1 - U.A. Entrance Exam

CHAPTER ONE

Seeing the imposing building of U.A. High School in front of her, Megumi Okumura couldn't help but be nervous. Even after months of training with her dad and her cousin, the pressure of the entrance exam seemed to get to her, at last. She wrung her hands together, hesitating to take another step.

"Gumi-Gumi, you look really nervous," Natsume snickered at her side, patting her shoulder. "Don't tell me you're afraid of failing this even after all that training with your dad."

"Shut up, Natsume," Megumi answered, frowning slightly. But Natsume wasn't wrong. Her father was the number 7 pro hero and though she could have easily entered the U.A. through his recommendation, she hadn't taken that path. It had been a silly thing, but this was going to be the first chance she would get to step out of her father's shadow.

She sighed and closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath. Once she opened them, Megumi stared at the blue arches and the golden insignia of the school that seemed to glow under the morning sun.

"This is it," She said out loud, looking towards Natsume. "This is our first step on the path towards being heroes."

"Yeah," Natsume grinned, slamming his fists together. "I can't wait to show everyone how badass I am."

"Me too, I guess," Megumi replied with a slight chuckle. "I wonder what they would think of my quirk though."

"I'm sure the examiners will find it super cool!" Natsume patted her back. "Don't already sell yourself short, Gumi. You will do well and you'll pass too, I'm sure!"

"Thanks," Megumi pointed finger guns at him, smiling. Natsume's bright presence itself often acted as an encouragement to her and she needed exactly that right now.  As long as she believed she had the capability to pass this test, she could do it. She just had to believe.

After a speech by the pro hero, Present Mic, all potential future heroes made their way to their respective battle centres. Megumi and Natsume had been separated and were placed separately, though that was understandable. The exam itself had been divided into two parts; a written one and a practical one. Megumi wasn't scared of the written one; she knew she'd ace that, but the practical exam was the one that made her nervous.

"I wonder how strong those robots will be," Megumi muttered to herself, unintentionally using her white flame's wings. After realising that, she quickly put them out. Glancing around at everyone, she noticed they looked well-prepared, dressed in outfits that would make it comfortable to use their quirks.

Megumi was dressed in a similar manner, wearing a fireproof set of clothing that would enable her to her quirk freely. And for protection, the flame wings were enough.

All of a sudden, she heard a noise coming from behind her and turned around. A bespectacled boy was standing next to another boy who seemed to get more nervous by the second.

"She looks like she's trying to focus on the trials ahead," The boy with glasses said, pointing towards a short, brown-haired girl in the crowd. "What are you going to do? Distract her and ruin her chances to succeed?"

The green-haired boy appeared to panic. He shook his head, denying the accusation. "No, no, no! That's not it!"

Other people from the crowd were drawn to the two as the green-haired boy continued to panic.

"Hey look," One of them laughed. "It's the guy who almost bit it out in front earlier."

Another one pointed his finger towards him, grinning. "He practically wet himself in the lecture hall."

"Dude, what a loser. Well, one less rival to worry about, I guess."

Megumi frowned slightly. She disliked this kind of attitude; it was unnecessary and not very hero-like. She was about to start walking towards the green-haired boy to provide him with her support and reassurance when Present Mic's voice suddenly called out, gathering everyone's attention.

"Right, let's start!" He said. "Get moving! There are no countdowns in real battles! Run, run, run, listeners! You're wasting your time here!"

Megumi took one last look at the green-haired boy, before closing her eyes and concentrating. Once she opened them, she caught the faint shadow of her flame wings on her back and smiled softly. With a single breath, she jumped into the sky, wings spread wide behind her. Not bothering to look at the crowd anymore, she flew ahead, hoping to find some robots to destroy.

Megumi scanned the area from her high vantage point, murmuring and analysing the scene under her breath. Her eyes caught the sharp glint of metal and she immediately flew closer, finding herself looking at three one-pointer robots.

      "White Flame, let's go!"

Megumi let out her battle cry, the breadth of her wings increasing. She flew down at immense speed, cutting through the three robots with ease. Her white flames were almost like a laser and effectively cut through the monstrous robots. One by one, she took down all three, silently cheering.

