Chapter Two
Quiet Burdens
Chapter 2
Chapter Start!
Cole stepped inside the Inn, and sighed, "Rose! I'm going for a walk!" he called and ran past the kitchen, down a short hall, and to the back of the Inn.
He made his way into a room, on a bed he grabbed a bag and started back up front after closing the door.
Only to run into a short woman; Rose.
"Hi... Rose..." Cole smiled sheepishly, "And where are you going mister?" she glared. Cole looked away, "Nowhere?" the teen shrugged, Rose sighed, "Fine, go ahead, just be back before dark, okay?"
Cole nodded, and hugged his adopted mother before heading out the front of the Inn.
The town of Padstow; a quiet village, located on the small forest island of Crytinia, home to the Shrine for the Goddess of the same name.
Houses lined the streets, some for people who had left the main land in search for a better life; others have lived here since they were young.
Gil worked at the Blacksmiths, delivering his weapons all around the world, Victoria and her brother Klaus helped keep the shrine in best shape they could, but at the same time Victoria was a part of the crew that traveled with Gil around the world.
Captain Roland, the Captain of the SS Valor Fastest ship on the four seas, lived here as well.
The boat was also a fishing ship; they caught stuff for the village, and always made sure it was sold at a good price at the Saturday and Wednesday markets.
The forest itself was full of myth and legend, but it being so small, a small stone path followed around the island, near the cliff face in the back, and the flat forest less places in the western side of the island.
Cole followed the path behind the town hall, then past Gil's house, and followed it around the long way.
On the path, he followed the edges of the island, up and around, then the path took a hard left.
As Cole walked, a girl was walking the opposite direction, her hair was auburn red, and eyes a light gray.
"Hey Cole" she smiled and waved, and the two stopped. "Hey Victoria!" he waved back. "I see your heading up to the shrine" she laughed, "Gil giving you trouble again?"
"Sort of, he wants me to go with him on the ship to- Wait! Aren't you going?" Cole stopped himself, and Victoria's eyes widened, "Ah- ya! I just wanted to see the shrine before leaving!" she laughed sheepishly, "I should head back"
Cole gave a soft glare, "Ya maybe you should" he slightly laughed.
Victoria waved goodbye, and ran off, her slow walk had become a sprint, and Cole continued to walk down the stony path.
He made his way to the west side, and saw the open ocean near the cliffs.
After some time, and lunch, Cole headed to the path that lead up the mountain, to the middle of the island, where Crytinia's shrine sat.
For some reason, Cole always felt calmer near the shrine...
He made his way over, and through the forest, he could see a clearing, when the muddy path turned to grass, the sight of a mossy stone building could be seen.
The gray from the rock greened in the sun; the opening in the front had steps going down to a large door. Some old writing was sprawled across the entire thing.
Cole walked near the shrine, it was as if the works formed in his mind from the scribbles on the stone monument; "Wh-n O-wa-- a-d Theo -re destined -- com- back – w-ll be th--e in a new ----, R-b--n." But most of the letters were missing from the text.
The teen shrugged it off, and went over to where the hill sloped down quickly, and the trees parted.
From there the sight of the Village was perfect, you could see the entire port, and it was the best place to watch the ships set sail...
He pulled his sketch book out, and some chalk Gil brought him once, and started to draw the land, the sky, and the houses...
When he finished, the sun was showing twilight, and he sighed getting up and putting his stuff away into his bag.
The sound of grass crumbling behind him stopped the boy.
"I see Rose sent you up to get me... Right Klaus?" Cole chuckled slightly.
"No" a deep gruff voice said darkly.
Cole stopped; the voice was deeper than what he remembers the Priest sounded like.
He turned quickly to find at least twelve men; each held a sword or axe.
The man who had spoken stepped up front, his hair was dark and curly, he had a beard, and his eyes burned a bloody red.
Cole stepped back, only to find his favored cliff to sit by bordering him to the crew before him.
"You're going to come quietly, or else" the man spat.
"And what if I run?" Cole honestly wondered.
"Then we'll take you back by force" his eyes narrowed "I've been searching for you for 17 years" a smile grow.
"17? I'm 19... Does that mean-" Cole's eyes narrowed.
"Just knock him out" the man interrupted Cole, and instructed one of his men to do as so, who ran up, and hit the teen across the head.
He fell with a thud, and the crew grabbed him.
Running off to their ship near the back of the island; Pirates Cove...
