Chapter 5: The Cross Pack

It was quiet as the three walked, allowing Musa to freely glance around their surroundings.

They were walking through maze-like hallways. Similar to the room that they had just been in, everything seemed to be made out of metal. There were hexagon shaped doors near gold glowing screens, and each one had a gold stripe through it and a circular number.

"Is this...a bunker?" He muttered under his breath.

"So you are smarter than you look." Kit commented, seeming a bit pleased as well as amused by his comment.

"Kit." Y/N scolded her childhood friend, who grinned at her innocently. The female sighed and shook her head, before she answered Musa. "Yes. Our headquarters are underground." She explained.

"The tech is amazing." Musa shakily complimented.

"Save those type of compliments for when you meet Kaminari, he'll be so flustered." Kit laughed.

"I wouldn't want to make him feel uncomfortable." Musa fumbled as he disagreed.

"Huh? But what's the fun of having a cute Omega around if I can't have you mess with the hearts of our cold pack members? You're just as bad as Y/N." Kit declared, puckering his lips as he crossed his arms behind his neck and looked away from the other ravenette.

"B-Beta Kit!" Musa exclaimed as he looked genuinely scared for the other male as he called his leader out on her lower rank.

The two males were then startled when the female began to laugh. "You two are already getting along." The female grinned at the Omega and Beta males.

"This is what you call getting along?" Musa whispered, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion.

"The technology you find here was created by one of our members, as Kit had said, his name is Kaminari. His office is right around the corner." Y/N said, seeming to be changing the topic as they turned another corner and walked up to one of the oddly shaped doors marked with the number 'Twenty'.

The (H/C) placed her hand against the glowing screen, before the door opened like a kaleidoscope and revealed another metallic room. Unlike the other one, however, it had different containers full of plants, and in the middle of the room was the beginning of a tree that was about the height of Y/N. There were many shelves covering the walls and there was a table full of equipment, and a large screen.

Hunched over the table was a silver-blue haired male, tinkering with some oddly shaped device in his hands. Musa had noticed the male tense up when they entered the room, but he didn't take his eyes off of what he was doing.

"Kaminari." Y/N greeted with her calming smile as they approached the male, carrying herself like a proud Alpha would as the male finally lifted his face to lock his icy blue stare on the group. "How's it going?" She questioned, leaning her hip against the table and crossing her arms as she gazed at the device in the male's hand.

"It's going." The male, Kaminari Byers, simply stated with a shrug of his shoulders. "Who's the fresh meat?" Kaminari then asked, looking back down at his invention as Musa tensed up at the cold tone.

"I-I'm not joining." Musa stuttered out.

"Musa Kendall, I'm giving him a tour." Y/N answered, seeming to ignore the other Omega's statement.

Kaminari hummed softly, and Musa noticed how tense Y/N was. Did she...like Kaminari? The ravenette wondered to himself, glancing at Kit to see if he could give some sort of answer to the Omega, but the Beta wore a serious expression.

"So Alistair screwed up?" Kaminari questioned.

Y/N nodded her head. "Alistair screwed up."

Kaminari sighed, placing the device and the tool in his hand onto the table before he stood up. Musa felt much more intimidated since Kaminari was significantly taller than him, and even Kit. "This is my lab. Don't touch anything unless you're willing to loose a finger." The silver-blue haired male warned Musa.

"He's serious." Kit whispered into Musa's ear, causing the Omega to shudder.

"I invent devices to help out my pack." Kaminari continued with a bored expression as he crossed his arms in front of him.

"He's currently been inventing different ways to grow plants in bad conditioned areas, because it's a bit hard for some of our members to just go out and buy groceries." Y/N explained, speaking a bit proudly as she motioned to the many devices in the room that had greenery in them.

"That's amazing." Musa genuinely praised the male. "That type of technology could be very useful in the outside world, too. There's many places that are going through famine because their soil is unable to grow crops." He declared.

Y/N's eyes seemed to have a mischievous spark, and even Kaminari had an odd smug expression fill his ice blue eyes.

