in front of a grey building. People were entering whilst others stood outside conversing.

"Have you ever been in a church before?" Mrs. Asamoah asked once they got down as Daniel drove the car to the back of the church to park it.

"I'd like to think so" she said before actually realizing what she said. She did really hope she had been there before as she felt at home. There was a peace lurking in her heart and she just knew she was home.

A man dressed in white long sleeved shirt tucked into black trousers and a purple tie to match approached them with a smile.
"Good morning Mrs. Asamoah and family. It's good to see you all"

"Hello Pastor Aaron" Doreen waved.

Pastor Aaron smiled, "Hello Doreen, how are you doing?"

"I'm fine, thank you"

"My, she's a lady"

"Good morning Pastor Aaron. Its good to see you too" Mrs. Asamoah finally spoke.

Pastor Aaron turned his attention to her, "I see you came with someone"

He stretched his hand for a shake, "Hi I'm Pastor Aaron and you are?"

She slowly took the offered hand and opened her mouth to speak but Doreen beat her to it.

"Her name is Sophia"

"Nice to meet you Sophia"
Rhoda cut in, "Doreen you are going to be late for class. Hurry on" she waited till Doreen was out of hearing before continuing. "Actually her name is not Sophia and we don't know her real name"

He looked from her to Rhoda "Oh really, how?"

"It's a long story but to cut it short. She's lost her memory"
He looked apologetic, "I'm sorry about that"

"It's okay, you can call me Sophia" she shrugged, eyes moving downwards noticing he was still holding her hand. He on noticing it too quickly released her hand.

Rhoda and Mrs. Asamoah looked at her, "Are you sure about that?" Mrs. Asamoah asked finally.
She shrugged again, "Doreen chose it. And I kind of like it though. Now you won't have any problem calling me"

Pastor Aaron spoke up, "Sophia it is then. I hope you enjoy today's service"

Daniel walked back to the front of the building, just as service was about starting. He entered scanning the already full chapel, looking for his family. Being a small town church everyone knew everyone. He waved to a few people before locating them in the third row from the first seat.

He sat down beside Rhoda just as service started as the choir started with a song.

Lord we need Your grace and mercy
We need to pray like never before
We need the power of Your Holy Spirit
To open heaven's door

Daniel stood up, raising his hands to worship. Letting the words flow from deep within his heart. The peace he felt was intense bringing him down to his knees as he continued to sing. His voice wasn't that perfect but in that moment it didn't matter. He was in front of his Father. In His presence and it didn't really matter what he had previously thought of the voice that he now sang aloud with onto his Maker.

Spirit, touch Your church
Stir the hearts of men
Revive us, Lord
With Your passion once again
I want to care for others
Like Jesus cares for me
Let Your rain fall upon me
Let Your rain fall upon me

As he sang the chorus he found himself singing with an unfound honesty.

Lord, we humbly come before You
We don't deserve of You what we ask
But we yearn to see Your glory
Restore this dying land.

With the second verse, he broke down completely likening his heart to the dying land. It wasn't just a likeness of it. His heart was actually was a dying land. It only took him this long to finally admit it. The pain and bitterness he harboured he finally admitted it. He finally admitted he wasn't okay.

Spirit, touch Your church
Stir the hearts of men
Revive us, Lord
With Your passion once again
I want to care for others
Like Jesus cares for me
Let Your rain fall upon me
Let Your rain fall upon me
Let Your rain fall upon me
Let Your rain fall upon me.

Daniel never could imagine the last time he actually came before His presence baring everything in his heart. And he wasn't going to trade that feeling for anything. It always made his Sundays, being able to bare all to His creator, without fear of judgement.

After worship, Pastor Aaron walked unto the pulpit.
"When was the last time you actually sat down to have a proper communion with The King? When was the last time we sat down to actually worship our Lord with our whole heart"
The chapel was silent, dead silence filled it but minds were alive as they were all tuned to listen to Pastor Aaron.

"The message for today is titled Worship" He pulled his Bible open. "Let's turn our Bibles to Philippians 3:3"

Daniel opened his Bible.

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

"Can we say we worship God with our whole hearts and most importantly in spirit today? Or have we joined the crowd just because we feel we ought to do what everyone is doing? Oh if I don't do what these people are doing I'll feel odd. Oh I have to act the way they are acting or they won't accept me as part of them. They usually raise their hands like this; when I do same, they'll see me or they'll finally take notice of this invisible person. We are the circumcision and must worship God in spirit not in the flesh"

Silence reigned in the church as he paused.

"That's wrong thinking people. It is wrong worshipping. Now you may ask, what is wrong with the way I worship?"

"There is nothing wrong with your worship but not if you are worshipping the wrong way. If we assess ourselves in how we worship we would know we make a lot of mistakes and what we think is worship is actually not"

Daniel could feel the words pricking his heart. He hadn't been prepared for such a talk and he could already start listing the faults about what he had considered worship. Today wasn't his day but the more he thought about it, he believed it was, today was a day he had received an eye opening on matters he had previously overlooked.

Today he actually felt his shepherd doing his job, even though his words were really strong and harsh today, it actually did its job. A whole big job it was.

Pastor Aaron went on to teach about the right way to worship and the reason why man worships God.

The whole church was attentive to the teaching and at the end of the service, Daniel felt enlightened like he had never been before and it was such an experience that he wouldn't forget.
