#25: The Threat of The "Left"

"Ahh, so this is the finals? There're so many people..." Tanaka murmured as he walked aside Nishinoya. "Ryu, this is no time to be scared!" The small libero said sternly, only to continue with, "Listen, Ryu. Picture this: The finals. Our opponents are Shiratorizawa. What do you think is going to happen when we play to a crowd this big?" A group of girls walked nearby, and both boys started to daydream about having them cheer for them.

Meanwhile, Haneul was walking, holding hands with Kei, only for them to be stopped by reporters before they entered the court to warm up. "Miss Kazama! How does it feel being the only female in the court today?" "Miss Kazama, how do you keep up with the boys' training?" Tons of questions were being sent her way, and Kei could tell she was getting uncomfortable. He wrapped an arm around her and made his way through the press, making it to the court.

Inside, everyone began to panic way too much, and Haneul thought it was funny. "Ne, ne, calm down! It's not the end of the world!" The brunette said, trying to calm them down. "That's not going to help," Kei chuckled, holding a volleyball. He saw her smile and look at the bleachers, and he turned too, with Haneul exclaiming, "Akiteru-niichan!" and waiving. He tried to hide from Kei, but he had already seen him.

The Shiratorizawa cheer team started, scaring Haneul in the process. She saw the others on edge, so she rapidly thought of a solution as they spoke, and she began chanting, "K-A-R-A-S-S-U-N-O! Ka-ra-su-no!" She caused them to smile and laugh a little, but then they saw their opponents arrive on the court, led by their captain, Ushijima.

They started to warm up, and Haneul watched Ushijima intently. He spiked and the ball made its way to the bleachers. Tanaka asked Hinata and Kageyama to do their quick attack to intimidate the opposing team, and then asked Haneul to spike. She looked at Kageyama, who nodded and set for her. Everyone was amazed she could spike that well and jump as high, knowing that the net for men is set higher than in women's matches.

Soon after their warm up, the opening ceremony took place. Haneul stood nervously aside Tadashi, who smiled at her from time to time. She cheered for the starting lineup as they were introduced, smiling brightly. "You know, even if 13 is considered unlucky, you sure bring us lots of luck," Tadashi smiled at her as the ceremony ended and they walked to the bench.

Their strategy was to make Haneul watch Nishinoya receive Ushijima's spikes, so she could analyze the best position to counter his left-handedness. She watched as he failed to get the ball up in the air, but was confused as to why. He had received it perfectly, so why did it not go up? "Ha-chan, you look so scary," Sugawara chuckled. The brunette had her hand on her chin and seamed to be glaring at the court. "Ah, sorry."

They seamed way too stiff, causing Sugawara and Haneul to yell at them. "Calm down! There's no time to self-destruct! What the hell are you so nervous about?! The TYV crews?!" "Quit messing around and play already!" The referee glared at them, with Daichi telling them to calm down. "Get used to it, Noya!" Haneul exclaimed to him as the next rally ended in a point for Shiratorizawa.

Finally, Tanaka made a point with a spike, but later the technical time out was called. Haneul cheered for the team along with the others in the bench, and Nishinoya slowly was getting used to the line shots. Haneul noticed then that the ball rotated a different way and directing because Ushijima was left handed, and when the time out was called, informed him. Tadashi mentioned that he jammed his finger, so she went over to wrap it for him. When she was done, she gave him a kiss on his finger and smiled, "You've got this, Kei."

The blond smiled at her and ruffled her hair, "Thank you, Haneul." The time out was soon over, but everyone was still on edge, with Ushijima being up to serve. Daichi tried getting it, but it landed out of the court. Sugawara was trying to hold back his laugh as Haneul mimicked Nishinoya's stance and tried to move like him. Ennoshita joined his senior soon after, but they knew what she was really trying to do. Haneul moved and positioned her arms like the other libero, and everyone was amazed as he received the ball and it went up.

Thanks to Kageyama and Tanaka, they managed to get a point, getting some momentum going. Soon, it was 18-09, with Sugawara being switched back out. Thanks to a serve, Karasuno gained another point, and with Kageyama serving barely inside the line, they got another point. Haneul watched intently at the match until Shiratorizawa took the first set. The brunette then helped move their things to the other side of the court before speaking to Nishinoya.

During the pep talk Keishin gave, he asked Haneul if she could go in. "I think I've got it," she smiled, and Nishinoya put an arm around her shoulder, "We need her. She'll do great!" They then proceeded to go inside the court, with Kei, Asahi and Daichi at front and Kageyama, Tanaka and Haneul in the back line.

