•Age•
23

•Gender•
Female

•Sexuality•
Unsure and unexplored

•Appearance•
With features hidden beneath a constant film of ash and soot, Firefly's true appearance is almost always obscured. Under the black and brown, a pallid, almost translucent skin tone is evident. There had once been a time where Firefly was sun kissed and radiant, but after years in The Eyre, her complexion is nearly entirely alabaster. The surface, though pale, is not without flaw. Firefly is covered in blemishes, small scars and most notably, freckles from her days in the sun.

Firefly has a decently small build, with carved and trim lineaments. She is of average height, standing at 5'4 feet. She has a slim and tapered waistline, though usually disguised by the clothes she usually wears. She has sunken and defined collarbones that flank her elongated neck. Despite her line of work, she maintains superb posture. She has two large scars in the shape of an 'R' on both her stomach and back. The scar on her back is more mangled than the former.

Her cheekbones sit high on her slender face, and her jaw is straight and narrow. Firefly's nose is upturned, and her lips are fairly plump and permanently pouted. Her eyes are heavy lidded and dull shade of olive. Her eyes seem to become a much more vibrant green when she is overcome with emotion, positive or otherwise.

Perhaps her most defining feature, save for how dirtied she always comes across as, is her hair. The burnt umber locks reach down to her lower back, even with the natural waves that never want leave without the parting gift of frizz. Firefly usually keeps her tresses in some variation of a braided updo. There have been many days when she's been tempted to just cut it all off, but it never seems to come to this extremity.

Besides her great selection of platted hairstyles, Firefly's personal style is simple and practical. Her collection of cotton dresses are nearly identical, cream and stained with the consequences of labored hours spent. The detailing on the garments are plain and the fit exposes her ivory collarbones. Her need for winter wear has declined significantly since she started spending all her time around flames and heated objects. A brown apron is tied around her waist when she works, hiding away the laced leather corset that supports her spine. The length of her dresses cover her trusted lace-up boots which she's owned for years.

The usual display of her appearance may somewhat suggest otherwise, but in actuality, Firefly is really quite the sight to behold when stripped from the smudges that distort her features. Her nimble and calloused hands are attached to the likes of a pretty woman who keeps her true beauty away from the eyes of most.

•Personality•
Firefly is someone who mostly keeps to herself beyond when others need her assistance (ie. doing her job). She's distanced and mysterious to the majority of The Eyre's residents. She lives down in The Chambers, tucked away in her workshop and disconnected from reality. Firefly is far in distance from the general population and far in spirit from the assassins at The Eyre. She finds it a challenge to connect with other people, especially those who don't understand who's effort dwindles after they begin to find her true colors a bit overwhelming and confusing.

Firefly has a brilliantly intelligent mind. She's an absolute genius when it comes to what she's particularly talented in. She is an intellectual and a creative. It is clear when she's left to her own devices that she does little else than create or repair. She takes notice of patterns and things that work would work well together, and is continuous in allowing herself to do as her minds-eye sees fit. Logic and innovation are basically her superpowers. Her cleverness is without a doubt the most awe inspiring thing about the young woman, and was something largely unexplored before she came to The Eyre.

Though, beautifully mentally capable, Firefly refuses to acknowledge her own past. She's a stubborn person, though not in the regular sense of the word. She completely ignores any of her past traumas and sees this as a way of moving on. This can make her seem delusional, however, her mental scars make pushing away the past seem logical to her. She's quick to shut down anyone who tries to pull her out from her shell and she'll snap at those who try to uncover anything other than who she is in the now. Her backstory, including her real name, is a closely guarded secret.

She uses her work as a distraction from her own head. On her own, Firefly cannot handle the pounding memories and villains of her life, so she slaves away willingly to avoid flashbacks. Due to this, her work ethic is incredible and often times damaging to her physical health as she'll neglect sleep and eating. She really does adore what she does, but uses it more so as a device to move herself further away from the darker side of her mind than anything else.

She is quite a fearful person, and is loyal only to her own safety. She gets frightened easily when away from her workshop. Firefly will get skittish and seem like a bomb only moments away from detonation. She'll scream and beg, even get violent if she must to get herself back to her safe place. Being kept away from any direct harm to herself is her top priority, and this makes her morally ambiguous.

