Lost
Both you and Oscar spent a moment in comfortable silence, Oscar was thinking what could he do to make you feel better when he had an idea, "(Y/n), let's walk around for a bit. Maybe go to a cafe."
"Yeah, let's go."
Oscar lead you into the town, taking you into different shops, eventually setting down at a small cafe shop on the other side of the town. The young farm boy was trying to make your day brighter, which you appreciated.
To say the least, it did calm you down, a lot. Oscar, however, felt you were still clinging to the fight you had with Qrow, the two of you did argue a few times before, but at the end, the two of you will come back together again.
This time he wasn't sure what the outcome would be, you two never argued this significant to where the other teams were affected. You sit on of booths as Oscar went to get warm drinks, the shop owner walked to Oscar, "Taking your girlfriend on a date?"
Oscar blushed, "We're not together, just friends." The owner apologizes, "Oh, I'm sorry! It's just the way you look at her, I had assumed." Oscar smiles, "We're close friends."
"Well, she seems to have a lot on her mind, here this is on the house." The owner places two small cakes on his tray, "No, it's alright."
"Really take it. For her, by the looks of it she needs someone like you to help her out."
"Thank you."
Meanwhile, in on the other side of Argus...
"Oscar!"
Jaune, Ren, Nora, and Saphron are walking down a sidewalk at night. Nora calls out, "Oscar?"
"This city's enormous, he could've gone anywhere."
"This is all my fault... I overreacted."
"I still don't really understand what happened. Was it about the mission?"
"It's... kind of hard to talk about."
"I know, I know, "top secret". Did he... do something wrong?'
"No... he didn't. We just got some new information and... it's going to be a lot harder than we thought."
"I mean, if it were easy, then it wouldn't be important. Right?"
"I think we're all just a bit unsure of what to do next."
"You could... stay in Mistral, get your licenses at Haven, and come back to Argus. There's a lot of good you can do here. I know your mission is important, but it's not like you're the only ones who can do it. It's not the only mission that needs doing."
"It's... not that simple."
Saphron lingers a bit behind while Jaune, Ren, and Nora walk forward, before turning around to look back at her, "Well, uh... I should go pick up Adrian from daycare. I'll let Terra know what's happened, and we'll meet you later. Good luck."
The three Team JNPR members watch Saphron leave before looking down sadly.
"Hey, there's a cafe over there. Why don't we get something to warm up?"
"I'm okay. You two go on ahead."
Ren and Nora watch Jaune walk away with sad looks on their faces. Jaune takes a seat on a nearby bench, "You don't want anything?"
She and Ren then exchange a brief glance, "We'll be right back."
Ren and Nora walk away, leaving Jaune alone. Jaune keeps his head down while the wind blows, and a dried maple leaf flies in front of Jaune. He notices this and follows the maple leaf as it flies in the wind. Jaune follows the leaf into a nearby park. Suddenly, he stops in his tracks and notices something.
A statue of the late Pyrrha Nikos is standing solemnly on a stone pedestal, with her head down, eyes closed, and shield in her hands below her waist. Jaune slowly approaches the statue and looks up at his fallen friend and teammate. He then kneels down, sadly closes his eyes and stands back up to look at Pyrrha's statue again. He starts to walk away as footsteps are heard approaching.
"It's really beautiful, isn't it?"
Jaune stops and turns around upon hearing her voice. A woman with short, red hair and spectacled, green eyes in a brown coat reminiscent of Pyrrha's armor looks up at the statue with a bouquet of red flowers in her arms. Jaune also looks back up to the statue, "Yeah... uh, why here?"
"She trained here, Sanctum Academy. Everyone was crushed when she chose Beacon over Haven. She wanted to become like someone she admired, Lieutenant (Y/n). No one wanted to see her go, but... it was where she wanted to be. I'm just glad such amazing people surrounded her."
Jaune looks to the woman with a surprised look on his face. Tears start to well up in his eyes, "She should be standing here..."
