Beginning of the End

Volume 3 Chapter 7

You stood up from your seat, "Mercury Black." Acting quickly, you stood up from your seat rushing to get to Yang, of course, a few paramedics got in your way.

"Yang Xiao Long, stand down!" An Atlas soldier shouts. Mercury clings on his leg gasping in pain, "My leg, MY LEG!" As Mercury is still cradling his injured limb, Emerald kneeling beside him and Yang in the center of a ring of security, all with rifles aimed at her. "Let me through, as a huntress and her professor, I have to see her." The paramedics didn't allow you to enter the arena.

Emerald in distress, calls out, "Please, somebody help him!" Paramedics come over with a stretcher, lowering it to Mercury, "Can you do something!?" A rip in the leg of Mercury's pants made skin and blood become visible.

"We need to get this boy to a hospital. Grab a blanket." Paramedics begin to
They get Mercury on the stretcher and rush him off, Emerald following right behind. Yang looks on with a horrified expression, her lilac eyes now almost colorless, the moment she made eye contact with you, she tried to reach out for you only for a soldier to lift his rifle, "You don't understand! He attacked me, I swear! Aunt (Y/n), you saw-" Yang pointed her finger at Mercury, "Stow it! You've already caused enough of a scene!" Your eyes followed Emerald and Mercury, "Yang calm down. Okay sweety, take deep breaths."

Meanwhile, Emerald runs alongside the two paramedics as they come across an open door with a woman in the same outfit inside.
The woman gesturing them to stop, "Here! We've got an ambulance ready to go!"
Later, the back door closes on the emergency airship they loaded Mercury in.

The Paramedic sighs, then talking with the "other paramedic," "Hope they'll be okay. That girl won't leave his side."
Cinder nodding under the white cap with a red cross she's wearing, "We'll take good care of both of them." The transport flies away from the Colosseum, and Mercury is laying on a cargo box in the back, still moaning and crying beside Emerald sitting next to him.

"Oh doc, tell me, will I ever walk again?" Mercury then receives a punch in the arm from Emerald, looking at her as he rubs the sore spot he actually got hurt from, "Ow! What's your deal!?"

Groaning suddenly as Emerald puts her hand up to her forehead, "Ugh, headache. One mind I can handle, but two is a stretch."

Cinder calls back to them from the co-pilot's seat, "Well, you all performed marvelously, driver included."
The "driver," wearing a similar uniform as Cinder, blinks her magenta eyes back to their natural brown and pink shades and nods in silent gratitude.

Mercury asks as the airship continues to fly away, "So, you think it worked?"

"All according to plan, Saint isn't much as a threat like Salem said." Cinder crossed her arms.
"Explain to me, why did Salem warn us about her anyways? She said that this 'Saint' could ruin everything for us, but if you ask me she's more of an airhead." Mercury leaned back on the stretcher.
"Then again if she wasn't, why would Salem mention her if she wasn't a threat?"

Back to you

"Where did they take Mercury?" You ask a paramedic who was standing by, "He was taken into an ambulance, ma'am."
"*sigh* I was too late, thank you." You then walked off only to see a familiar face within the crowd; your body stiffens as you felt your heart drop down to your stomach. The man's milky white hair that covered his pale mint eyes but you knew he was stating back at you. With a bink of an eye, the man was gone. You turned to your heel quickly, running off to Ozpin's tower. Ozpin watched you rush to his office taking notice that something was wrong. Upon making it to his tower, you placed down your scroll, and a few images appear, of Mercury with Cinder and the man who was staring at you. "Suneel is here." Ozpin whispers.

"They were there. Oz, she is on to us." You sat in front of Ozpin, "I know, and they didn't come alone." You put on the hood of your cape, "Oz, this is so frustrating."
"It's sad to see what's becoming of you."
"That's kinda rude." You pouted at his remarks, "Saint, you used to be filled with happiness, warmth, but since that man walked into your life, you kept your distance from anyone who tried getting close to you."
"Everyone other than you."
"But recently you have been going back to your old self. I want to remind you that Suneel is no longer keeping you in that cage he called love." You smiled brightly, "Of course, Oz."

