Fanfiction: Naruto

Characters: At first I was put off by how out of character Naruto acted, but eventually I began to appreciate certain aspects his his character. He was out of character because he was literally pretending to be "Hisato" and more or less became a different person after the war gave him his mental scars. It was also interesting to see how Naruto's state of mind had gotten bad enough to the point where Kurama of all people had to try and be optimistic to cheer him up. Hits you in the feels for sure.

Plot: The plot loosely follows the plot of Naruto as most Naruto fanfiction do, but it has a sprinkling of comedy in it to lighten things up and also has it's own plot going on behind the scenes. Naruto being transported to the past apparently has something to do with a prophecy from the Toad Sage (the super old toad I forget the name of) and Jiraiya is looking into it. Of course, Naruto doesn't want to mess things up by revealing his future knowledge, which has lead to some of the people he cares about not trusting him or thinking he's a spy. Because of Naruto having to become "Hisato" to hide his identity I've definitely gotten nervous for him while reading, he's been in some troubling situations and I have a feeling things are only going to ramp up from here.

Writing: The writing is honestly top notch stuff. Good use of vocabulary, good structure, good dialogue, and most importantly a good read. Once I got a chapter or two in I quickly found myself binge reading the whole thing until I became more invested in the story than I thought I would originally. I may have spotted a typo or two, but those are accidents and everyone gets them, so they're easy to glance over and ignore. In short, because the writing was good, the structure of the sentences and paragraphs didn't distract me from what's important; which is the story of course.

Notes: To be honest I was kind of hoping he would've gotten sent back to the Fourth Hokage's time when Kakashi was a kid, because that would have been really interesting to see. Not many Naruto fanfictions I've read will go back to that time. Not to mention if Naruto could actually meet his parents maybe they could help him recover emotionally and mentally and his future knowledge could possibly change the future. Other than that, I appreciated and admired how respectfully the author included the topic of suicide. It is a very delicate topic to include in a story, and I think people often don't understand or are insensitive about suicide and people suffering with mental health problems; well done.