"She is."
Jaune looks back at her in confusion, "She understood that she had a responsibility... to try. I don't think she would regret her choice, because a Huntress would understand that there really wasn't a choice to make. And a Huntress is what she always wanted to be."
Jaune turns to face the woman, "Pyrrha never got the chance to graduate... But she was a Huntress."
The woman smiles as tears start to well up in her eyes, "Thank you."
Jaune smiles back at her, "Jaune?"
Jaune looks away from the woman upon hearing his name called. He sees Ren and Nora looking for him while holding hot drinks in their hands. The two notice Jaune in the park and walk over to him. Jaune looks back over to the woman, but suddenly finds her gone. The flowers she was holding are left behind on the pedestal of Pyrrha's statue, "Jaune, why did you-"
Nora and Ren look up and notice the statue of their old friend. Team JNPR stands together once more, only with Pyrrha immortalized by her statue, "I'm sorry. I've been a terrible leader, and a terrible friend, and I-"
"Jaune, this has to stop."
"We... heard what you said to Cinder, at Haven. You're not being fair to yourself. We love you, just like we loved Pyrrha. We're teammates, family."
"We don't want to lose you too."
Jaune ponders his friends' words before looking back up to Pyrrha's statue, "I think... I think she knew she wasn't going to win. That she might not come out alive. But... she also knew she was the only one that could try."
"So, she did."
"Maybe we should too."
"Yeah, we should."
The three smile as they look up at the statue together, "Pyrrha may not be by our side anymore, but we can fight like she is."
"And in a way... she will be."
Nora hands Jaune a hot drink, "We should check back in at the house. Come on."
Ren and Nora start to walk away. Jaune lingers for a bit to take one last look at Pyrrha, "Thank you."
Jaune walks away and joins his teammates as they head off. A maple leaf, blowing in the wind, passing by Pyrrha's statue.
Back in the house, you and Oscar had placed down a few bags of groceries. While you began putting up some cans, Oscar spoke, "Will you tell me what's wrong?"
You sigh, then faced Oscar, "Oscar, you know I can't lie to you?"
"(Y/n)?"
"I know you were trying so hard to help me, but I can't hold it in anymore."
A single tear fell from your face, then followed by more.
Oscar felt a nagging feeling. "Talk to me (Y/n); I know this is hurting you."
"I... I'm going to take the relic to Atlas, you don't have to follow, I'll go to war with Salem, I'll take back my throne-" More tears fell from your eyes; you hated crying in front of people, except for Ozpin yet Oscar is Ozpin, "Listen to me, it's okay."
You fell on your knees as Oscar walked to you, "I may not be Ozpin, but I'm still your friend."
Oscar brought you into a hug. "You can cry; there's nothing wrong with that. I know it was hard on you too."
You finally broke down, clinging on Oscar's shirt. "Oscar... What he said to me... It hurts... It hurts... So much." Oscar held you tightly, "I know, it's okay."
It hurt Oscar to see you this way, for some reason he felt like this wasn't the first time he had seen you this way.
'Meeting you... was the worse luck of my life.' Oscar's eyes widen, you had been hurting since the crash. You still cried out; Oscar just patted your back, mumbling that everything was going to be okay.
"Is there something wrong with me? Should I have not came here? I should have ran away with Tamish when he-"
"Don't say that. I know that you have suffered as much as Ozpin, but we can get through this. Let's go back to our room before the others show up; I know you don't like to cry in front of them."
You wiped your tears, "Okay." You stood up following Oscar to your room.
A bit later, you were covered with a blanket; Oscar walked into the room.
"Here." Oscar handed you a glass of water, "Thank you."
You took a sip of the water, "I'm sorry you had to see that. That must have been pathetic to see me cry like that." Oscar shook his head, "Don't be sorry; if you need someone to talk to. I will always be available."
You smiled, "Thank you, Oscar, you're the best."
"You can take a nap; I'll prepare something before everyone gets here. Want a casserole?"
