Preparing for a Rabbit
You might of heard that rabbits can be kept in a cage. I guess if you have no other option then you'll have to use one. If you do keep them in a cage, make sure you give your rabbit lots of excersise and if the cage has a wire bottom, offer an alternative like fleece to lay on so they don't develop sore hocks. I will talk about those in a different chapter.
So some options on where to put your rabbit are:
-free ranging your rabbit
-kept in a rabbit condo
-good sized cage without a wire bottom(give plenty of daily play time)
-a dog ex-pen about 3 feet high
-a hutch with a run
These are some ideas on where to put your rabbit instead of a cage sold in a pet store. If you use an a dog ex-pen, keep your rabbit inside else it can be easily killed by predators. If your rabbit is outside then make sure your cage has a bottom! A fox or coyote can dig through and get to your pet or your bunny can burrow out. Most people don't think of those possibilities.
If your wondering, a rabbit condo is a cage with multiple levels and no wire bottoms.
Moving on to your pet's food. Your rabbits diet should be 80% hay, 15% veggies(leafy greens), and 5% pellets. Most people give their rabbits pellets and water with some hay. Please don't do this. It will cause your pet to get obese and cause health problems. So you should feed your bunny 1 cup of veggies per 3 pounds of body weight, 1/4 cup of pellets per 6 pounds. Give your bunny unlimited hay and water. When giving your bunny water, use a bowl because the water bottle doesn't give them enough water. Bunnies will drink as much water as a dog. Keep that in mind when your buying supplies. Only give baby bunnies alfalfa hay and more than 1/4 pellets since they need the extra fat to thrive.
Treats are great for your bunny. You can give them a little banana or apple or a carrot(baby carrot). These foods are very high in sugar so don't give them to much.
Here's a video on the right fruits and veggies to feed your bunny:

Next is toys! Believe it or not, bunnies need toys. They need toys or chews to gnaw on so their teeth don't grow too long. Hay helps with this. Offer your rabbit at least two toys for them to play/chew. Baby toys can actually work. You can give them stacking cups or little plastic keys. They love to knock down or throw these toys around. Paper towel rolls can work too! Even a pine cone with a treat wedged in it will entertain them.
Litter boxes and bedding. Yup, rabbits can and will go in a litter box if you can train them. I'll further explain this subject in another chapter. Bedding is important though. Untreated wood chips can do or the horse stall pellet sort of things will work. I'll give you a video on what you need later. When you buy a litter box, don't buy the tiny ones where your bunny can't fit in them. A good box would be a cat litter box. It doesn't have to be fancy or with a top to it. You can even take a storage container and cut an opening for them. Also, its great if you put the rabbit's hay feeder above their litter box.
So I covered the basics on how to prepare, but here's a video to review or cover things i might of missed.
