8. I Read her Book

Ryan Damison

"Well, if he is that important, then why trade off Rose for a wuss? I will marry his daughter." I finally speak out the thought which was rolling in my mind for months.

"He has a daughter?"

"Yeah. Amara. They are twins." I take a sip from my glass, before adding quietly, "Me and her.. We had a thing."

"Ryan.." My father rolls his eyes. "You had a thing with half of the girls in the city."

"This is different, dad. I really love her." My voice shifts to a serious tone, as my gaze shift to hers.

Amara is is standing a few feet away, talking with her classmate. She slowly peels her graduation robe, revealing her porcaline skin under it.

I feel a tightness in my muscles as I stare at her naked back from her backless dress and instantly, I am reminded how soft her skin felt under my touch.

Smooth like silk slipping from my fingers.

And suddenly she turns around. My heart skips a beat and I hold my breath, waiting for her mesmerising eyes to fall at me. But the moment her gaze meet mine, she scowls looking away.

"Doesn't appear to me that she even likes you." Dad says in a dry tone, as he observes her too.

"She is just mad at me right now. But I know she loves me." I read her book. I know how obsessed she is with my eyes and abs.

I am sure she still got hots for me. Just playing hard to get.

My dad shakes his head, clearly not taking me seriously. "I am telling you, dad. She loves me too and I can get her back."

My father looks at me, his expression softening slightly as he places his hand on my shoulder. "Ryan, I wish you had told me all this before Rose did. Because now, I don't think it is possible for you to get married into the same family as your sister."

"That's the point. I don't want Rose tied to Amara's loser brother. That guy doesn't even have a job or business that comes close to matching our status." I make sure my words sink in.

"Think about it, dad. Can some MBA grad could handle Rose's expenses, her lifestyle and luxury you have spoiled her with since childhood? You know she will come running back to you when he can't keep up."

His fingers lightly tap on the rim of the glass as he listens to me carefully this time.

"I will marry Amara, dad." I say, meeting his gaze directly. "And you will still have your contact with the future commissioner."

He takes a deep sigh and finishes his drink in a gulp. He quietly walks up to the nearest stand, keeps the empty glass down, then comes back with a hard face.

"Three months." He says, with a sharp gaze.

"You got three months to make Amara stand in front of me, telling me she loves you and wants to marry you. Then I'll reconsider Rose and Ethan."

A grin spreads across my face and I reply instantly, "Done."

Three months is more than enough for me to win her back. All I have to do is get her to talk to me, unblock me, and kiss me.

I really miss those lips on mine.

"But remember Ryan.." My dad's voice breaks the chain of my thoughts as once again he keeps his hand on my shoulder, and speaks to me in a severe tone.

"In three months, either it's your and Amara's engagement. Or it's Rose and Ethan's."

"Got it." I tell him with a challenging tone of my own.

With a smile plastered on my face, I navigate through the crowd, heading where I had last spotted her. But my feet halt as I see a familiar figure, standing in my way and staring at Amara too.

This motherfucker!

My fists clench as I remember the way he stood too close to her, shaking her hand, talking to her, and even now how he is looking at her.

Everything about it burns me from inside.

My jaw tightens and I take a long stride towards him with rage simmering in my head.

I need to get him out of my way.

"Dakota." I grit his name.

He turns around slowly, like he has all the time in the world, and when his eyes meet mine, that arrogant smirk stretches across his face.

"Ryan." He says smoothly, extending his hand to me for a handshake.

I feel a tightness in my chest as I stare at his hand, refusing to take it. This pretentious fucker is acting like he is some kind of gentleman and he has never stabbed me in the back before.

"Still pretending to be a good guy after stealing your friend's girlfriend." I spit, unable to hold the venom out of my voice.

"I can't believe you still have that stick up your ass, Ryan." He comments with that infuriating smile on his face.

"It never left." I clench my jaw, recalling that moment when I caught him hooking up with Diana. He was nothing but a fucking termite in my life, who ate up my love and happiness.

"I heard you started your own company." Dakota tilts his head and comments with a smug face, "Finally stepping out of daddy's umbrella, huh?"

I scoff ridiculously at this pathetic attempt to spear me.

"I see.. Your jealous little cunt can't handle that at least I have an umbrella, unlike someone stole yours and kicked you on the road." And smirk, hitting his orphan ass.

"I don't need an umbrella, Ryan." His jaw tightens as he glares at me. "But the way you are begging for tech partners for your company, looks like you need it more than I do."

"Your sneaky habit to keep an eye on me and my girl has not gone yet." I shoot back, refusing to let him get the upper hand.

"Your girl?" His eyebrow inches up in surprise, and he glances over at Amara, who is busy talking with her mother and some random guy.

"Last time I heard from her, she mentioned how much she hates you." The bastard smirks at me amusingly.

I scoff, biting down the urge to let my fists do the talking. His smile is begging for a hello from my punch.

"Last time I heard, you had an accident and broke a few bones. Ribs to be specific." I comment casually and watch his jaw tighten so hard, that I could practically hear it. So it is true!

I sneer, taking a step closer, my voice dropping into a dark dangerous zone as I warn him, "If you care about keeping the rest of them intact.. Don't try to get in between me and her."

"What if I am already.. in the middle." He says, not budging an inch away.

"I will fucking destroy you and your little company. Now that I am back, don't think for a second I am letting you slither your way in. I will tear you apart." I spat without missing a beat.

"You haven't changed, Ryan." Dakota just scoffs, completely unimpressed. "Still throwing out threats like a little bitch. They say true.. Once an arse is always an arse."

"Funny." I smile, looking at his arrogant face, acting like he is better than me. But this son of a whore has no idea what he is dealing with.

"Do you remember how we used to party, got drunk and did shits? Because I didn't forget." I grin like a devil.

Dakota narrows his eyes at me, and my smirk only grows wider. His face hardens at my words and I can practically see the gears turning in his head.

If he is really smart, he knows what I am talking about.

"Enjoy." While you can..

I sneer, leaving him to overthink and heading back to the original direction I was going before.

Towards Amara.

I scan the crowd, searching for a fiery red head, but she is nowhere to be seen. Her parents are still standing there, chatting with other family, but she is gone.

Where did she go?

I push past the groups of people as I walk through one of the doors leading towards the office, determined to find her.

Just then, out of the corner of my eye, I spot her walking in the empty corridor of the college with some random guy.

Something burned in me, starting from the core of my chest, slowly spreading like a wildfire to the rest of my body.

The sight of them, talking and standing so close makes my blood boil hot.

I ball my fists in rage, and before I even realise it, my feet are moving. I stride towards them with my anger flaring high.

First Dakota, now him!

"Amara!" I growl, my voice thick with jealousy as I get closer.

Both of them turn around, and the second she sees me, she rolls her eyes.

She did not just do that!

"You know him?" The guy beside her asks, pointing towards me, clearly clueless.

But I don't even look at him. My eyes locked on her as she shakes her head, "Never seen him before." And says innocently, causing my anger to keep rising.

I stop just in front of her, gritting my teeth as I ask in an infuriating voice, "Who is he?"

Who the fuck is this guy?

"I am Henry." The guy replies, as if I care about his fuck shit name. "Who are you?" And asks me in return.

I shift my gaze towards him, and glare like a madman.

"I am her boyfriend, you dickhead!"
