#14: Greed
The next day, in the morning break, she stumbled upon the third years in the hallway. "Haneul-chan! We wanted to talk to you," Daichi said, waiving at her. "Oh, hi," Haneul bowed at them with a small smile, "What do you need?" Asahi looked down at her, and noticed her knees were slightly bruised, and one of them had a bandaid on it. "We heard Kageyama and Hinata actually came to blows and that you were caught in between," Sugawara said, furrowing his brows.
"We wanted to see if you were okay," Daichi concluded, scratching the back of his head. "O-oh, I'm fine," Haneul blushed, "It wasn't a big deal. Besides, what kind of manager would I be if I didn't try to stop them?" "But Haneul-chan, you got hurt," Asahi pointed at her knees, causing the other two to look at her worriedly. "L-like I said, it wasn't a big deal..." "Well, as team captain, I thank you," Daichi said, bowing full 90°, causing people in the hall to stare.
"I-it's fine! B-besides... Don't they fight all the time?" Haneul babbled, blushing. "You're right!" Sugawara smiled, suddenly lightning up. "That's how we know they'll be fine," Daichi said, patting her head. Asahi then asked, "Hey, where are you headed, Ha-chan?" "I'm going to buy yogurt from the vending machine down stairs. See you guys tomorrow!" The brunette smiled shyly and waved at them, heading towards the stairs.
The closest vending machine was aside the gym, so she headed there with a smile on her face. "One for me, and one for Hitoka-chan," Haneul mumbled, smiling as she bought the second cup of strawberry yogurt. She heard a small yelp from the side, and she turned to see Kageyama standing there. It was a bit awkward, since she didn't know what to say to him, until he bowed completely like Daichi had done.
"I'm sorry for hitting you. It was my fault," he said, but Haneul told him to stop. "It's alright. It's kinda my fault for jumping in," she scratched the back of her head nervously. "Are you... okay?" Kageyama asked hesitantly, and the brunette nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine." The raven haired boy stood there pondering for a few seconds, making Haneul wonder what he was thinking.
"C-can you... Accompany me somewhere later?" He looked down, not wanting to look at the girl he hurt in the eyes. "Oh, I have an appointment at six, but if it's before that, I'm sure I can go with you," Haneul switched her weight from her right leg to her left, and Kageyama looked at her with shiny eyes. "Thank you!"
After school, she headed out with Kageyama to a little tykes volleyball practice. "Why here, Tobio-kun?" Haneul asked, going up the steps with him. He explained how his dad was the coach for the kids, and that he didn't want to come alone because he didn't have a great relationship with him.
Then, a kid bumped into him, and Kageyama made him cry. "Tobio-kun, don't just stand there," Haneul scolded, moving him aside gently. She crunched down at the height of the boy and smiled shyly. "Don't cry, little one. He didn't mean to make you cry." The boy then stops crying and nods, walking away with his older brother.
When she got back on her feet, she came face to face with Oikawa. "Oikawa?!" Kageyama yelled, and Haneul smiled at him. "Hello, Oikawa-senpai," she greeted. Oikawa grinned, putting a hand on his hip, but then looked at Kageyama with a smug face.
"What are you doing here?" Kageyama asked, with Oikawa saying he was accompanying his nephew. "'Sup!" "What about practice?" "We almost always get Mondays off." While the two setters talked with each other, Haneul took an interest in Oikawa's nephew. "What's your name?" She asks with a smile. "I'm Takeru! You're friends with my uncle, right? Could you tell him to teach me how to serve?"
"Well, my name is Kazama Haneul. You can call me Kazama. Why don't I teach you how to serve?" Takeru looked at the brunette with big eyes. Before Haneul said anything, Oikawa walked away, calling Takeru to leave. Kageyama called after Oikawa, but the eldest started making faces at him. The dark setter then bowed at him and asked to listen to him. When Oikawa wouldn't stop, Haneul called after him and asked him to listen.
