#2: Part of The Team
The next practice, Haneul showed up a little late, rushing into the gym. "I'm sorry! The bus was late," she huffed to Takeda, who tells her it's fine.
Haneul finishes tying her hair and makes her way inside the court, just as Daichi announced a spike practice. Due to her still being on the court, one of Tanaka's spikes went directly towards her.
However, to everyone's surprise, Haneul recieved the spike before it could hit her. "S-sorry!" She exclaimed, going to retrieve it.
Everyone just stood, trying to process what they had all just witnessed. It was silent for a while, until Nishinoya and Hinata started laughing at Tanaka. "DID YOUR SPIKE JUST GET RECEIVED BY A GIRL?!"
Tanaka yelled at then to shut up, while Haneul walked back with the ball. Keishin stopped her on her way, and asked, "Kazama-chan, you know how to play volleyball?" The bright eyed girl nodded, blushing. "Um, yeah.... Why?"
Keishin asked her since when did she play and which position, and Haneul threw the ball she was holding at Kiyoko before answering, "In elementary, I played, um..." she racked her brain for the right word, "W-windspiker... Yes, I was a windspiker. When I m-moved to middle school, I was a Libero. Oh! Um, I stopped playing after f-first year of middle school..."
Kaishin let her go and thought while watching them practice. They had two setters, plenty of windspikers and middle blockers. What they were missing was an extra Libero on their team, and Haneul just seemed to have waltzed in at the right time.
Haneul thought nothing of the conversation, and kept helping the team and Kiyoko during the practice, until it was time to get changed for class. While walking up the stairs to get changed, she smiled shyly at the boys that stood outside their club room: Tadashi, Ennoshita and Asahi.
"Oh, Kazama-chan, what happened to your cheek?" Tadashi asked, gaining a look of confusion from the small girl. She moved to the nearest window and saw that her right cheek was now bruising up. She rapidly turned to the boys, saying, "O-oh! I-it's nothing! I just, um, fell down the stairs! At home!"
"A-are you okay?!" Asahi rapidly asked, and Haneul blushed, nodding. "Yeah! I'm very clumsy..." She laughed dryly. Haneul waited in silence as the others finished changing so she could change, since Kiyoko left early. Once inside the club room, she took a proper look in the mirror and covered the bruise with a patch.
As time went by, Haneul found herself in a daze. She had a two hour long English class, due to being in class 4: the top college prep class.
She knew all that the sensei was teaching, and had already caught up with her missed work from enrolling late. She stared out the window that led through the hallway with a sad expression, hoping something more interesting would happen, but nothing did.
After eight long, painfully slow hours, it was finally club time. Haneul made her way to the gym, getting to change first and actually get there early, and stumbling into Keishin. "Kazama-chan, I have something to ask of you..." he said, scratching the back of his head.
"E-eh?!" Haneul squealed, blushing. She couldn't believe what he was asking of her. "Listen! There's no rule saying a girl can't play in a boy's team! And you have the skills, like when you received one of Tanaka's spikes this morning," Keishin explained, putting his hands together and closing his eyes, begging to Haneul, "Please, please consider."
The petite brunette put a hand on his, making him open his eyes. "I-I'll do it i-if the others are okay with it..." She blushed, looking to the side. Keishin smirked at her. He helped her get the court ready for when the team arrived, and Haneul received thanks from Daichi and Sugawara for setting everything up.
"Thank you, Ka-chan~!" Sugawara smiled, causing her to blush. "I- um, it's really no problem!" She watched as Keishin talked with them both, since Daichi was the captain and Sugawara the vice captain of the team. They all momentarily glanced at her from across the room, giving her chills.
Once everyone arrived amd were all warmed up, they had a sit meeting. Keishin had spoken with Kiyoko and Takeda as well, so there wouldn't be any confusion. Haneul sat on the floor aside Kiyoko, slightly nervous. She fidgeted with them hem of her shorts in anticipation.
"I have something to ask of you," Keishin started, catching everyone's attention, "Would it be okay if Haneul practiced with all of you? As part of the team?" This question caught everyone off guard, with Nishinoya and Tanaka overreacting as usual. "Ahem! Now, it's not official, but maybe Haneul could be our extra Libero on the team. It's only if you all are okay with it. So?"
There was a silent in the room, which was a little unsettling for Haneul. However, she noticed that they were all looking at Nishinoya. It was obvious: he was the current Libero on the team. Of course he had the first say. The small Libero smiled, and looked at Haneul. "Well, it was time I had a pupil anyways."
An just like that, Haneul started practicing with the Karasuno's volleyball team.
