Death Note: Life Note

Characters: The main character is a girl in highschool with the name Benihime Kimura, although it is later revealed that's not her real name when Light I'm-a-gay tries to kill her. Why does he try to kill her? Well you'll have to read and find out, I'd hate to spoil the book! Anyways, as a character I don't really have any complaints. I wouldn't say she is a cliche kind of character, although the whole being adopted thing seemed cliche to me, but later on it was explained and honestly made sense so I won't complain about that at all. Also her real name made me wheeze, it was just so unexpected and kind of funny if I'm being honest. Moving along from Benihime, I didn't really like Ari the Goddes of Light. She could've been a really cool character if she was brought in earlier. Benihime had the notebook for a long time before Ari showed up, why did it take so long? I'll address that later though. As a character Ari was kind of boring. She talked very little and overall did nothing. Heck, she didn't even explain the rules like Ryuk did for Light. Benihime really doesn't like Ari, but it is never really explained as to why. Ari hasn't really done anything that would make Beni hate her, in fact all she did was try to help. Ari could've had a much bigger role and impact on the story if she had come in sooner. It almost seemed like she was added last minute... But I'm super happy about how she still helped Beni.
Plot: The plot pretty much followed Death Note with a few twists and turns here and there. For example, the Life Note. Another example, Benihime and her biological family. Considering I don't come across many Death Note fanfictions, this one was pretty good plot wise. The parents in a car accident is kind of cliche, but in a Death Note fanfiction honestly it's fine, I mean Light needed to set a trap for Benihime to use her Life Note so it works. If you felt like it you could've even just changed the entire plot up, granted that takes a lot of planning (I know after writing a/u's) and consideration. But if you do it well it really pays off.
Writing: The writing was probably the best part. You had paragraphs separating all the texts and the character dialogue was done really well. No big mistakes really stood out to me. There were a few typos here and there, but overall there were very few. When things were supposed to be sad or depressing the atmosphere gave that kind of vibe. The mood was set really well in each of the chapters, which really gave me a feel for the emotions of the characters especially when it came to Benihime and Mello.
Notes: If you're looking for a good Death Note fanfiction that isn't Light x L or fricking Light x Reader x L, then check this book out.
