Baby, You're a Firework
*phone ringing*
"Hello?"
(Hello ma'am. Sir has requested you immediately come to his office right away.)
Ragini gasped. "What? Did something happen?"
(I'm not informed ma'am. Please hurry though.)
At once, Ragini rushed to her and Laksh's room to get changed. She didn't waste any time putting on makeup as all sorts of bad thoughts popped up in her mind.
Later...
Ragini got out of the car and hurried inside the office. Reaching Laksh's cabin, she burst open the door in panic. "Laksh!"
However, him calmly sitting at his desk, looking at the files wasn't something she was expecting.
"Ah! Right on time. I'm almost done." he closed the file and pulled out a paper bag. "I've got the yummiest burgers in town!"
Ragini let out a frustrated sigh. "Laksh! What is this? I really thought something bad happened."
"Oh no, no! I just wanted us to have these together. Let's have them while we're on the way before they go stale."
Ragini blinked and cocked her head to the side. "But Maa has lunch prepared back home."
"Nope. I'm taking you out today. I'll call and inform Maa that we'll have dinner outside as well."
"But I'm not well dressed."
Laksh snorted. "You can even make a sack look like a royal gown with your beauty. Besides, that dress is quite okay to me. And no make up makes you look more beautiful."
Ragini giggled. "People usually go out to date and then marry. You're doing the opposite."
"Well, I won't be a unique Romeo if I do everything like other boys." he replied with a wink.
Ragini chuckled. "No one can win against you in verbal battles, can they?"
"You can always kiss me to shut me up." seeing Ragini pout and leave, he quickly picked up the bag and followed her. "Hey, wait up! Giniiiii!"
#5 pm#
They spent their evening in a long drive talking about different mundane things. After all, only each others' presence mattered.
Laksh stopped the car and got out to open the door for her.
Ragini looked around. "Wow! An amusement park. It's been a long time since I came to one."
Laksh grinned. "Then I'm glad I chose this place for us. Let's go! First, to the balloon and dart games. I'll buy you a bunny plushie."
Ragini's own smile widened seeing Laksh's excitement and let him pull her along.
#At Balloon and Dart Stall#
Ragini didn't know whether to feel sad for Laksh or laugh out. It had been 20 minutes since Laksh kept trying to burst a balloon.
The shopkeeper sighed. "Sir, with the amount of money you spent buying the chances, I think I'll give you a plushie for free." he felt bad for the guy for getting embarrassed in front of his own girl.
"No! I almost got it!"
20 minutes later...
Laksh pouted as he handed Ragini the blue bunny plushie.
"Awww...its so cute. Thanks Laksh."
Laksh's pout only deepened. "But I wanted to win it for you. Not get it as the shopkeeper's pity for me!"
"Hahaha...!" Ragini kissed him on the cheek. "It's okay. Your efforts is what matters."
Ragini moved away and picked up a dart. She threw it and it made a perfect hit, shocking both Laksh and the shopkeeper.
"The pink one please!"
"You're good Miss." the man commented and passed her the plushie. He also handed her a chocolate. "That's for impressing me kid."
"Don't I get one?" Laksh frowned.
The shopkeeper simply went back to attending to other customers, making Ragini chuckle.
She placed the pink bunny plushie in Laksh's hands. "That pink one is a girl, and this blue one must be a boy. Now, we got a couple pair!"
Laksh's sour mood brightened at her words. "I guess we do." he grabbed her hand and looked around. "Where shall we go next?"
After enjoying different rides...
"Now this is the one! You can't say you've enjoyed an amusement park until you have enjoyed this ride!" Laksh grinned from ear to ear staring at the roller coaster before him. "Ready Ragini?"
Ragini didn't speak, but nodded slowly.
"Is something wrong?"
She shook her head and gave a shaky smile. "I just don't like fast rides much."
Laksh scoffed. "Waaah! Don't tell me you haven't enjoyed this ride before. You're missing out Ragini! Aish! I can't let my wife not experience this!"
"It's okay Laksh. You go. I'll just wait here for you."
"What, no! We're enjoying this ride together. After all, it can't be worse than the hurdles that we went through to finally be together."
"It's not funny Laksh."
Laksh chuckled. "Sorry, sorry." he brought her hand to his lips and kissed it. "Do you trust me?"
"More than myself."
"Then I promise I won't let this hand go until we end the ride. Nothing's going to happen to you while I'm around, alright?"
Ragini looked reluctant, but nodded. She knew she would be safe.
Later...
"That. Was. Amazing!" Ragini giggled to herself. "Wow! I can still feel my knees shaking. But it was worth it!"
Laksh was happy that Ragini enjoyed her first roller coaster ride. However, he shook his hand which was squished like a pancake by Ragini during the entire ride.
"Um Laksh...I'm hungry." Ragini spoke with her cheeks flushing.
"Oh that! I've got everything ready. We're going for a picnic!"
"But it's 9 pm!"
"And we're going to the mountain top!"
#Mountain top#
Laksh laid out the mat on the ground. He had his car on, providing them with lighting.
Ragini brought the basket that was in his car. "You have packed meals? Guess you had everything planned out, huh?"
Laksh nodded. "It's our first date...proper one. How could I not prepare well?" Laksh went round where she sat and put his hands on her neck. "Surprise!"
Ragininlooked down feeling something cold. She gasped as she saw the shining pendent in the shape of a heart. "It's...its beautiful."
"But not as much as you."
"No. Not as much as this." Ragini replied, pointing to her mangalsutra.
Laksh's smile softened. "Agreed completely."
"Let's eat before this gets cold Laksh. I've opened the packets."
Laksh sat down comfortably beside her and played a song in his phone.
" 🎶 'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y 🎶 "
Laksh hummed and sang along in an offbeat tone. " Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"..."
Ragini laughed out loud. "Laksh stop please. Singing really isn't your thing. You're mak-" she gasped as the sky lit up suddenly.
There, amidst the stars and midnight blue sky, were an array of fireworks bursting one after another, lighting up the sky in its wonderful colors. The sparks shined, shimmered and glittered, just the way Ragini's eyes glittered in awe and wonder.
Laksh placed his chin on his arm and watched the different expressions across her face. "Like them?"
All Ragini could do was look at him with wonder and joy.
He smiled and linked his fingers with hers. "Just like the fireworks, I would always do my best to light up your world with happiness. If needed, I'll become a firework and get destroyed to see you smile!"
Ragini had moist eyes. "Lak-"
"No. You don't need to say anything. After everything you did for me, I know how much you love me even without you voicing it out." he looked at her lovingly. "But I want to say it out loud to the world that I'll always be there for you! No matter what the situation, no matter what troubles await us in the future, I'll stand by you. I would never repeat my foolishness...again."
Ragini's gaze softened. "I have forgiven you long back Laksh. I too was wrong. But we've changed for the better."
"If it wasn't for you, I bet I would be the same irrational, pigheaded guy! So thank you. And it's not just for changing me, but for everything you've done for my family. Yes, you bullied them once. But even then, you made them change. By making yourself the villain, you changed their arrogance. You brought the family closer by being the common person to be hated by them. I realize that now. I can't wait to explain that to them!"
Ragini smiled. "I never told anyone about this. Neither did I plan to. But you figured me out. That's enough for me." she tightened her hold on his hand. "Let it go Laksh. It doesn't matter anymore. All that matters is that we're together now. And that's all I need."
Laksh smiled back. "And you're all I need."
