Chapter 3
Chapter 3
The moment she woke up, she knew she was being watched. Holding her breath, she remained in the bed that was too soft to be her own. With a sinking heart, her head wrapped around the notion that she almost drowned to death, had a self-proclaimed mate, and atop of that she was probably in her savior's house.
"Is fainting in the arms of another male a hobby of yours?"
Popping a few sore parts of her body, she sat up on the bed to see her mate leaning against the wall across from her, in a fresh white shirt and dark suit pants, giving off a different vibe from yesterday's haunted and drenched features.
His thick eyebrows slanted softly above his piercing hazel-green eyes, eyes that were shaped more like a fox than a wolf, and she couldn't help but notice that everything in his features were sharp. From the tips of his eyes tilted upwards, to thin lips and razor-edged jaws, his gaze was unsettling and daunting as ever, and his ink black hair cut clean above his brows did nothing to soften the look.
She looked down to her new attire- a baby blue nightdress, another article of cloth that she most definitely did not own along with the pink lacy one.
"I ought to know- as your mate of course- if you're going to run around with other males while you bear my mark on your neck. And to be clear, I'm never saving you from drowning again, so try not to get yourself killed in the future."
The memories of last night steadily filled in the gaps of her drowning and clearly being saved by the Alpha. Despite appreciating the man for saving her, her patience were running thin with his insistent claims of being mates.
"If you keep being ridiculous, I might just." She muttered as his frame tensed with her words. He continued nonetheless.
"Keep up that attitude Lady, right now, I'm this close to drowning you myself."
Her mouth dropped in disbelief.
"Uh- well excuse me-"
"You must be chronically insane or just attempting to be incredibly annoying, which you are- if you're wondering- doing a superb job by the way-" He rambled on, gesturing in a genuine manner that convinced her he was seriously considering she was a maniac.
She snapped.
"Look, perro." Her eyes narrowed.
"I'm really thankful that you saved me and-" She spread her arms to her dress for emphasis, "everything, but for the millionth time, I don't know who you are, where I am, and how I came here."
"So for the love of Luna, if you say that we've mated one more time-" her voice faded at the end but the threat was clear.
The man straightened as if uncomfortable, his eyes wavering as a troubled look flashed upon his features.
A few moments of silence fell after that, and the male started to massage his neck as he paced unnervingly across the floor. He whipped to her after deafening minutes, and she flinched at the sudden attention.
"Did you really lose your memories?" he murmured uncertainly, and inquired genuinely, "You truly don't remember anything of our marriage?"
Marriage?!
The prince scoffed as his bright emerald eyes caught the sunlight, and she slowly looked around to appreciate the grand suite she was placed in, catching the grand bathroom on the side, sofas and armchairs placed on a rug that looked like it was worth a few grands.
"Is this our room...?" She squeaked, the fire from her last remarks clearly dead from the bombs he chucked her way.
Mated and marriage? Ho-ly Hell.
"Your loveable lu Pavel family," the sarcasm wasn't lost on her, "insisted on the grandest room in the palace."
lu Pavel family...? But they were an aristocratic family in the late 1800s-
The look on her face was almost comical if it wasn't for the disturbing facts nagging her insides. Her eyes widen at the recognition. If this was the 1800s, and if this person claimed her to be what she is...
"What- What was your name again?" She stuttered out.
His green eyes bore into hers, a mixture of surprise and unbelief laced in his tone.
"Trenton au Lorn for you, Lady Elise. And Crown Prince for the rest."
===
I'm screwed.
She was- would she dare say it? Yes she would- royally fucked.
The bubbles in her bath popped musically, and the fragrance was thick of lilacs and roses.
In the midst of a calming bath, she cursed herself for not paying more attention to her history classes. As an engineering student, her forte was math and physics, so history class in high school was quite a bore for her.
She spent just the needed amount of effort to pass the class, naturally resulting in her historic knowledge to be dispensable- and therefore nonexistent after her final terms.
King Trenton au Lorn, the Werewolf King who put an end to the corruption led by the lu Pavel and ba Ruslan family, freeing humans from slavery in the process.
Queen Elise lu Pavel, the Queen Luna who was initially an enemy to the King until somehow she pulled out the big guns on her own family.
Now came the disaster of dispensable knowledge, how did she do it?
For the love of Luna, she could not remember the exposition, complication, and the crisis, the only remembrance of any historical events in this era was the climax:
The humans were freed.
