C H A S E ♔

Maddie and her family talked for a long time afterwards. Honestly, I felt like an intruder in it all. I felt like I was listening to a conversation I shouldn't have, but I also wanted to be there for Maddie.

She was good at hiding how she truly felt, but through the short time that we've been together, I've been slowly able to decode the subtle signals she sent.

It was already midnight when they finished talking and I was only glad that everything turned out to fine. Maddie's parents didn't want to accept her at first, they thought she was lying and I could see how much it hurt her. All I could do was tell her to be strong.

Cassian and Maddie's mother, Sharon was walking with her daughter to lead us to the room we would be using when her father, Phil was walking beside me. He turned to me with a smile.

"I'm glad it's you Chase," he started and I looked at him confusedly, "I'm glad you're Maddie's mate." he clarifies and that made me happy.

"She's a tough one, I'll admit." I tease him and we both laugh.

After a while we finally arrive in front of a door and that's when I realized. They only prepared one room for us both.

We never shared a room. The only time we even were on the same bed was on a hospital bed.

Sharon hugged her daughter tightly. "I want to catch up with you more, but you must be tired. Your dad and I will wait for you tomorrow, we have a lot to talk about, places to go to and people to meet, alright?" she tells her with a smile and fixing Maddie's hair.

Maddie nodded innocently at the face of new motherly love that she probably was never able to receive. I'm glad I'm able to witness all these sides of her.

"Yes, m-mom." she struggled to say and then blushed shyly, clearly not used to the term. Seeing that made me smile. Isn't she just adorable?

"Good night you two." Cassian says and we bid them all farewell.

When they left, Maddie and I entered the room. The room was a spacious and had everything we would need. Cassian really prepared for this.

I saw our small luggages beside the door and I went to carry them. We were going to stay here for a few days and that's why I had to bring some of my work here.

Everything that's been happening was too much to handle all at once and I was getting behind on some work. I was thankful when I noticed a mini office at one corner of the room.

I watched as Maddie opened her luggage to take out some clothes. She's most likely unaware that we were sharing this room for a few days.

Although the idea was the most welcomed, I knew I was going to have a hard time and Maddie will most likely be unsuspecting.

"I'm going to take a shower first." she says and smiled my way, her eyes puffy from all the crying but she still looked the best.

I nodded. As for me, I decided to take some of my paper work out and set them at the office table.

After a while, Maddie came out the shower, water dripping down her auburn fiery hair and she was wearing a shirt and shorts as pyjamas.

'Alright, learn some self control.' I remind my wolf.

'I did not even say anything.'  he responds to me.

'I was saying it to myself.'

Without a word, I also took a quick shower. Today was a long day, but it was also fulfilling. To see Maddie so happy was enough for me.

Anyways, if things ever didn't turn out right, I would have immediately taken her out of here.

I also got changed to a shirt and shorts and got out. When I got out of the bathroom, I found Maddie sitting on one side of the bed, brushing her hair. She seemed to have used a blow dry while I was in the shower.

"How are you feeling?" I ask her. She snapped out of a trance and turned to me.

"Different... Everything's different now." she says and I could understand that she meant it in a good way.

I slid in the spot beside her and sat up just as she was. She put the brush down beside the night table and looked at me.

"I'm not sure if I told you this already but, ever since I met you, everything changed." she started. Every word was being etched in my heart, I knew moments like these would be rare when Maddie allowed herself to be honest with how she felt.

"I hope it's in a good way." I say with a smile.

"It's in the best possible way." she said with the smile that looked best on her. I couldn't help but stop to appreciate the beauty that was in front of me. My chest sank and I cursed inwardly because I was falling and I couldn't stop it.

Sure, at first it was the mate bond, I was attracted to her because we were mates, but the longer I was able to get to know her, she became more perfect. I thought it'd be hard to love her, but it wasn't that hard at all.

I sighed and rested my head against the palm of my hand.

Maddie must've thought that something was wrong.

"Chase? What's wrong?" she asks.

I didn't answer her for a while and when I finally turned to her, I gave her mischievous smile.

"Don't smile like that at me in this situation." I tell her, feeling defeated. She cocked her head to one side, she wasn't sure of what I was trying to tell her.

"Which situation?"

I smirked and turned to her and leaned closer. "You realize that you're sharing a room with me and sleeping beside me for a few nights, don't you?"

At that, Maddie still didn't get it as if it was only natural.

"What's wrong with that? I've done that Andrew and the other rogues, we always slept beside each other." my eyes widened when she said that.

What did she say?!

I sat up straight and faced her.

"You let him touch you?!" I questioned, anger starting to rise towards that particular rogue that Maddie favoured and considered her friend.

But what she didn't know was that he liked her.

"Well, it's cold in the forest at night so we need the most heat we can g--"

"Heat?!"

Maddie must have realized something because then she squinted her eyes at me and unexpectedly, she raised her hand and lightly slapped my cheek.

"What exactly is going in your mind, Chase. Nothing like that ever happened." she said, sounding shy now that she realized what I was referring to. I was relieved when I heard it.

"Sheesh, I'm just clarifying." I say and lied down on my back and pulling the sheets up.

This day was definitely tiring, my head is going places it shouldn't be and making unnecessary troublesome situations.

However, not even a moment after lying down, I was surprised when Maddie hovered over me.

She stared at me straight in the eyes and spoke. "Why do you think anything will happen if we share the same bed?" she asks.

I was tempted to pull her head down and our lips meet, but I was a man of self-control.

"A lot of things happen when a man and woman share a bed, Maddie."

I watched as she smiled playfully and bent down closer.

My heart was beating faster and faster and there wasn't a way to calm it down so I just let it.

"I don't think I need to worry about that with you Chase."

Excuse me?

"That seems a bit insulting, I'm a healthy young and passionate male, I think you should worry a tad bit." I advise her.

However, she kept smiling.

"Well, I trust you."

For the millionth time, I was stunned by the honesty in her words and the smile she graced me with.

"I warned you, don't smile at me like that in situations like these because I won't have the choice but the break your trust." I tell her.

My hand went up behind her head and gently pushed her head lower to kiss her.

It was slow and sweet, but it ended too fast. Maddie pulled away, evidently shocked from what I did.

"I warned you." I tell her, grinning that I've won.