"Takeru, take a picture. Hold this button here," Oikawa instructed the small boy. "Tobio, don't move." Haneul walked towards them and looked weirdly at the duo. "Now I got a pic of Tobio asking me for a favor!" "Uncle Toru, this is a really lame picture," Takeru said, and Haneul laughed. Oikawa looked momentarily at her, then at Tobio.
"Now, what is it? I'm busy here." "You said you were bored because your girlfriend dumped you!" Haneul made a mental note to tell Angelina later. They had been talking for a while now, and would often go out on weekends. Obviously, Angelina told Haneul of her crush on Oikawa, but couldn't really do anything because he had a girlfriend, whom Angelina completely despised.
"Besides, I'm only listening because of Kazama-chan, since she's friends with Angelina. Now out with it." While Kageyama and Oikawa spoke, Haneul turned back to Takeru. "Now, about serving... I can give you some pointers," she said, crouching down to be at his eye level. "Really? You know volleyball, neechan?" Haneul nodded. "I play in a boys team too."
The following minutes, she spent talking to Takeru instead of paying attention to the conversation her friends were having. "You're so cool, neechan!" Haneul blushed and thanked him. She diverted her attention to the setter duo when she heard Oikawa say, "You're every bit the desperate king you were."
The three of them watched as Oikawa passed Kageyama, calling for Takeru. "Bye, neechan," the small kid said before going after his uncle. Haneul took a seat gonna nearby bench, and Kageyama followed. "Based on what Oikawa said, and what you said, I should probably go with it, then," the ravenette said. "Well, it is Hinata's decision at the end..." Haneul murmured.
A few minutes later, Kageyama thanked her for accompanying him, and he didn't need to speak to his dad anymore. He offered to walk her to her appointment, but she told him that she had to go to Keishin's shop first. "I want to see if they're done with the gym inspection," Kageyama said, getting up. And so, they walked together back to the school.
"Bye, Tobio-kun," Haneul waved. "Bye, and thanks." Just as Haneul entered the store, she sees Keishin talking on the phone, agitated. "KAGEYAMA WHERE ARE YOU?!" "He's just outside..." Haneul said, causing the coach to dash out the door. She looked at Tohoku, Keishin's mom, and she just shrugged.
While Keishin explained to Kageyama what he had to do, Haneul handled the cash register with Tohoku. After an explanation, Kageyama bought some milk and then left. "Keishin-san, I have an appointment..." "Right! You're appointment!" He exclaimed as Haneul laughed dryly. He took off his apron and hang it in the back. "Hey ma', can you take over? I'll be back in an hour," Keishin asked while Haneul got out from behind the cash register.
"Of course, dear. Take care of my granddaughter," she smiled at Haneul. "Yes, ma'. Let's go." "Goodbye miss Tohoku," Haneul bowed before leaving. Keishin drove them to the place of her appointment: a small hair salon. It was owned by a friend Keishin knew from high school, so which is why he went with her.
"NOOO!!" Tanaka and Nishinoya ran around the gym, screaming. "Hey! Stop yelling!" Daichi exclaimed, entering the gym with Sugawara and Asahi. They as well froze. Haneul was trying to calm them down and set up the gym for them, which seemed a little impossible at the moment.
Oh, and her long, wavy brown hair was now cut short. Very short. "It looks good, Hanuel-chan," Daichi said, with the chaotic duo kneeling in front of her. "Her long hair," Tanaka said, crying. "It's gone!" Nishinoya said, crying as well. "Why did you cut it?" Asahi asked, tilting his head. "Oh, it's in the rules... They left me off the hook last tournament, but to enter the Nationals, I have to abide by the girl's ethic manual." After a few, coach walked in and called for practice to start.
In the afternoon, she headed home with Kei, who couldn't really get over her change of image. "Do you not like it?" Haneul asked, entering the home. "I do, it's just... Weird," Kei proceeded to touch the ends of her hair, straightening her soft curls and letting them bounce up. He then put his hand on her head and messed her hair up.