And the Queen was tossed around the families like a doll in the laundry.
Oh, she was so- fucked.
That meant she had to get her head in this game real quick if she wanted the actual owner of this body to have a body to return to.
This whole situation was a pain in the ass, and a wonder itself, but if she didn't want to die in the crossfire, she needed someone on her side.
Her dear human maid, who she was introduced to as Azalea, knocked impatiently at the door of her bathroom, signaling that her 30 minutes were up.
"Just a moment!"
She stepped out of the tub to wrap a long towel around her, giving herself- no, Lady Elise a more thorough inspection.
The surprising part of this unfortunate exchange of souls, was that she didn't look much different from her contemporary self. She expected maybe a bigger set of boobs, or longer legs, or something- but she was every bit of herself right down to the color of her eyes.
Sighing at her bad luck, she went out the bathroom to be greeted by Azalea holding a deep emerald dress almost as tall as her, whilst struggling to grasp the black flats lying beside the drawers.
"For your evening supper with the Royal family." She gestured with her chin, "I was informed that the head of the lu Pavel and ba Ruslan's family will come to congratulate the marriage of the Crown Prince by sitting at your first supper with the Royal family, your highness."
"I was married the day before yesterday though?"
Azalea fidgeted slightly at my remark, and blushed slightly before continuing.
"Your highness had the unfortunate accident in the lake before the supper, so everyone deemed the Royal family to postpone the dinner for your care, your Majesty. The Crown Prince insisted on another day for the congratulatory dinner." She bowed, fearful that she had intruded on a sensitive topic.
"Oh."
And as she changed into the beautiful emerald dress, Eli wondered how she would have to hold herself against a literal pack of wolves that would certainly wait for their prey to show its weakness.
When Azalea was handling the thick locks of brown hair, the maid spoke up first from their initial exchange.
"Your majesty-" she started, but Eli inputted politely before she could start.
"Please call me Eli please. It's suffocating when everyone calls me that. I want a real friend in this place. Please, Azalea will you?" she pleaded silently, her brown eyes wide in plea.
"Of course, your-um, Lady Eli." Azalea scrunched her brows in slight worry before starting her question. "Have you- uh, do you really not remember me, or any other of the maids that assisted you?"
It was Eli's turn to scrunch her eyebrows, frowning at the sadness of Azalea's tone.
"I'm sorry, but I really don't remember anything Azalea. I came from the future, so I don't know any manners from the past either, so you'll have to help me out here."
But just like every time Eli stated that she came from the future, Azalea looked at her as she would a poor puppy, and resumed in braiding her hair.
"Lady Eli, I will help you as much as I can, but you'll have to stop staying you came from the future if you want anyone to take you seriously."
And Eli knew that everyone would think of her as a nutcase if she went on saying that she came from the future. But she couldn't play prophet either, because it was just her luck that she transported to the most difficult and complex era of the past, where tons of events happened in sequence that she had long forgotten.
Shortly after their somber exchange, Azalea led her to the dining hall. True to her words, Azalea, in her petite form turned slightly to inform her of the people in the dining room, but it was close to impossible to listen in on anything when they walked along the halls of the palace.
She marveled at the grandness of everything, the evening sun slipping through the glass windows only accentuated the exquisite interior. The elegant gold designs etched in spots of the walls were an artwork itself, and the occasional portraits and paintings added to the final touch.
"-Lord Alexander will be there as well," The familiar name urged her to tune into her maid.
"Lord Alexander?" Eli repeated mostly for herself.
"Yes, he's the sole heir of the lu Pavel family, the pack in charge of the armory and war tactics in our kingdom, and will come with his father Alpha Augustus lu Pavel."
So Alec was the kingdom's most eligible bachelor? Interesting. Interesting indeed.
"Then there's the ba Ruslan pack." Azalea hid her distaste well, but not as much to cover her obvious hate for the family. "Their Alpha, Selznick ba Ruslan and his daughter are attending as well."
"What's her name?" Eli inquired.
"Rosaline ba Ruslan, my Lady, I warn you to stay away from her as much as possible." Azalea grimaced as they both turned the corner. "Lady Rosaline can be a real pain." Once again turning a corner, Azalea stopped at the grand doors.))
"Good luck, Lady Eli." Lucy said as she opened the door.
And oh boy, did she need it.
By pressing the little star, you can make my day!