Daichi received the first ball, and they then proceeded to do a synchronized attack. Daichi then served and the ball went over, with the opponent going for a spike, and Haneul being unable to get to it. Compared to Nishinoya, she isn't as fast and her reflexes aren't the best, but she calculates her moves with accuracy.

In the next rally, Haneul tried to receive again, but the ball flew outwards. She cursed under her breath before they handed the ball over, and Tanaka received a spike with his face, gaining them a point. Haneul laughed, looking at the score to see that they were catching up. She switched with Shoto, cheering for him until he was completely shut down by a red haired player.

Meanwhile, Nishinoya patted her in the back, holding back a sly smile as he accidentally touched one of her bra straps by accident. He told her she was doing great, but just then, Hinata was shut down again. Haneul then went inside the court, and when she saw the red haired guy go to block Hinata, she tried saving the ball, but she was too late. "Faster... I have to be faster..." Haneul murmured to herself, but Takeda called a time out.

Oddly enough to Keishin, Haneul didn't drink anything, and instead was trying to stay in motion while looking at the court. He didn't say anything, only looking momentarily at Kei, who had noticed. The blond blocker went on to give her a water bottle, and after a little convincing, he got her to steady herself and drink it.

Haneul went on to stand aside her boyfriend as Keishin gave them a pep-talk and a briefing. She was a little uneasy, as the camera man appeared to be aiming the device directly at her, rather than at the whole team. However, her uneasiness was lifted away as Tadashi asked, "What do we need to do in order for him not to read the blocks? Does that mean Kageyama's going to have to do the crazy feints that Hinata does, too?" This caused her to chuckle, and amusing Kei.

Back in the court, she cheered as Kageyama used Hinata way too fast and got the team a point. The next rally, Haneul managed to get the balls sent her way, and helped in getting the next point. Kageyama was up to serve first, with Asahi receiving. Haneul cursed at herself as she wasn't able to get the spike from Ushijima, causing them a point. The game went on, and Ushijima scored another point, getting on Haneul's nerves.

Kei switched in just at the right time, and with Haneul saving the serve, Kei blocked a time lag attack. However, in the next rally, the opponent got a point. Ever so steadily, they were catching up, until Haneul switched with Hinata, and Sugawara was called inside. Haneul was watching intently from the sidelines, chuckling when she saw how Tadashi was looking at Keishin with desire to step in the court.

Soon, Shiratorizawa got into the 20 point mark, but the next rally, they were tied. Tadashi was finally switched in, but was immediately switched out, because Ushijima scored a point. "You did great, Tadashi-kun," Haneul said, giving him a pat in the back. She then looked at the bench of the opposing team, hearing the red headed blocker sing something really weird. "Baki Baki ni ore, nani wo? Kokoro wo da yo~ Konagona nu kudake, nani wo? Seishin wo da yo~"

Takeda called a time out, and Keishin gave them a pep talk. Before the time was up, he asked if Haneul was okay, only for her to nod and smile. She watched the team's plays from the bench, until she was switched in again. Thanks to Kei's block timing, Haneul was able to receive Ushijima's spike on the first try, thanks to Nishinoya. Then, Kageyama set to Kei, who spiked a point. The teams were now 22-22, and the battle had just begun.

"Haneul! Nice receive!" Daichi exclaimed, causing her to smile at him. "It was only possible because of the narrow gap," she looked at the three blockers and smiled. "WOOHOO! WAY TO GO, HA-CHAN!" Nishinoya exclaimed from the bench. Asahi went to serve, gaining a point and creating a breakthrough. The opposing team gained a point, and Ushijima went to serve. In this rally, the setter went for a dump, which went unnoticed by everyone.

Haneul went to get the ball Kei had tried to save, but it was futile. "Sorry, it probably would've been easier for you to save if I hadn't touched it," Kei said, helping her up. "No, no, I probably wouldn't have been able to get it anyways!" Haneul frantically waved her arms around, then putting them on the back of her head. She went back into her position and got ready for the next rally.

Ushijima served again, with Daichi receiving the ball. Kei set for Tanaka, whom got a point with a block out. Thanks to this point, they were now in a deuce. Haneul switched with Hinata and watched as Kageyama scored a point with a feint. "Nice, Kageyama!" Haneul yelled from the stands. Now the team was at set point, but the opposing team quickly gained a point.

She watched intently as well with the others how they tried to get the point, managing to score one by setting to Tanaka once again. Due to this, Shiratorizawa took their first time out.