"Thanks for your time, Kaminari. We'll see you later." Kit declared, roughly patting the other male's shoulder and causing Kaminari to grunt softly. "Shall we continue with our tour, Y/N?" He questioned his friend eagerly.

"Oh, right!" Y/N agreed, a bit too enthusiastically. "Thank you for your time, Kaminari." She said, waving to him as she began to push Musa out of the room.

"Good luck." Kaminari said monotonously, watching the trio until they disappeared when the door closed behind them.

"Oh thank the gods that's over with." Y/N sighed, completely collapsing into Kit's arms.

"Y-Y/N!" Musa stuttered, flailing at her sudden action and looking at her with concern.

"I'm fine, Omega Kendall." Y/N assured, waving her hand at the male dismissively. "I just get so drained talking to Alphas." She explained.

"R-right." Musa stared at the female, confused just as much as he was concerned.

"Anyways!" Y/N clapped her hands together, causing Musa to jolt at the loud noise and her to smile at him apologetically. "I still have something to show you." She insisted, beginning to walk down the hall once more.

Musa stared at Kit, who simply grinned and shrugged his shoulders before the two caught up with the odd (H/C) female.

The three then stood in front of a circular opening. Once more, Y/N had placed her hand against the glowing screen on the wall, and as Musa followed the other two through the door, he gasped and clung onto the railing before he could accidentally topple down three floors.

"Woah, watch out speedster." Y/N laughed, half-way down the first set of steps on his left as she glanced up at Musa with a grin. "Guess we should've warned you to look out." She hummed as Kit chuckled and looked just as amused.

"What...is this place?" Musa asked, more in awe than upset that he had almost fallen to his death.

The bunker was a lot bigger than he had ever imagined, as it had four complete levels with one of the circular doors he had just walked through, telling him that there were more hallways like the ones they had just passed through. The stairs went down in a spiral shape, dark cords hanging from the ceiling in the center and holding large light bulbs of different shapes and sizes that illuminated the room on the bottom floor with a soft yellow glow. Everything was, of course, metallic, causing the footsteps of the trio to cause a 'thud' every time they took a step down closer to the bottom floor.

"This was an abandoned subway station." Kit stated. "Y/N's grandfather found it by accident a long time ago when he was creating this bunker, sure that the world was going to end at some point or whatever. He ended up joining the bunker with the station, and with some modifications from Y/N's father and Kaminari, voila!" He dramatically explained.

"Each floor is given for different purposes. The floor we were just on is used for research and business, we also have an infirmary and keep most of our weapons on that floor." Y/N began to tell Musa, gripping onto the railing as she stopped on the next floor and looked down at the floor below them. It was half of a circular room, with a bar hidden under the staircase, couches and a TV on the other side, and a couple of games here and there.

People filled the room, not making it crammed, but making it seemed lived in. There were older people, adults, teenagers, and children, the type of people that Musa was startled to see having any affiliation with a dangerous group that the Cross Pack was known for being.

"The second floor is where our people sleep. Each room has a lounge and four beds, we'll add cots if there are too many in families because we don't believe in separation." Y/N declared with an affectionate gaze at her pack members, a beat missing in Musa's chest at her expression.

"Do you have many outbreaks? With Alphas and Omegas being in the same place..." Musa drifted off, shuttering at the thought.

"Of course there's a few here and then, we can't fight our instincts. But the infirmaries that we have on the third floor blocks out the strong scents and noises created by those in heat and rut." Y/N explained. "But there's no looking down on one-another here. We're all equal under the roof of the Cross Pack." She stated.

"I heard that all of the members used to be criminals before they joined." Musa found himself blurting out.

However, Y/N didn't seem too concerned as she kept her affectionate gaze. "Most of them were. I don't know how it works, but being in a dark place...it connects people in a way others can't imagine." She told him. "We take in Omegas, Betas, and even Alphas who don't have anywhere else to go. Whether it be because of something illegal that they did, or something that someone else did to them, and we help them. Like the plants in Kaminari's lab, we take seeds and we help them grow in bad conditions."