Volume 3 Chapter 8

"I'm sorry, but you've left us with no choice."
"But he attacked me!"
"Video footage and millions of viewers say otherwise."

Weiss gestures to her teammate from the other bed, "But Yang would never do that!"

Ruby, standing up from beside her sister, " Yeah!"

Ironwood turns around as Yang sighs and places her head in her hands, "You all seem like good students, and the here at are fully aware that you would never lash out the way you did... under normal circumstances. What I believe and hope this to be is nothing more than the result of stress and adrenaline. When you're out on the battlefield, your judgment can become clouded in an instant. Sometimes you see things that simply aren't there. Even after the fight is past..."

"But I wasn't-"

"That's ENOUGH!" Ironwood waited for them to stay quiet when the room falls silent, he goes on, "The sad truth is, whether it was an accident or an assault, it doesn't matter. The world saw you attack an innocent student. They've already drawn their own conclusions. And it's my job to inform you that... you are disqualified."

Yang's shock turns into miserable understanding when she looks to the ground, and Ironwood leaves the room. As Ironwood walks down the hall he takes notice of you walking towards his direction, and you were going to meet with Yang, of course, Ironwood stopped you, "(L/n), you saw what happened." You turned to him, "If she told me he attacked her, I believe her." Ironwood sighed, "(Y/n) that's how people get you, you can't always believe what people say."
"James, they are the ones Qrow warned us about." Ironwood's eyes widen, pulling you to the side that way people wouldn't hear about the situation, "That girl, Emerald, her semblance created illusions. Yang wouldn't attack for no reason; think about it."

"Then what should we do about the girls?"
"We have to keep them disqualified; they can't know what is going on, not yet at least." Ironwood nodded as you continued, "I reported everything to Oz already, right now, our main focus will be the tournament, we can't afford for all this to go down." Ironwood notices your posture, "Are you alright?" Ironwood asked, you stopped at your tracks, "Suneel is back." Ironwood flinches, "We need to get you out of here then." He then takes your hand and begins to drag you with him, "Wait, James, I can't leave, if he is here he might be with them they want me to be separated from Oz. Let's wait until Oz gives out orders."

Back to Yang

Yang, still in the dorm sitting on Blake's bed, looks out the window at the members of JNPR walking in the courtyard outside, Nora marching alongside Ren with Jaune and Pyrrha in the back, all of them looking happy to be with each other.

Qrow, leaning against the door, arms crossed and a small smile on his face, "Hey there, firecracker."

Not surprised enough to turn around, she instead gazes down, "Hey, Qrow."

Qrow snorts like her response was funny before becoming serious, "So, why'd you do it?"

Yang takes a second to respond, "You know why."

Qrow uncrosses his arms as he leers at her, "All I know is that you attacked a helpless kid. So either you're lying, or you're crazy."

Yang stares resolutely at her uncle, "I'm not lying."

Qrow makes a disappointed noise, "Crazy, got it." Qrow walks to the center of the room, hands in his pockets.

"Who knows? Maybe I am."
"And here I thought your dark-haired friend was the emo one."

"I saw my mom." Yang looks at Qrow's sudden stop and shocked reaction from the corner of her eye, "I-I was in a lot of trouble. Took a pretty hard hit. But when I came to, the person attacking me was gone. And I thought I saw... her. Her sword, like the one in you and dad's old picture."

Qrow laughs, "You're not crazy, Yang." He turns and nods, smiling sadly, "That was your mom, all right. Let me guess - she didn't say a word, did she?"

Yang looks up as he walks up to her between the bunk beds, "How did you know that?"

"I don't see my sister very often, but she does try to keep in touch... whenever it suits her."

Yang shakes her head at the revelation, "Wait. You mean you talk to her? That was real?"