Firefly always feels every emotion as deeply and intensely as one can feel such a thing. Her joy can be overwhelming, and her fear a consuming force. She has a short fuse and a quick and terrible temper.  And when she feels nothing, she is well and truly numb. Firefly is wildly passionate because of this, but struggles to keep herself under control when she's feeling something.

Firefly might be gifted and capable, but her extreme fear of her past prohibits her from functioning as a proper human being. She's seen as odd, and difficult to build a relationship with. She is distrusting towards everyone, but follows orders nonetheless. Because if something keeps her safe she won't waver in doing what she can to keep it one her side.

•Background•
Ah yes, Firefly's greatest enemy, her own past. Let me explain:

Marigold Marshall was born into a lower class family in Exousiá. Her parents, Alice and Henry, were loving and kind people who worked as stablehands for a wealthy lord. Marigold wasn't their first child, rather she was the fifth, though only one of the others survived before she was born. The Marshall's had lost three children before any of them they reached age of five, save for their first born, Poppy and their youngest.

Though Poppy was seven years older than Marigold, the two sister got on like a house on fire. Poppy was ecstatic to have someone to look after and play with. The little family lived in peace for a wonderful five years until Henry died suddenly following a minor head injury. The three girls were devastated and Alice was out of work as her husband had been the only thing that allowed her to keep her job. A wife was only as good as her husband after all.

For four long years, Alice and her girls struggled. Though they tried to be as merry as they could because at least they were together. They had no home, little food and next to no money. Every winter, at least one of them would come close to passing away, until Alice, in her old age, finally did. Nine-year old Marigold found herself without a mother and alone with her sister, a sixteen year old Poppy.

Months after their mother's death the two orphans were labeled street rats and Poppy was labeled a whore, as the only source of money they had was the elder's good looks and developed body. It wasn't until the next autumn came when opportunity struck for the two young girls. A burly man with a unsettling smile offered Poppy a job in his 'circus'. The girl agreed under the circumstance that her little sister would be taken care of.

They girls were moved to Zestasía, and Poppy became a sort of showgirl who pleased on an off of stage. This period of their lives was a fairly good one, save for the nature of Poppy's job. They lived quite happily in the desert lands, though the two would often have to travel for months when the 'circus' toured. Both girls, though Marigold especially, picked up a vast amount of knowledge along the way and it became even to her sister just how smart the younger girl was. Her passion for forgery started when Marigold was ten and her immense talent quickly became obvious to her sister.

Marigold was eleven when Poppy promised her a different future than what Poppy had made for herself. Poppy vowed to never let her baby sister fall into her line of work. It was when Marigold turned fourteen that Poppy was drowned following the an argument about whether or not the younger sister would join the 'circus'. Poppy refused and her master took care of her.

With her elder sister dead, Marigold was forced to take Poppy's place. She worked like this for a year, feeling as though she was drowning in sorrow, when man whom had seen her performances offered her master a pretty price for her hand in marriage. She was fifteen when she was pushed into a marriage with Lord Francis Reginald of Exousiá.

To her husband, Marigold was an object, though a very beautiful one. He worked closely to the King and mostly in trade. Reginald was a corrupt and horrid man and the pair regularly argued which would result in the young teen either getting sexually assaulted or injured. Marigold's life certainly wasn't a happy one.

Twice she attempted escape, only to then be branded by her husband. Both times he marked her with an ugly "R" cut into her flesh, promising her that she would never be free of him. For years on end, Marigold had to continue on in a household where her life was possibly at risk every day. She suffered from two miscarriages in that time which only made the abuse worse than before.

At nineteen, Marigold escaped after a particularly bad night. She hid on her own for five days, suffering from injuries that needed treatment, when she stumbled upon The Eyre. Marigold begged for The Executioner's aid, before fainting at his feet due to severe blood loss. She was helped, and when she healed, she refused to leave. Her talents as a blacksmith had not been forgotten and after proving her skill, she was allowed to stay.

Marigold became known as Firefly soon after starting her work at The Eyre, as she refused to share her identity, too frightened he would find her once again and that the torture would continue.
