When it comes to the outbreak the dragons can actually choose when they wish to grow up. If they wish to stay as young they can, but if they wish to grow up they will.

Some choose to grow normally while others choose to grow faster. A good example was Chaos, she chose to stay young for a good while before finally picking to grow up in order to help Iana out better.

Though their appearance can change based on their emotions when evolving/growing up. If it is under stressful or anxiety inducing their appearance will be more aggressive and frightening looking. If it is under calm and positive circumstances they will appear more friendlier.

With this in mind with how things are going it will be no surprise if Tarkai's kids and Fae end up having to force evolve out of fear and anxiety of what was going on.

(Hehe even the hatchlings aren't safe :p)
