6 - The First Normal

CHAPTER SIX

The news that famed hero, All Might, was teaching at U.A. spread like wildfire on dry grass. Though the fact had already been known to the students, once it was spread outside, the entirety of the country learnt of it. And that was the reason why reporters had crowded the entrance of U.A., hounding the students of the hero course, asking about the Symbol of Peace's teaching method.

"Gumi, you're seeing those reporters, right?"

Natsume pointed towards the small crowd that had gathered in front of the U.A. gates. He looked wary. "We need to go past them so that they don't hound us."

"Yeah," Megumi mirrored his expression. She had dealt with her fair share of reporters since middle school because of her father and eventually, Natsume had learnt the same thing. "What the hell are they even doing at the gates? They do know that they will not be allowed inside, right?"

"Who knows what reporters think?" Natsume grumbled slightly as he tightened the straps of his backpack. "We just need to make a run for it."

"Running right before class starts does not suit me, but okay. Let's go for it."

Without warning, Natsume grabbed onto her arm and started running. And when Natsume ran, he ran fast. So Megumi also had to pick up the pace to make sure she didn't fall against the pavement and twist her leg. But if there was one thing about her cousin's running, it was that he was light on his feet, even if he wasn't using his quirk.

The reporters, who were still crowded around the entrance gate, didn't even notice them. Not till they were right next to the gate. Before they could ask the duo any questions, Natsume and Megumi silently slipped past them and entered the school building. Once they were inside, they made their way towards their classroom.

"I hate reporters," Megumi said, releasing a sigh as they neared the classroom. "They are too much."

"I'd say they're just doing their job," Natsume replied. "But who stands in front of a school gate waiting to interview kids? Lucky for us though, the U.A. Barrier will keep them out.

      "Yeah. Lucky for us."

Once they were inside the class and joined by the others, who had been hounded by the reporters, they sat in their seats just like the rest. Megumi, sitting next to Todoroki, on her desk felt rather awkward. Since the battle training, she had felt she had been very rude to him, even though in his own way, Todoroki had been equally rude to both her and Shoji. If she did apologise...well, she'd see later.

For now, it was time to concentrate on the class.

"Good work with the battle training," Aizawa-sensei called out to everyone. "I've looked over all your scores. Bakugo, you're talented so don't act like a kid."

The explosive blond boy suddenly tensed up, a scowl covering his face. "Got it."

Then it was Midoriya's turn as Aizawa-sensei looked at him. "You settled it by breaking your arm again, didn't you? You can't keep on saying it's because you can't control your quirk. I don't like saying the same thing over and over. As long as you fixed the control issue, there is a lot you can do."

"Sorry for the sudden announcement. But today," Aizawa-sensei started to speak.

'Oh no, if it's another surprise test, I'm done. I love surprises as much as any person, but surprise tests are a no-go for me,' Megumi frantically thought, pressing her right thumb between her fingers.

      "You'll pick a class president."

Megumi facepalmed. But then, she smiled slightly. Finally, they were getting to do a normal activity. They definitely needed that after that battle training.

"I wanna be the class president! Pick me!" Kirishima said, raising both his hands.

"Yeah, I'd love to be the president too," Megumi added, raising her hands too. Though the job was bound to be stressful, she'd love to try still. Following her, Kaminari and Jiro raised their hands and soon all of the class were putting up their hands to be selected.

"Silence please!" Iida suddenly shouted. The class quietened immediately. "It is a job with the serious responsibility of leading others. It is not a job for just anyone who wants to do it. It is a calling that requires the trust of those around you. If we want to use democracy to decide a true leader, then we should hold an election to choose one."

"That's a good idea, but we haven't exactly known each other for too long," Natsume said.

Tsuyu nodded in agreement. "Yeah exactly. And everyone will vote for themselves anyway."

"Which is why anyone who manages to get multiple votes is undeniably capable!" Iida stated passionately. He looked at Aizawa-sensei who was currently zipping himself into his yellow sleeping bag. "What do you think, sensei?"

"I don't care," Aizawa-sensei replied in his usual tone. "As long as you decide before homeroom is over." Then he fell asleep.

      'He's weird,' Megumi thought.

      Then the voting process began.

As they were all writing down who they would be voting for, Megumi felt someone staring at her. For a second, she thought it was Todoroki, but then shook that thought out of her mind. Besides, the gaze felt familiar. She looked up, only to meet Natsume's eyes.

He silently mouthed his next few words. 'I'm voting for you, so you better vote for me.'

Megumi shot him a thumbs up. 'Okay,' She mouthed back. 'Whatever you say.'