Y/N then turned herself fully to Musa, looking up at his taller frame. "You said that you don't know why we kill, but I promise you it's not because we're heartless monsters. You'll have to give that credit to the members of the Windsor Pack." She told him, a slight sneer appearing on her features as she told him this. "The reason we do what we do is because we want to bring justice to those who can't do it themselves. The members of the Cross Pack will be the ones to change the world, creating a haven so that everyone can ignore all prejudices." She declared.

"It can't be that simple." Musa muttered, wishing not to make the female feel upset, but also wanting her to know that a dream such as that could never exist. It was just a fantasy that many hoped but could never succeed.

Y/N's eyes flashed a dark glint, before she continued to wear her determined expression as she turned away from him and gripped onto the railing once more. "We've all been through hardships, Omega Kendall, you should know that just as well as any of us." She told him with a sharp tone, alerting Musa that he had indeed upset her. "But when things happen like they have for you, becoming the first Omega journalist, it gives hope to the rest of us." The (H/C) declared.

Musa parted his lips, before pressing them together when seeing Kit shake his head at him. Sighing, instead, Musa ran his fingers through his unkempt styled hair. "I still don't understand why that justifies you killing innocents."

"The people we kill aren't innocent." Y/N declared, turning to Musa with a fury in her eyes. "They were people who looked down on those they thought were below them, who hurt others without giving a single fuck about what could happen. We kill people who are anything like the members of the Windsor Pack, because they are far more dangerous than anything you could ever imagine." She seethed.

Musa began to tremble in his boots. Was it really possible for an Omega to look so absolutely terrifying? Did he have the ability to look like that?

"Why am I here, Y/N?" Musa weakly questioned, almost sounding like a strangled whisper as his bangs casted a shadow over his amethyst eyes, causing Y/N to take a step backwards in surprise.

Y/N then cleared her throat and straightened her posture. "You must be an idiot if you think that I was the only one to notice you, one Omega among a bunch of Alphas and Betas, officers of the Force no less, looking completely unafraid of the scene we had presented. If we didn't claim you first, then the Windsor Pack would've killed you or worse." She told him.

"What?" Musa squeaked, his eyes staring at the other two owlishly.

"The Windsor Pack has always believed that Alphas are the top of the food chain, that's why they don't accept anyone else." Y/N declared. "If they think that one person will change what they believe in, they'll destroy them. There's a reason we're enemies, y'know?" She huffed.

"But I'm not a threat to anyone." Musa insisted weakly.

"No, you're just an innocent Omega." Y/N agreed.

"But you're one of the firsts to receive benefits not made for your kind." Kit stated, ignoring the stare that Y/N sent him when he said the word 'kind'. "They'll use you as a type of message to anyone trying to change things."

"How can you be so sure?" Musa questioned, staring at the two hopelessly.

"I grew up with Rowan Windsor. I knew his father, and trust me, I know him. If he heard about you, you have a neon target on your back reading 'number one enemy'." Y/N declared.

Musa parted his lips, before pressing them back together again as he felt tears well up in his eyes.

Y/N sighed, her expression softening once more as she took a step towards him and placed her hands on his shoulders. "Musa." She cooed, like a mother to their crying child. "You will be safe here, I promise."

"How long will I have to stay here?" Musa whimpered. "I have a life, somewhat, and I have a family. My sister-"

"I promise that your family will be safe." Y/N insisted, gently rubbing his shoulders. "I will put my best men on watch, nothing will happen to them. You'll just have to wait until things die down, the Windsor Pack has been on edge recently, but once things get settled I promise you that you'll be able to return to your life." Three promises in less than five minutes, Y/N knew that she was probably biting off more than she could chew, but having the chance to protect a fellow Omega, she would do anything.

Musa tensed up. Not because of her touch, no, that was actually much appreciated as most Omegas relied on touchy affection, and he was one of many. "Why...Have they been on edge?" He asked, wondering if this might be the story that Jocelyn had told him about.

Y/N paused her actions, before she sighed with a faux smile as she looked up at the taller Omega. "I'm getting married." She told him. "To the leader of the Canmore Pack."