"That's three points!" Megumi pumped her fist into the air, flying away from the rising dust clouds. She could do this. She could potentially get into U.A. But she shook her head. She couldn't get overconfident now; she still needed more points.

And so, off she flew, in hunt of more robots and more points.

Megumi had the perfect vantage point. She scanned the crowd from above, watching as everyone else took out the robots. In a short span of four minutes, she had already managed to gather up 47 points. Somehow. She just needed a few more. A few more and she would have a chance to get into this school.

Suddenly, her eyes fell on the green-haired boy from earlier. He was surrounded by robots, looking completely helpless.

She hovered midair. '5 minutes and 40 seconds left...I need more points. But that boy looks like he needs help. I'll help him now. I have enough time to get more points later.'

Megumi flew down at her usual high speed. Without wasting even a second, she cut through all the robots like they were nothing. Once she had defeated them, she turned to look at the boy who had fallen on the ground and whose expression seemed to be a melting pot of emotions.

"Don't get distracted here, okay? Watch out for yourself," Megumi smiled at him, holding out her hand as she approached him. He took it, getting up from the ground, teeth till chattering out of fear and panic.

      "Y-yes!"

"I'd introduce myself to you, but there's no time," Megumi said as she spread her wings behind her. "But see you around, I guess." She shot straight into the air, going on the hunt for more robots.

After taking down a couple more of the monstrous machines, Megumi felt tired. Her wingspan had considerably lessened, but she still needed to continue fighting. Just as she was about to fly away in another direction, she felt the ground rumble. It shook heavily as dust exploded into the air. She immediately recoiled, trying to fly back into a safe place.

'This must be the zero pointer,' Megumi thought, fearfully looking at the massive robot that had emerged out of the ground. 'Why the heck is this thing worth zero points? It should be worth at least 50!'

The robot punched the ground, causing harsh winds to fly and creating dust clouds that clouded everyone's vision. Megumi tried to cover herself with her wings, flying backwards as she moved away from the attack. There was no way she would be able to defeat this thing. At her current strength, her wings wouldn't be able to cut through it at all.

'It's not worth any points and I can't waste my energy on destroying it. So what the hell do I do now?'

Running was a coward's way out. Megumi wasn't a coward, but seeing the size of the robot, running was the only option that came to her mind. She hated that; she hated running away from things, but there was nothing she could do right now. No option came to her mind.

Even as she started to move away, her eyes fell on the ground, seeing a solitary figure run towards the robot. It was that boy from before. He jumped into the air, fists glowing with red veins and slammed it into the metal. As soon as his fist connected, it caused a massive explosion. Smoke and debris flew from the robot as it started to shatter. Several more explosions erupted as the robot fell backwards.

And with one final explosion, it fell to the ground, completely destroyed.

"One minute remaining!" Present Mic's voice echoed through the battle centre.

Megumi covered her mouth in horror, watching as the green-haired boy through the sky. Her wings seemed to move on their own accord as she flew towards him with the intention to catch him. But even as she neared, a brown-haired girl, slapped him in the face. Suddenly, he was floating. As he came closer to the ground, his fall was cushioned and he fell to the road with a soft thud.

The girl suddenly looked incredibly tired and weakened. She cupped her hands over her mouths, eyes widening as she started to throw up.

"Wh-what was that?" Megumi said loudly, landing only a few feet away from the girl. She slowly stepped towards the girl, but suddenly a wave of tiredness hit her body. She must have arrived at her limits already. Well, that sucked. But she continued her slow walk as sweat dripped down her forehead.

She stopped when she heard Present Mic's voice echo throughout the centre. "And that's it! Time's up!"

A siren blared throughout the centre, signalling the end of the exam.

Megumi wiped her forehead, staring out at the scene before her. She couldn't put her finger on it, but something felt strange here. It almost felt like she was witnessing the start of something.

      But what exactly?

Here's the first chapter! We got Midoriya and Megumi meeting in this chapter and be rest assured that she and Todoroki will meet in the next one and their meeting would be kinda cute and awkward at the same time. I hope you all enjoyed reading this chapter.