The votes were soon collected, counted and then it was time for the results. After all the results, the top two and the only two to get multiple votes were Midoriya and Yaoyorozu.

"I got three votes?!" Midoriya exclaimed, sounding very shocked.

"Who the hell voted for Deku?" Bakugo asked angrily.

'Well, no one was gonna vote for you,' Megumi said as she looked at Uraraka whistling innocently while trying to look natural.

From his sleeping bag, Aizawa-sensei announced the results. "Then, the class rep is Midoriya and the deputy class rep is Yaoyorozu."

"Well, I can't say I disagree with this outcome," Megumi said out loud, voicing her agreement alongside the others who were doing the same. All said and done, Midoriya had shown a lot of determination during the battle training as well as in the entrance exam. He would be a good class rep; but, judging by his current state in front of the class, he looked ready to pass out.

'He really needs to improve his confidence though.'

"There are a lot of people today too!"

Megumi was sitting with Uraraka, Iida and Midoriya today while Natsume went to sit with Kirishima and the others. The cafeteria was crowded and noise poured in from every corner, yet Megumi took comfort in it. They all sat at a table together as Iida explained the reason for the crowd in the cafeteria to Uraraka.

"That's because everyone in the hero course, the support course and the management course meets in the same place."

"The rice is delicious," Uraraka smiled as she took a bite of the rice.

"It is, right?" Megumi said in agreement. Her lunch was simple; chicken broth with plain white rice, but it was a comforting dish and Lunch Rush made it taste even more amazing somehow. "It's some of the best I've had."

Midoriya, instead of eating, was staring at his food. "Even though I've been chosen as class rep, I don't know if I am qualified for it."

      "You are," Uraraka said.

      "It'll be fine," Iida added.

"We're all gonna support you," Megumi also said.

"Your courage and judgement at critical moments make you worth following," Iida stated. "That's why I voted for you."

"But didn't you want to be class rep too, Iida-kun?" Megumi looked towards him questioningly. He definitely seemed like the leader type.

"Wanting to do it and being suitable for it are different issues," Iida replied. "I merely did what I judged to be correct."

"You speak so formally," The other three remarked in unison. His way of speaking sounded like people from highly important and rich families. She had met enough of them at the few galas her dad took her too to recognize their way of speaking.

Uraraka boldly said the same thing. "I've been thinking...are you a rich boy, Iida-kun?"

Iida looked shocked at being recognized. He turned away, a look of slight embarrassment on his face. "I tried to change how I talk because I didn't want to be called out on that."

"That's...." Megumi stared at him curiously, just like Midoriya and Uraraka were doing.

Iida sighed. "Yes, my family has been heroes for generations. I'm the second son."

"That's so cool!" The other three exclaimed. And it really was. To grow up in an all-hero family must have been amazing, though technically Megumi had experienced the same thing. But Iida's family sounded way cooler.

"Do you know the Turbo Hero, Ingenium?" Iida asked.

"Of course!" Midoriya exclaimed as Megumi nodded. Out of all the heroes she kept looking up, Ingenium was one of them. He was probably one of the coolest heroes, right after her dad and All Might of course.

The green haired boy continued to fanboy. "He's a really popular hero who has sixty five sidekicks working at his Tokyo agency."

"He is definitely one of my favorite heroes!" Megumi added, just a little enthusiastic about this fact. "I've even got a signed figurine of him!" (Alongside hundreds of her dad's own merch)

"He is my older brother!" Iida proudly declared.

      "That's amazing!" Midoriya exclaimed.

"He is a likeable hero who honors the rules and leads people. I set my sights on being a hero because I want to be like my brother." Iida said. "However, I think it's too soon for me to lead others. Unlike me, Midoriya realised the point of the practical part of the entrance exam so he is more suitable for the job."

"That's very true," Megumi said. "My dad would definitely love to work with a quick thinker like Midoriya in his agency."

"Wait, really?" Midoriya met her eyes, with surprise visible in his eyes. "Your dad's a pro-hero too?"

"Yes," Megumi nodded. Looking at all three of them, she added. "I'm sure you three know of him or at least have heard of him in some way."

"Have we?" Uraraka asked, with a curious look towards Megumi.

She nodded. These were good people; they were not like the people from her middle school who only became friendly with her because of her father. They had treated her normally enough and she trusted them enough to let them know. "He's currently the number 7 pro-hero, the Scarlet Hero, Red Flame."

"Wait, really?" This time, Iida was included in the shocked faces team. Megumi nodded, the smallest grin on her face.

"He's such an awesome hero!" Midoriya said, eyes shining with sparkles. "And he works so well with any hero he teams up with!"

