Any Way You Blow Up, That's the Way You Do It
"Hurry up, Lei!" Jake hollers at me, tossing me a motorcycle helmet. "You're with me!" I catch the helmet and put it on. Everyone else is ready, and as soon as I get on Arcee behind Jake and wrap my arms around him to keep from falling off, Optimus Prime goes: "Autobots, let's roll out!" I turn back as we go into the tunnel to see Bumblebee watching us leave. I raise my hand in farewell before we turn a corner and I have to put my arm back around Jake to keep from falling off. The helmets have a built-in comm in them, so I can talk to the team. My other comm is in my backpack, which is tied onto the back of Arcee with Jake's, behind me.
"Alright team. This is Queen Bee. You guys ready?" I ask, settling in for the ride. The blast of wind is exhilarating, and I enjoy it.
"What qualifies as ready?" Hunter's voice says through the comms. The rest of us laugh.
"Good point, Camo," I respond. "You guys got the presents done, I assume?"
"Yep. All 24 of them, plus a couple special ones, just in case," Jake says. I raise my eyebrows, though no one can see me.
"What kind of special ones?" I ask, curious as to what they've prepared.
"You'll just have to wait and see," Hunter says.
"Fine," I roll my eyes. "Keep your secrets."
"There will probably be more security since you guys were there," Cho points out.
"That's true. Can you guys make sure the Autobots are aware of that, so we don't drive into a trap?" I ask. "There will probably be patrols, so be prepared to act fast once we get there." A chorus of "Okay" sounds from the comms.
"Great. Queen Bee out," I say. For the next 30 minutes, I go through our plan in my head, thinking about all the things that can go wrong and trying to figure out ways to deal with those things. We arrive at the spot where we'll be entering the trees, and everyone gets ready for battle.
"Cho and I will scout out the patrols, and report back to you guys. Stay hidden and don't try anything stupid," I tell Jake and Hunter before telling the Autobots. Cho and I are the shortest of our team and the stealthiest. Carefully, we go into the trees, quietly slipping between trees, and lightly jumping over branches. When we're in sight of the crater edge, we meet a patrol. They don't see us, but we see them. As soon as they pass, we start timing how long it takes for the next patrol to come around. A minute and thirty seconds later, they pass again. It's a small window of time, but our presents won't take too long to go off. We sneak back to the group and report what we saw.
"Two guards on patrol, a minute and thirty seconds between rounds," I report once we're back. Optimus gives the signal, and together, we move silently between the trees. When we can see the crater edge, we stop. Carefully, the four of us edge closer until we're feet from the tree edge. As soon as the guards pass us and are a good 15 yards away, we make our move. Grabbing the presents from Hunter's backpack, we run to the edge of the crater and throw them in. 30 seconds later, they sound. They aren't the kind of bombs that go "BOOM!". These make a high pitch noise that knocks out any bot in the range of it. The guards who passed us run back toward us, but they're soon taken care of by our Autobot friends. Running around the edge, we drop presents down the sides by each entrance, making it really hard for any Decepticons to make it up to us. Any that come close to us soon meet the business end of Mr. Blaster. Finally, our work is done. Sliding down into the crater, we check each entrance. Not one Decepticon is moving.
"Yes!" Hunter and Jake yell, giving each other high-fives. I smile.
"Step One complete. Onto Step Two," I say, turning to the Autobots, who are behind us.
"Your turn," I tell them. As one, we go to the main entrance. The other side entrances didn't show anything of interest, so they would get checked later if we had time. Each time we come to a branch from the main entrance's path, one team splits off. Since Bumblebee wasn't able to come, I'm with Optimus Prime. Leader with leader. When everyone else has separated, we take the next branch and head quickly down it. The Decepticons must have been on break or something because most of the machines are unmanned. Nice. Most of the Decepticons were taken out in the first few explosions.
Soon we came to the first site of crystal mining. The bare crystal has an eery glow, seeming to pulse. Here we also encounter our first Decepticon. Optimus takes him out easily, as we have the element of surprise.
Three hours later, we've stopped all Decepticon process in our branch. The "special" bombs that Hunter and Jake made are the explosive kind, but they're a contained and specific explosion, so there isn't any collapse of the actual tunnels, only the certain areas of crystal mining. We're coming back toward the main entrance when the tunnel begins to shudder. Dust falls from the ceiling. Someone's explosive must have triggered something else. Hurrying back to the main entrance, we race out as the main entrance ceiling starts collapsing. I look around. Cho and Ratchet are missing.
"Where's Cho and Ratchet?" I ask frantically.
"They're still in there," Jake answers me, a worried look on his face. More of the main entrance ceiling fell. Soon all of it will come down. Something must have happened to Cho and Ratchet.
"I'm going to find them," I announce, running back toward the main entrance, leaping through right before the rest of the main entrance collapses.
