7| Inter-dimensional Battle.
Radar and Luna found themselves in a Desert Dimension. It was an empty world that awaited colonization. But because few people traveled across universes, it stayed undiscovered.
Blue, green, red, and orange colors swirled in the sky while two suns glowed behind it.
"What is that?" Luna pointed at a warehouse after she stopped puking.
It should not be here. Radar smiled. "Our destination."
There were no roads, but tire tracks covered the ground. Radar knew the breachers were in the warehouse. He felt it in his gut. But what he didn't know was what awaited him there.
Did the three plant traps for him and Luna?
Radar glanced at the duster. She breathed heavily while her body adjusted to the dimension's frequency. She can protect herself if we get trapped.
Even if he wanted to protect Luna, Radar knew he would hold her back. In the short time they had spent together, he realized she was a better warrior and survivor than him.
Radar adjusted his injured arm on the sling. It would take time to heal—time he didn't have. It was the reason he didn't want to confront the breachers in the restaurant. The compact space would have made it hard for him to fight them with one arm.
But the Desert Dimension was the perfect place for a fight. He wouldn't have to worry about casualties.
"Come on," Radar said, then opened a portal.
They entered and appeared at the warehouse's entrance. It looked brand new. The silver steels roof glowed under the sun's rays, and the white walls looked bright. They entered and came across corpses hanging on hooks attached to the ceiling. The corpses didn't have skin, and their guts hung out of their bodies like ropes.
Radar felt uncomfortable at what he saw. Not only did the corpses not have skin, but their necks, ankles, and wrists had been slit. A large metal bucket full of red liquid stood below each corpse. They bring the slaves here to butcher them. But what are they doing with their skin and blood?
"You're finally here. I got tired of waiting," someone said from behind them. Radar and Luna turned and saw Kruger. There was no sign of Los or Octavia. "You must be Radar," he said, and then turned to Luna. "I haven't seen a duster in so long. Where have you and your kind been hiding?"
Luna didn't respond.
Kruger spread his arms and closed his eyes. "Come on, manipulate my feelings."
Luna stood still.
Radar didn't know if she was trying to manipulate Kruger's feelings or not. But she was glaring at Kruger with clenched hands.
Kruger opened his eyes. "You can't manipulate my feelings, duster. I used to hunt your kind. Your kind taught me different ways to avoid your abilities. You can smell them on me, can't you? That's why you're angry. You know I used to hunt them." He grinned. "But freedom is not my forte."
He is stalling us. But why? Radar thought, then gazed at Luna. "Jasmine and Amina are somewhere in here. Go find them. I will deal with him." He handed her his flintlock.
Luna took it from him. She seemed to be in two minds. Then, after a few seconds, she gripped the flintlock and ran off.
"One on one, huh?" Kruger scoffed. He took a few steps forward. He looked way older up close. Wrinkles covered his face, while crow's feet and dark bags surrounded his eyes. He looked like a corpse. Kruger removed his long coat and cowboy hat and threw them to the ground. "You're a brave man, Radar. Brave, but stupid. With your portal abilities, you could have been rich beyond your wildest dreams. Instead, you found people as a career?" He shook his head and tsked.
"I am not in it for the money," Radar lied. Money was everything to him. If Safari hadn't given him the platinum coins, he wouldn't have taken the job.
"You fooled many people into thinking your kind was extinct. But not me," Kruger said. "I know you're a tracker. The blue portal is evidence. And if people knew the truth about you, it would make my job harder than it is. Until this day, the Massacre of Breachers at the hands of trackers gives us nightmares." He stepped closer, revealing his toned body. "Each tracker had a nickname. They used it to intimidate breachers. What was yours?"
One-Winged Angel. "It does not matter," Radar said.
"You're right." Kruger laughed. "It's a shame what happened, though. Who would've thought a tracker would turn on its kind and lead to their extinction?" He tapped his head. "What was her name again?"
"Shut up."
"Oh yes, Constance. Also known as The Fallen Angel." Kruger smiled.
Radar clenched his hands. "I was not planning on killing anyone during this job, but I am making an exception for you."
"I'm honored, tracker." Kruger bowed. "But I'm not afraid of death. I have clo... no, no, no." He waggled his finger. "I'll let it be a surprise."
Tired of listening to Kruger, Radar charged at the breacher. Though he was at a disadvantage with his one arm, Radar threw the first punch. Kruger dodged with ease, and then he gave a cheeky smile.
"If this is how you fight, then I am going to kill you fast," Kruger said.
Radar thrust his arm sideways, aiming for Kruger's nose. Kruger stepped back, and the arm missed him. He then moved forward and jabbed a heavy fist to Radar's ribs. Radar coughed, the wind taken out of him. But he didn't have long to gather his thoughts. Kruger shoved another fist to Radar's torso and then thrust a knee and a kick to the tracker's face.
Radar fell to the ground. His body ached and his head throbbed. He couldn't collect his thoughts to think of a way to beat Kruger. He grunted when he stood.
"What happened to you, tracker? People feared your kind. Some went as far as worshipping you. But now..." Kruger looked at Radar and spat on the ground. "You're pathetic."
Radar took off his fur coat and started laughing.
"What's funny?"
"It has been a while since someone has looked down on me while knowing what I am," Radar said. He rubbed off the blood running down the corner of his mouth. With one fist raised in front of him, he said, "Come on, breacher, show me what you got."
Kruger snarled, then charged at Radar. He was like a rabid dog, saliva dripping down the side of his mouth. But before he attacked Radar, the tracker opened a portal below Kruger's feet, and the breacher fell in.
Radar then jumped in the portal and appeared in front of Kruger. The breacher stared at his new surroundings with wide eyes.
"Where are we?" Kruger asked.
"Earth Zero," Radar replied.
Earth Zero was a universe populated by dinosaurs and cavemen. Radar had been there twice. The first time was when he was practicing how to open portals. He wasn't performing well compared to the other children. So as punishment, Constance sent him to Earth Zero. He had to open a portal and return to her, or stay there and get eaten by the dinosaurs.
"Is that...?" Kruger pointed at something behind Radar.
Radar turned and saw a T-Rex charging at them. It wasn't one of the largest he had seen, but it was still threatening. Before it could get Radar, he opened a portal and jumped in it.
Kruger wasn't fast enough to escape the T-Rex. It bit off his arm.
Radar appeared in the sky and watched Kruger scream in pain. The tracker landed on the ground, rolled, and stood still. The sling came off, revealing his healed left hand. He flexed it for a bit and then smiled.
The dinosaur finished eating the arm and turned to the breacher. Kruger crawled away from it at a slow pace.
The portals didn't open as fast as Radar wanted. The frequency in Earth Zero messed with his powers. Before the T-Rex chewed off Kruger's head, Radar opened a portal below the breacher. Kruger fell in it.
Radar opened another portal and walked through it. He was back in the warehouse. Kruger was there too, laying on the ground, bleeding to death.
"I win." Radar placed his foot on Kruger's neck.
Kruger coughed, blood dribbling down the corner of his lips. "This is not the end, Radar. See you soon."
"I do not think so." Radar crushed Kruger's throat.