You nodded, "Yeah, you don't need help?" Oscar throws a pillow at you, "Nope! Get some sleep!" He leaves the room; you smiled laying back in bed. Taking in a deep breath, Ajin appeared in front of you, "You let him into my thoughts, didn't you?" Ajin stayed quiet.
"Oscar doesn't have to know what goes on in my head, then again, I haven't cried this much since Suneel."
"Qrow... Hurt you..."
"I hurt him too."
~Time skip~
As you slept, Oscar just put the casserole in the oven, "Alright, I should wake (Y/n) up." Before Oscar walked up the stairs, he heard voices outside. Oscar opens the door, "Oh, I was wondering when you'd get back."
Oscar stands at the doorway, "OSCAR!!"
Nora screams in joy as Oscar initially has a confused look on his face, and then one of comical terror as the seven students all leap forward and tackle hug him. Now inside the house, Ruby helps Oscar up as everyone shares a laugh.
"You had us worried sick!"
"Are you okay?"
"What are you wearing?"
Oscar smiles and rubs the back of his head, "Uh..."
The rest of the group steps into the house.
"Is something cooking?"
"Oh, uh, yeah. I thought you guys would appreciate a hot meal after... spending all day looking for me, apparently."
"It's my fault we were all out there in the first place. Oscar, I am so sorry for earlier. I was way, way out of line, and what I said-"
"No, it's okay. These past few days, I've been scared of the same things you were. I don't know how much longer I'm going to be... me. But I did some thinking, and I do know that I want to do everything I can to help with whatever time I have left."
"Good. This team isn't the same without you, Oscar."
Everyone shares a smile. Suddenly, a smoke alarm goes off.
Oscar gasps, "The casserole!"
Saphron giggles, "We're on it, chef." Saphron and Terra step into the kitchen to take care of Oscar's cooking, "Uh, combat gear looks good."
Ruby and Oscar share a smile. Then, the group notice Qrow walking up the stairs, "Where are you going now?"
"I don't want to get in the way of your celebration."
"You've been gone all day! Just sit with us."
"Look, Ruby, I'm glad you kids worked out, uh, whatever all that was. But the fact is, we're not a single step closer to Atlas."
"Actually, I think I have an idea. But... it's sort of a "no-going-back" kind of idea."
"Well, let's hear it."
"With Cordo on watch, only Atlas airships have the clearance to leave for Solitas. So... we... steal an Atlas airship." Jaune nervously shrugs at his last statement.
Everyone gets shocked looks on their faces. Adrian giggles in Maria's arm, "That's not just breaking the law. That's... that's definitely worse."
"How would we even get onto the airfield?"
"That part I haven't quite figured out yet. But I-"
"Okay, stop. Just... stop! Look, if this thing goes south, it's not something we can fight our way out of. This is the Atlas Military we're talking about. For your sake, drop this."
Everyone looks down with discouraging looks on their faces. Ruby notices this and turns back to Qrow with a determined look on her face, "I want to hear him out."
"Ruby..."
"I want to hear him out! I know you're trying to protect us, that you're afraid we can't do it, but right now, I don't care what you think!"
Qrow gains a shocked expression upon hearing this, "Just because you don't have an idea, doesn't mean we're out of options! Oz hasn't been here to tell us what to do, but we still managed to get this far anyway. We've been in bad situations before, and we don't need an adult to come to save us or tell us what to do. We just did it our way! And I say we do it our way. And if you think you can keep up with us "kids"... we'd be happy to have you."
Qrow looks down sadly and doesn't say anything; he looks back to Ruby while she looks back at him determined.
"Where's (Y/n)?" Weiss asked as she looked around for any sign of you.
"We would have seen her when we were looking, Oscar." Jaune pointed out.
Qrow stopped his footsteps, "She wasn't with you?" With a bit of concern, Qrow felt a sense of fear wash over him. "She didn't leave, right?"