Afterwards, it seamed none of the teams could get the lead with the two points. Haneul chewed on her thumb as she watched the others play. "Concentrate!" she exclaimed as the next rally started, gaining a point thanks to Hinata and Kageyama's quick attack. Tanaka served right when Haneul entered the court, and her arms were now glowing red from how many of Ushijima's spikes she had received.

Haneul left the court after that, seeing Hinata serve. They were behind by a point, but Kei went on to keep blocking for Ushijima, with Hinata saving a one touch, and it being sent to Kageyama, whom set to Hinata, making a break through. "You're doing great, Kei!" Haneul exclaimed from the sidelines.

Even so, Ushijima hit higher than the block, causing them a point. Haneul was on her toes as Karasuno scored another point and she was sent in once again. She harshly received one of Ushijima's spikes, then when the ball was sent to Ushijima again, Kei managed to block it and stop him, taking back the second set. "Yeah!" Kei exclaimed, with Haneul going over and jumping on him. "You're so great, Kei!" The brunette exclaimed, causing him to blush.

They went outside of the court to move their things out to the other side when Keishin and Takeda called her apart from the others. "Kazama-chan, your arms look like they hurt a lot," Takeda said with a worried expression on his face. She showed them her arms and finally noticed how red they had gotten from receiving. "It looks like it's gonna leave  a mark... Does this hurt?" Keishin proceeded to take her arm and lightly press in the middle of her forearm. Haneul winced at the pain, and Takeda told her to sit out the next set.

Kiyoko gave her an ice pack, and when the next set started, she was seated at the bench to rest while holding the pack to her arms. Nishinoya was playing in her stead, and thanks to him observing her, he was doing pretty good, but Shiratorizawa had the lead, and the libero was getting annoyed. Sadly, Shiratorizawa took the third set, making them take the lead.

Nishinoya kept playing instead, and after Keishin's pep talk, the fourth set started. They got the first point thanks to a bad serve, and continued to play. They were head to head, and both teams played amazingly. Haneul was on her toes watching along with the coaches when the synchronized attack was stopped. "Daichi's stance gave it away," Haneul mentioned, gaining a nod from Keishin.

The rallies continued with the same momentum, with them gaining point by point. Ushijima was up to serve again, and it was quite annoying. "Huh?! Is he Mr. Perfect or something?" Sugawara said, clearly a bit pissed, causing Haneul to chuckle. The rally continued with Kei landing a point, and one could feel that this match would be different.

Haneul watched as Hinata jumped around, feeling tired just looking at him. Tanaka gained a point, and with it they were in the lead of the set. "All of our hard work is showing fruits," the brunette said, smiling. Keishin and Takeda gave her a soft look, happy that the young girl had come this far.

Going head to head, Haneul and the others cheered as Nishinoya set for Asahi to gain a point. The libero was doing great, and along with Hinata's attacks and blocks in the front line, they were gaining momentum. They switched Hinata with Tadashi, and Kei went in. Hinata sat aside Haneul, and both of them cheered as Kageyama set for Kei at a half person tempo, gaining a point.

After a small time out with Haneul gushing over her boyfriend, Tadashi was up to serve again with a net ball, but Ushijima's spike still broke through. "Why are you glaring at Ushijima?" Hinata asked Haneul, chuckling. The girl shook her head and nervously blushed. "S-sorry." Daichi went to serve again, with Ushijima once again breaking through.

Both teams were now in a deuce, and one could tell how exhausted they were. By now, Haneul was finding the Shiratorizawa cheering team really annoying. She, as well as everyone else, was at the edge of her seat as rally after rally they ended up head to head. Thanks to Nishinoya, they managed to get Ushijima's serve up, and with a two person block, managed to stop a spike and get to match point.

Haneul told Hinata, "Go win this!" and then pushed him in the court. Sugawara was set to serve this rally, and thanks to an out by part of their middle blocker, they were now at match point. Kageyama then served, getting a chance ball, but Kageyama set with a short ball. Hinata, instead of panicking, hit the ball with his left hand, gaining a point. The orange haired boy then went on to bother the dark setter for praise, which he gave in his gloomy way.

"They caught up! 아싸!!" Haneul got up and exclaimed, accidentally dropping her ice pack. She bent down to pick it up, and helped Kiyoko move the things over to the other side. She laughed when Sugawara freaked out after Kiyoko held his hand, and instead went to cheer up the first years.

When the match started, Asahi managed to score the first point, giving them a moral advantage. Even so, Shiratorizawa quickly caught up, increasing the pressure. Nishinoya then set for the others in a synchronized attack, with Sugawara spiking instead. "Way to go, Koushi-senpai!" Haneul cheered, seeing them in the lead.

