Be in the Word
So, now that the topic of asking God to reveal His will is covered, it is now time to explore how God reveals His will.
To first understand why one needs to read the word of God, one must first understand what the word of God is. I would submit to you that the word of God isn't authoritative because it has no mistakes, but rather it is authoritative because of its author, almighty God. Understanding God is the key to understanding His word. God is perfect, holy, good, and the ultimate authority. His word is the same.
God's word is just that. The words of God are revealed unto us through scripture. It is necessary to understand that God's word is not just truth, but the very basis for which we can determine truth. It is the most fundamental truth we have. God's word is true, and man is the liar.
By this, I mean that wherever man contradicts scripture know that God's word is true, and the one in the wrong is man.
Now that there is some basic knowledge of what scripture is we can continue. God's word is truth, but if one does not meditate upon it, one will never hear the truth it holds.
Whenever culture decides to silence the truth, the first thing it goes for is the word of God. The Catholic church banned its members from owning their own Bible so that they could remain in power. Multitudes of people were burned, and killed for simply owning a copy of the Bible in English. Know, that scripture holds the key to life. However, without scripture, we have no key. This is why Daniel memorized scripture that he would have it when it was taken away. This is why we need to read it.
God doesn't reveal things in dreams really anymore, and He doesn't give visions. God has given us a way for us to read His will, and that is in the Bible. How can one expect to have God's will revealed to them if they don't even read the already revealed will of God? Often one gets their answer in scripture.
After prayer, God will put upon our hearts a conviction, and often one knows what God's will is. The word of God, however, is most times the confirmation of God's will.
Now it would be foolish to read the Bible expecting God to reveal if He wants you to be a pastor in a verse saying, Thou shalt be a pastor. However, one can read 1 and 2 Timothy and read about the qualifications of a pastor. They can and should pray about it, but often the ministry is an obvious conviction that people have. They know if God desires that for their life, but sadly many people say no to God, and follow their own worldly lusts.
If you want God's will to be revealed in your life, reading the word of God constantly is necessary.