"Leave? Why would she-"
"She said she would leave to Atlas on her own with the relic." Qrow was about to walk to the front door then stopped, if you were gone, then you wouldn't want to see him anymore.
Yang spoke up, "Ruby had the relic all day."
"If we all spit up, we can maybe find her faster," Blake replied. Before they walked out of the house, Oscar spoke up. "Oh, guys, she's here in the house, but right now, she's not in the best shape."
"Best shape? Did something happen?" Weiss steps forward. Oscar turns to Qrow, "Yes."
Qrow sighed. "Are you going to talk to her?" Ruby asked.
Qrow looked down, "I don't know if I could."
"Qrow, you shouldn't shrug this off," Nora added. "Look, kid, earlier I did something I shouldn't, give it some time and-."
"No! Today I did your job; I don't know what your relationship is with (Y/n), but I saw something I never wish to see again. I took care of (Y/n), trying to cheer her up. She had a breakdown, and to see you not doing anything about it! If I didn't bring her here, she would have found a way to get the relic and leave! She said she was going to Atlas alone and seal herself in the vaults!" Oscar yells, Qrow was taken back, "She loves you, Qrow. Seeing her like that was heartbreaking."
"(Y/n) was hurting all this time since we found out about Ozpin for so long she pretended to be okay! That's not healthy." Ruby and Yang stepped forward, "Uncle Qrow, you have to talk to her."
"Stop pushing her away, we all know about the fight you two had. Didn't you think if she were able to tell you, she would've?"
Qrow doesn't say anything, only walking upstairs, he could hear what everyone was saying,
"(Y/n) was going to leave?"
"Do you think they are going to be okay?"
"I don't know."
Qrow stands in front of your room; he knew it was the same room you were in. He knocks on the door softly, no response.
Qrow felt discouraged but knew he had to see you.
He enters the room seeing two beds with you on the left side of the room; you were fast asleep. Ajin turns around, facing Qrow, "Qrow... Made Saint... Cry..." Ajin stands up tall, "... If I get... Rid of you-" Ajin cuts himself off by you shuffling to your side. "Saint gave me an order, not to touch you." Qrow stared at Ajin with side eyes, "I love her."
"Tell her." Ajin disappears, as Qrow made his way to you. Qrow touched your forehead, noticing you had a slight fever. His cold touch woke you, "What time is it?"
You didn't see it was Qrow sitting on your bed, Qrow removed his hand, "I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing? I'm-" The faint scent of whiskey told you who was sitting next to you.
"I should have been there for you. Instead, I ignored you; I pushed you away, I raised my hand at you-"
"Qrow, it's okay."
"No! I don't deserve to hold you like this-"
"I'm okay; you are okay; we are okay. Look, we are talking to each other again." You caressed his face, "Qrow-"
Qrow cut you off by placing his lips on yours, "Don't leave us, don't leave me. I love you... So much." Qrow buried his face on your shoulder, you could feel tears running down his face onto your skin, "I know, what I did was wrong, and you have every right not to forgive me. I would hate me too if I were you."
You wrapped your as around Qrow, "I don't hate you. You're still and always will be the love of my life."
"I don't want to lose you. I can't lose you."
"You won't lose me."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Qrow takes hold of your hand, removing one his rings and places it on your right hand, "This will a promise I'll make to you. I swear I'll buy you a real one, and it will be on your left hand when that day comes."
You kiss Qrow, he places his hands on your waist, pulling you closer to him.
"When we win this, let's start a family of our own."
"I'd like that." Both you and Qrow fell asleep in each other's arms. Ruby and Yang smile, seeing that you and their uncle worked things out.
They walk downstairs as everyone was worried about the results, "They worked things out."
Everyone was relieved to hear the news; Oscar smiles after a sigh, "Thanks for taking care of her today." Yang patted him on his back, "If she did go away, who knows what would happen to Qrow or any of us."
"To be honest, I was going to go with her, but I know she wouldn't be the same without her family."
Everyone smiles, agreeing with Oscar said.
