#3: Surviving The Rumours

Haneul loved Karasuno High because it was a small school. Now, she hated it for that same reason.

The official club lists had been posted on the bulletin boards in the halls, with the names of the official members, and ever since then, Haneul had been the talk of the first years, because her name was listed "Kazama Haneul: manager, player".

Haneul sat in the back of the bus, sighing at the thought of having to listen to all the gossip. All she wanted was a quiet high school experience. Why did this have to happen?

"Kazama-chan, good morning," said Tadashi, making his way towards her, Kei behind him. She gently bowed and smiled, "Good morning." Both of them sat at her left side, with Kei being right aside her.

It turned out that Haneul took the same bus route as Kei and Tadashi, so they walked together to and from school. Haneul thought it was great they accompanied her, while Tadashi and Kei worried more for her walking alone at night.

"Did you read Romeo and Juliet?" "Ahh! Was that for today?!" Haneul smiled as Tadashi freaked out over his unfinished homework. "What did you have to do?" She asked, leaning forward to be able to see Tadashi. "Just read and explain the prologue," Kei answered coldly.

Tadashi started to freak out even more as he realized he had left his book at home. "I can help," Haneul blushed, "I-I know the whole prologue..." Tadashi smiled wildly, taking out his notebook and signaling her to start. By the time she had begun to recite and explain, Kei took out his notebook also to change some of his facts.

Once they made it to the school, the trio headed directly to the club room, a little surprised to see people hanging about the bottom of the stairs. Most of them were girls, making Haneul slightly worried.

The three of them ignored them and walked up the stairs, just talking about classes and assignments due, until one of the girls went down the stairs, bumping into Kei and Haneul, whispering "wh*re" in her ear and giggling down the stairs.

Did she hear right? Haneul looked at Kei momentarily, whom showed no signs of emotion, then continued to walk up the stairs. Kei opened the door to the club room, and since no one was inside, he said, "Go change, Kazama-san." The brunette nodded and took their changing bags for them, taking them inside.

While she changed, Kei looked down at the group of girls that were now laughing while walking in the directionof the gym. Once she was changed, Haneul thanked them once again and walked down the stairs. She was making mental notes on what to bring to the camp, as well as what to cook, when one of the girls called at her.

"Hey, foreigner!" Haneul turned around to look at the group of six girls that were calling her. Upon closer inspection, she realized some of them were her classmates. She bowed a little, and greeted them. "D-did you, u-um, need s-something?"

The girls laughed, making Haneul a little uncomfortable. "Are you gay?" The question took Haneul by surprise, but before she could even give an answer, another girl spoke. "Either you're gay or a total wh*re. I mean, why join the boy's team when there's already a girl's team?" The group laughed, making Haneul a little said. "N-no, It-it's not like that at all-"

"And look at her! Showing all that," the first girl motioned to her shorts, circling around Haneul. "What a wh*re." The group started laughing at her again, with one of them slightly pushing her. Haneul couldn't do anything about that. They were all taller than she was, and way stronger. They all towered around her, until they heard someone approaching.

"What are you doing?" It was Kei and Tadashi, along with Daichi and Sugawara. Great timing. Haneul signed them for help with her eyes, which Sugawara caught. "Oh! We're just encouraging her! She's the first and only girl to make it in a boy's club, so we want to give her our love and support! Right, girls?" The rest of the girls nodded with smiles.

"That's great! But we're going to be late for practice, so if you'll excuse us," Sugawara smiled, taking Haneul by the hand and walking away with her. "Something tells me they weren't really supporting you," Daichi said, putting his hands in his pockets. "E-tto... Well... They, um-" "They called her a 'call girl', but, you know, in another word," Kei interrupted.

They all looked at her, surprised. "Don't worry about it! I-I'll just talk to the sensei..." Haneul blurted out, not wanting them to get involved in anything.  Daichi crossed his arms, "You better."

Everything slowly went to hell after the morning practice. The girls caught up to her on her way out of practice, and called her names and commented on her inappropriately all the way to the classroom.

Once there, even the boys looked at her smirking and what not. Haneul couldn't wrap her head around it. What was so wrong about playing in a boys' team? Wasn't it supposed to scream "WOMEN EMPOWERMENT!" or something positive like that?

Oh, right. It's Japan.

Haneul mentally grimaced. She had forgotten how different Japan was from other countries. From being pretty conservative, to an underdeveloped country for women in general. Haneul took her seat the moment Takeda walked inside to greet the class. It was going to be a long day.

Haneul smiled, rapidly taking care of her stuff once the last bell rang. She wanted to get out of that classroom as soon as possible. Thank the heavens that it was the first day of training camp, so she didn't have to see everyone in a week. Taking her bag in hand, Haneul left the classroom rapidly, speed walking to the club room.

Since she was early, she got changed rapidly and went to wait for Kiyoko at the gym, starting to set up for the boys. She smiled, singing softly a korean song she loved while putting up the net.

Daichi and Sugawara were the first ones to arrive, and at the right time, too, since she was struggling to put up the net. "Thank you," she said as they fixed it. "No problem, kohai~" Sugawara smiled, patting her head. "Kazama-chan, did you talk with Takeda-sensei?" Daichi asked, crossing his arms.

Haneul fidgeted with her fingers, "I forgot..." "You forgot?!" The duo exclaimed, making her flinch. "I came here to avoid my classmates, too... I'm sorry..." Daichi looked at Haneul, who looked so small as she tried to cower in herself. She now was hugging herself, and looked down at the floor. Sugawara felt bad about yelling earlier.

"I'll tell him for you," Daichi sighed, making her look at him with her bright eyes. "You will?" He nodded, "Don't worry about it." "Kazama-chan, if anyone messes with you," Sugawara made a pose, showing off his muscles, "Your senpais will protect you." That made her blush and smile.