"Oh yes, that's right," Iida added, tapping his right index finger on his chin. "Red Flame is most well-known for his teamwork skills and his ability to work perfectly with any hero. He's able to read people really well too."

"That he can do," Megumi replied. "Watching him has really made me wanna be a hero, just like him so that I can work really well with others."

"That's awesome," Uraraka said. "Your dad sounds really cool!"

Before anyone could say anything further, an alarm started to ring. It echoed through the cafeteria as all students let out varying degrees of surprised gasps.

"An alarm?!" Midoriya said with shock.

"There has been a Level 3 security breach," A robotic female voice announced. "All students, please evacuate outdoors promptly."

"What is Level 3 security?" Iida asked one of the upperclassmen who was sitting on the same table as them.

"It means someone is trespassing on school grounds!" The upperclassmen answered. "I've never seen anything like this in the three years I've been here! You should hurry too!"

"Let's go, let's go!" Megumi said, tapping the table to get the other three's attention. "We need to leave." 'Dammit, Natsume! I hope you're safe!'

But the sudden announcement caused mass panic. Mass panic meant people were rushing in from everywhere, crowding together. Students were pushing against each other, trying to stop themselves from falling. This felt like the rush on the trains during peak hours, but this was also worse than that.

Uraraka and Megumi had grabbed onto each other's hands, to prevent themselves from being separated by the crowd. Right in front of them was Midoriya who was also trying to prevent himself from being squished in the crowd. Behind them was Iida who was currently pressed up against the corridor window.

Megumi heard Kirishima, Natsume and Kaminari call out for everyone to stop, but they were swept away into the crowd.

"Oh no!" Uraraka cried as her hand slipped from Megumi's due to the pushing from the crowd. But Megumi immediately rushed towards her, trying to grip her hand. Behind them, Iida was trying to get to the girls.

"Make me float, Uraraka-kun!" Iida yelled as he extended his hand towards them. Megumi pushed Uraraka towards the bespectacled boy as he reached out to touch her hand. And then, he was floating. Using his quirk, Iida propelled himself through the air.

"What's he doing?" Megumi yelled, but her voice was drowned in the mob. Then poor Iida smacked straight into the wall. Megumi winced at that; it must have hurt.

"Everyone, everything's fine!" Iida yelled, loud enough that he gathered the crowd's attention. "It is just the media! There is nothing to panic about. Everything's fine! This is U.A! Let us act in a way befitting the best of the best."

The crowd seemed to have been shocked into silence. Then everyone let out relieved sighs and let themselves relax. Uraraka and Megumi looked at each other and smiled, while nodding. Sirens echoed, giving away that the police were here at the campus. It was going to be okay.

"But first, can I say something?"

They were back in the classroom after the hectic events at lunch. All of 1-A was seated at their places, ready to hear what their class reps had to say. Midoriya looked just as shy as always, but then he spoke with a lot more confidence.

"I think that...Tenya Iida should be the class rep after all!" He declared. "He was able to get everyone's attention in such a cool way. I think it would be best for Iida to do it."

Megumi looked at Iida, who seemed utterly shocked at what the green haired boy was saying. She smiled. He had shown the signs of being a true-leader.

"I'm good with that too," Kirishima said as he turned to look at Iida. "Midoriya's saying it and it's true that Iida was a big help at the cafeteria today."

"Yeah," Kaminari nodded in agreement. "And he kind of looked like the person on the emergency exit signs, didn't he?"

"I saw the resemblance too," Natsume added with a grin.

Suddenly, Aizawa-sensei spoke, still in his sleeping bag. "You're wasting time. I don't care what you do. Just hurry up and do it."

Iida stood up at his desk, his hands at his sides. "If the class rep has nominated me, then I have no choice. From this day on, I, Tenya Iida, promise to do my best to carry out the duties of class representative."

Iida turned back to look at Uraraka who sent him a thumbs up. Then he looked at Megumi who grinned and nodded, shooting finger guns towards him.

At least, there was something normal done at school filled with people with quirks and wild and brutal battle training. And that 'something normal' had gone well. Now, what would come next? Megumi thought

(Should she expect the unexpected or should she expect something normal? Only time could really tell.)

Nothing much to say for this chapter, except this is a filler and was supposed to be longer and then it crossed 2500 words. But this also explains why Megumi was so mad at Todoroki for not working as a team; reason being her dad is known for working well with practically every hero he meets. That's why she felt angry at him. Also, Megumi is officially a part of the Dekusquad with this chapter, so expect more moments between them. Till then, hope you all enjoyed reading this!
