Chapter 4
Iolande walked slowly through the inside of the cave. Other than the light coming from the entrance and the one from the lightsaber, it was rather dark and quiet, which just made her feel terrified to the point of shivering.
The temple was practically nothing, its ruins were no more than a bunch of huge broken pieces of stone, all piled together and in front of them stood multiple rows of columns which she assumed were once minor fortresses and temples for the Sith, but what really caught her attention was that there were a lot of statues around the place, statues of several individuals, crouching or covering themselves from an unknown attacker.
As a child, she grew up listening stories about monsters who would creep from under the bed and scare her to death, bite, or just absorb her soul. Now she was nineteen, she was way too old to believe in such things, but that cave gave her the feeling that something awful and dangerous was hiding in the shadows and could jump out of them and attack.
Despite her fear, she managed to keep her composure and focused her mind on searching for Ahsoka. She looked between the almost broken pillars of the surroundings of the temple, using the saber to get a better view, but no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't find her.
She kept looking for many hours, but finally she couldn't find her or any belonging that could serve as a clue. Finally she gave up and sat down, disappointed that she hadn't been able to find anything. Maybe the senators were right, maybe her crazy theory was just a waste of time and she should have never traveled to that awful planet.
But just as she was about to exit the cave and go back to the surface, she saw another cave a few feet away from her. 'What if she's in there?' she thought. She honestly couldn't tolerate being in that place any longer, but that was the last hope she had.
She slowly stood up and went to the other cave. When she entered, she saw that it wasn't as gloomy as the rest of the place, so her nervousness diminished just a little. She looked around and just saw several walls with no special writings. Suddenly she stopped as she saw a body lying on the floor. the body was lying on its side and had its back towards Iolande, but she recognized those montrals.
'It's her.' She thought, her heart beating faster than normal. She then ran, kneeled in front of Ahsoka's body and turned her around, she was unconscious and her skin was a bit pale. She grabbed her wrist to feel her pulse and was relived to feel a light, yet present beat. "Master Tano, wake up!" Iolande started shaking Ahsoka to make her react. "Please! Wake up!" finally, Ahsoka opened her eyes and gasped.
"Who... are you?" she asked weakly. "Don't worry." Replied Iolande. "I'm Sergeant Iolande Marra of the Rebel Alliance, I'm not going to harm you." Ahsoka was panting, she could barely move or speak, so Iolande offered her some water from one of her bottles.
Ahsoka drank it slowly and tried to stand up, but she fell on her knees. "Careful, you're still very weak, let me help you." She extended her hand and the former jedi grabbed it. "I'm going to get you out of here." They both went out of the cave and went towards the x-wing, just as Iolande remembered that the small star fighter couldn't carry them both.
"Really?" asked Ahsoka. "Yes, I know, but this is an unsanctioned mission and I couldn't afford to get caught. I'm going to call for another transport." Iolande turned on her comlink, while Ahsoka sat down again and hugged/grabbed Iolande's leg to support herself.
"Luke, this is Iolande, I'm gonna need another ship." Luke sighed on the other side of the comlink. "Let me guess, you took your x-wing." "Yes, yes. I'm an oaf, I get it, just get a transport quickly! She's barely alive!" she replied impatiently. "All right, I'll fetch one and contact you later." And with that, the talk was over.
Iolande sat next to Ahsoka. "Do not despair, my friend will come with a ship to take us away. In the mean time, eat something so you can regain your strength." She took one of the sandwiches and gave it to her. The togruta started to eat as Iolande sighed silently. 'May the force be with us.' she thought again as she prayed for Luke to arrive soon.