Asahi served up a point, and afterwards it was stolen by Ushijima yet again. He as well gained his team another point with his serve, and later afterwards with a spike. "He's a monster," Haneul murmured under her breath, causing Kiyoko to chuckle. "Yeah, but our team is full of them," the ravenette said, and they looked back to see them working together, but even so, Shiratorizawa was in the lead.

In a matter of seconds, everything they had build up, all that momentum and pressure was shattered. Haneul's eyes widened as she saw something was wrong with Kei's hand. When Takeda called a time out, she rushed in to see he had cut his hand, and his pinky finger looked really bad. "It must have been cut when you touched Ushijima's spike," Keishin said, then looked at Narita, telling him to take his place. Haneul gave him a towel and help dab the blood off. "Kiyoko, take him to the infirmary. Haneul go with them, and get your wounds checked up too," Keishin ordered and she nodded affirmatively before leaving with the two.

By the look on his face, Kei seamed to be in a lot of pain, but tried to disguise it when he saw Yachi and Akiteru approach them. "Don't worry. You won't have to go back to see them loose," Kiyoko said, leading the way to the infirmary. Akiteru revealed that he didn't know Haneul was injured as well, but the reason she was also sent out was because her bruises were now bloated.

In a matter of seconds, a camera crew appeared to film her walk back to the infirmary, but Yachi and Akiteru called them off. They were asking unnecessary questions like, "Is that all you're going to play?" "What kind of injuries do you have?" "Are you going to keep on playing in the male division after this?" It was getting on her nerves and making her feel terrible even after the crew had left.

There was only one nurse in the infirmary, and Haneul told Kei to get treated first. "But your injuries look pretty bad, Hannie," Kei said, looking at her with a soft gaze. "You're the one that's bleeding! Don't be dumb!" Kiyoko and Akiteru chuckled, and Kei gave her a sheepish grin before going inside the room.

The cheers of the schools could even be heard in the hallway as Shiratorizawa started chanting their school's hymn. "I thought they couldn't get more annoying," Haneul said, breaking the silence in the hall and making Yachi chuckle. "However, as long as I can hear them, it means the match isn't over," she smiled. After a little bit more of waiting, Kei, Akiteru and Kiyoko burst out of the infirmary. "The bleeding has stopped. They immobilized the part that was dislocated rock hard, and because it was my pinky, it'll affect my play extremely little," Kei explained, moving in place.

This caused Haneul to smile and said, "Then go explain that to Keishin! Go!" The blond nodded with a smile and ran off to the entrance of the court, followed by the others. Then, Haneul went inside the infirmary. "AH! Right, Ha-chan!" Yachi exclaimed, stopping in her tracks. "It's fine! Go on ahead!" Haneul said, nd the blonde girl nodded, getting back to the cheering team in the stands.

Haneul rapidly entered the room, and sat down in front of the nurse. "Oh? You're that female player. Tell me, what can I do for you?" The kind man said. She showed her arms to him, and he frowned. "I received Shiratorizawa's ace's spikes a lot, and my da- I mean, my coach made me sit out when he saw how red they had gotten. I put ice on them, but it didn't seam to work..." The short libero explained, and the nurse stood to get some bandages from the cabinet.

"Your arms swelled up and bruised up because he hits too hard. This isn't a category I recommend you playing on, due to your small physique," he mentioned getting something else from another place. "It hasn't happened before though. Just today," the brunette frowned. "Ah, in that case, it's just the ace's fault. Seams he hit the ball a little extra hard for you."

The nurse proceeded to apply some cream on both of her arms, then bandaged them pretty tightly. "I don't think I have to tell you, but you can't play today with these bruises. Make sure to put ice on them when you get home." Haneul stood and gave him a bow before leaving, making it in time at the end of a time out, where the score was 15-16, with Karasuno at match point.

"It's our lucky charm!" Nishinoya exclaimed as Haneul stepped in, being surrounded by everyone so she could give them her "words of wisdom", according to Tanaka. "Ah, well... We're smaller, and our individual attack strength falls short in comparison to that of Shiratorizawa, but with all six in the court, I'm certain you will win. Our concept hasn't changed, and it certainly won't change in the future, because we are young and reckless in the best way! Now go punch your way through our old and dependable opponent!"

"YEAH!" Everyone yelled like crazy, and they marched over to the court. Keishin saw her arms all bandaged up, reminding him of when she was first in the hospital, but tried to ignore such memories and focus on the match. Haneul sat aside him, watching as Ushijima went up to serve, only for it to land outside. Kei was up to serve now, and she watched intently as Hinata and Tanaka didn't get the timing right for their block, causing Shiratorizawa to gain a point thanks to Ushijima.