Kiyoko soon stopped by, and she bid farewell to her senpais before leaving. "I'll see you all later," she smiled and bowed, then left. Haneul walked quietly behind Kiyoko, smiling as the third year went over what they had to do.

Once in the training quarters, Kiyoko and Haneul divided their tasks, but before going to work, they put on some music on the speakers. Ofcourse, they decided on Swedish pop group ABBA. Haneul's job was to set up the sleeping mattresses on the proper rooms, so she soon got to it.

Four songs later, she joined Kiyoko in the kitchen. She told Haneul to make dessert if she wanted to, since almost everything was done. Takeda then soon came inside and helped set the table for the boys, who were soon to arrive. "Ah, Kazama-chan, did you put towels in the bathrooms?" Kiyoko asked, turning to her. "I forgot! I'll do that now," the brunette said, placing the tray with the treats on the counter to cool off.

While skipping down the hallway, Haneul sang to the song that currently blared through the speakers. "... Tonight the super trooper beams are gonna blind me, but I wont feel blue, like I always do, 'cause somewhere in the crowd there's you..." She made it to the big closet where the towels were and went to place it in the bathrooms.

Still thinking the boys weren't there yet, she continued to sing along the next song that came up, while skipping along the hallway. Even with the events of earlier, she was in a very happy mood. "... You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life, oohh, see that girl? Watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen..."

Her biggest fear was realized when she bumped right into Kei, causing her to fall on her butt. "Weren't you the dancing queen?" He smirked, causing her to blush as red as a tomato. "Stop it, Tsuki! You're embarrassing her!" Tadashi helped her up, but she just stood there, paralyzed, as the others circled around her. "You're voice is really pretty, Kazama-chan!" Asahi said, smiling. Tanaka and Nishinoya watched her in awe, thinking it was cute her sudden display of talent.

"U-um, I think we broke her," Ennoshita said, seeing as Haneul closed her eyes, with her head down, and even her ears were red at this point. "Don't be embarrassed, Kazama-chan! Let's get you to the kitchen..." Keishin took her by the shoulders and guided her away.

Once in the kitchen, she stopped the music from playing from her phone through bluetooth, and proceeded to frost the now warm treats she had made, then put them in the freezer.

She served the food for the others as they entered, not daring to look at them yet. She served her own food, and set it at the end of the table, but Haneul got a phone call and went outside to take it.

"That was so cute~" Sugawara commented once she left. "Right?!" Tanaka and Nishinoya said with stars in their eyes. "She was so excited," Ennoshita chuckled. "What? What did she do?" Takeda asked, and Keishin explained, making him laugh. "That reminds me, before she comes back," Daichi started, then proceeded to tell everyone what had happened earlier. "I see..." Takeda said, deep in thought.

"I haven't really told any of you, but Kazama-chan moved here just a few days ago. I made her a manager because, other that Kiyoko needed help, the other clubs were already full, and it was mandatory for her," Takeda explained. Everyone nodded. "She's been fostered by her uncle, so please, if any of you see her in a pinch, try to help. She's still getting used to Japan."

"Yes, sensei!" Tanaka exclaimed, lighting the mood. Haneul entered the room afterwards, and sat down to eat. Instead of the usual "itadakimasu", she bowed her head and closed her eyes, whispering something in korean before grabbing her fork. Yes, fork.

"Kazama-chan? You don't have chopsticks," Nishinoya called out. Kageyama, who was at her right side, looked at her with his cheeks full of food. "A-ah, I don't know how to use chopsticks. Please excuse me," Haneul apologized and ate with them.

Once everyone was done eating, Hinata and Kageyama were practically about to pass out on the table. "I made dessert..." with those words, Haneul woke up the whole team, who looked at her with stars in their eyes. She smiled shyly, and got out of the fridge some trays. She had made small strawberry shortcakes.

She gave one to each of them, and sat down to eat her own. Everyone complimented her on them, with Tanaka and Nishinoya overreacting, crying at her baking skills. She noticed Kei ate his a little too fast, but shook it off. Kiyoko told the third years to go take a bath while the second years and first years helped clean up.

The small brunette took the plates in her hands, and Tadashi offered to help her. "Are you staying with Kiyoko-san?" He asked, opening the black garbage bag for her. "No, I'm staying here," she said, barely over a murmur. "Eh?! Really, Kazama-chan?!" Nishinoya heard, and Tanaka's eyes turned to stars. She nodded. "Yeah... I-I don't want to bother Kiyoko-senpai..."

After they were done cleaning and the first years had bathed, it was her turn.

Haneul stripped of her clothing, looking at herself in the mirror. She sighed, gently caressing the purple and green bruises on her torso, and removing some bandaid from small cuts. The brunette then stepped under the running water of the shower, and proceeded to cry her heart out, careful to not be heard by anyone.

The phone call she had received earlier, she had expected it, but not at the magnitude she did. Her une called her and insulted her over the phone, sending her remarks and threats. He appeared to have been drunk, but she knew some of the threats he had said would come true.

After a while of being there, Haneul washed her hair and soon exited the bathroom, wearing a pair of pink shorts and a strawberry t-shirt. She braided her wet hair and walked to the first year room, but stopped on the way to check on the others.

Haneul placed the covers over Asahi, then in the second year room, moved Nishinoya's limbs to stay inside the mattress. In the first years, she had a real struggle. Kei had fallen asleep with his glasses and headphones on, so she took them off him and placed them in a corner of the room. She did the same thing to Hinata as Nishinoya, and properly tucked in Tadashi and Kageyama. Finally, she played in her mattress and fell asleep.