In the next rally, Karasuno gained the point back, and Kageyama was up to serve again. Everyone's voices were getting hoarse from yelling so much, but even so, they kept up fighting. Every time they gained the lead, Shiratorizawa would get a point back. The brunette could see how tired everyone was, and how their legs were most likely were beginning to give up. "Come on, guys! You can do it!!!" Haneul exclaimed, lucky charm in hand. This gave them a boost of confidence, with Karasuno gaining a point thanks to Nishinoya saving two balls.

Hinata went up to serve, and it was all as if Haneul could see it in slow motion. Their opponent set up a spike, but Kei managed to make a one-touch with his read blocking. Kageyama managed to set the ball to Hinata, making a minus tempo back attack. Ushijima received it, and spiked, but Hinata saved it, sending it back. Then, Karasuno set up a three person block for a straight, only for Ushijima to hit it towards Kageyama, whom saved it. Asahi, Daichi and Tanaka helped keep the ball in the air, managing to give it to Kageyama.

Hinata then blended in with the crowd for a synchronized attack, and Kageyama set for him. With this, he managed to gain a point, and win the whole match. The stadium was silent for a few seconds, with Haneul yelling at the top of her lungs, "WE DID IT!!!"

The brunette ran towards her boyfriend as fast as she could, with him picking her up by the waist with ease and spinning her around. "You did it, Kei! Oh my God, you were amazing, and that last block was so- so- so wow!" The blond blocker laughed at his girlfriend's lack of vocabulary, but loved the look of excitement on her face.

Afterwards, Haneul lined up with the others, shaking hands with their opponents. The awards ceremony then would begin once they took down the net, so they went off to cool down and walk around. Keishin called Kei the MVP of this match, making Haneul smile.

The libero then stood next to Kageyama and Hinata to take a picture of the scoreboard for an Instagram post when a voice interrupted them. "Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio of the concrete... And Kazama Hanuru the girl." The trio turned around to find Ushijima standing there, saying, "I'll defeat you next time." "I'll make sure I'll be able to stand on the same level as you!" "I'll make you say that I'm better than Oikawa-san!" Haneul watched as the two said those things, only for her to sheepishly say, "U-um, I'll make sure to receive your spikes without bruising..." The giant man turned away and left, with her feeling super embarrassed.

Later on, the awards ceremony started, concluding the Miyagi Prefecture Qualifiers. "And now, I present this award to the victors: Miyagi Prefectural Karasuno High School. Concluding the Miyagi Prefecture Qualifiers of the National High School Spring Volleyball Tournament, your team has emerged victorious. I present you this award in acknowledgement of your commendable performance." The mayor the handed Daichi a certificate, and to Sugawara the big trophy. Then, he went on to put the medals on everyone before the announcement lady continued.

"To praise both teams for their good match, to wish the best to Karasuno High School for their performance, and thank their team mates Kazama Haneul and Yamaguchi Tadashi for representing Miyagi Prefecture musically in the National High School Spring Volleyball Tournament Opening Competition, I'd like to ask the audience to give them another big round of applause."

~~~
"EEEEHHHH!? Why is Yamaguchi going with you?!" Tanaka, Nishinoya, Hinata and Sugawara asked the sleepy brunette. "Because he has talent. And I couldn't enter the competition alone," Haneul responded. They were all eating at a restaurant before getting back home. Tadashi nodded, being sat at her left side. "Yup! We're leaving for Tokyo in about a week." The first years exclaimed how that was pretty cool, while Tanaka and Nishinoya argued that they indeed had musical knowledge and skill.
~~~

The next day, everything was completely different. Once again, the girls that used to bully her were now constantly glaring at Haneul, but she didn't notice in the array of people gathered around her desk and asking questions. Most of them were just wanting to get with her to travel to Tokyo. "Hannie!" "Ha-chan!" she heard two peculiar voices call her, and she looked over to the door to see Kei and Tadashi standing there, waiting for her. "Coming!"

The brunette stood up, looking at Yachi, whom was sketching their new volleyball poster. "Hitoka-chan, are you sure you don't need any help?" "Oh! No, I'm alright, thanks. Plus, you need to prepare to leave for Tokyo. I'll see you later!" The blonde smiled, and then the libero went off with her boyfriend and best friend.

They had to get a bunch of paperwork ready, since they were going to leave for two weeks to a performance camp, then to come back and get ready for the real competition in late November. However, it was only her and Tadashi. Keishin couldn't go with them due to his job, so his cousin, Ari, was going to be looking after them, because she worked for the entertainment company that was going to host the camp. Surely, it was going to be an interesting two months.