"Yeah, she found me. Had a tip from my most recent assignment and wanted me to give you a message."

"Why didn't you tell me sooner!?"

Qrow lets out a sigh as he goes over to the window, not looking at his niece, "I was tryin' to wait for the right time, and this sure ain't it. But I guess you deserve to know. She wanted me to tell you that she saved you once, but you shouldn't expect that kindness again. Raven's got an interesting way of looking at the world that I don't particularly agree with. And she's dangerous. But you're a tough egg, kiddo. Shouldn't let this tournament thing get'cha down. You had a slip-up, sometimes bad things just happen. I say it's time you move on."

"Move on to what?"

Qrow leans down on the dresser under the window, "Well... Raven let some info slip before she took off. If you ever wanna track her down, I think I might be able to help."

He glances back at Yang, who looks at him with her full attention.

Time skip~
A meeting was held that same night in the clock tower, Ozpin sat in his chair as you stood at his right, Glenda, Ironwood, and Qrow all stood around the room, "I'm taking that Saint told you why we are here again."
"No, James is the only one by far." You replied Qrow leaned on the wall, "And why didn't you tell me first?"
"I haven't seen you all day."
"Before the two of you have a lovers quarrel I will tell all of you, Suneel is here at Beacon." Glenda uncrosses her arms, "How?" Qrow straightened his position, "That Suneel? If so, why isn't (Y/n) been accompanied by any of us?" James stepped forward, "Today Suneel was found out, I haven't let (Y/n) out of my site all day." This ticked a nerve to Qrow, "Then how have you've been feeling?" You looked up, "If you asked me that a few years back, I would have been into hiding, but I only caught a glimpse of him, better safe than sorry."

"Ozpin, may I suggest we keep (Y/n) under my watch?" You sighed at the offer, "James, we already discussed this. I will stay with Oz, for the time being, Suneel is smart enough to know not to come near Oz." Glenda began to think of an idea, "We need to make sure that (Y/n) is in plain view of all of us, by far what we know, he is the main threat of (Y/n). Ironwood I suggest we use a few of your men to watch the area and we will keep (Y/n) under our wraps." "Why do you say it as I'm a child?" Ozpin places a hand on your shoulder, "Saint, do understand that Suneel will do anything to get you back since that incident back then." The memory of that day appeared in your head, how Suneel's laughter while he tried to slaughter you what your last memory of him.
"Explain what you saw in him?" Qrow stood in front of you, blocking the view of the two behind him.
"Qrow."
"After what he did to you? Do you think you are safe? You know if anything happens to you the Grimm-"
"The Grimm attack my attacker they wouldn't target anyone if I am there, but fear attracts the Grimm. Suneel is no longer someone I ran to, as long as I stay far from him, nothing will happen to you or anyone here during the tournament."
"During the tournament, Saint will be with each one of us. Glenda will watch Saint during the day and Ironwood in the evening. Qrow, you are the closes to Saint you will bring her home."

Next day~
Back in the Colosseum, people are back in the stands cheering and ready for entertainment as Ruby descends down the steps to an open seat. Despite everything that's happened, she's smiling widely, looking around at the assembled crowds, taking notice that you were sitting next to Ironwood and no sign of her uncle.
Until her stupefied eyes see a familiar, glaring face on the other side of the arena.

"Emerald's... here?"

As if sensing she's being watched, Emerald leans forward to glare at Ruby, who suddenly gets up with a worried expression and runs towards the exit tunnel. Checking to see if no one's around, she enters a door labeled with a yellow maintenance sign and finds herself inside of the Colosseum. She walks forward with determination as Oobleck's voice is heard, muffled behind the brick walls, "All right, it's now time to begin the randomization process for our next fight!"

The sound of the roulette is heard faintly, but what makes Ruby stop in her tracks is the sight of another unexpected "friend" stepping out from a nearby tunnel, wholly unharmed and definitely not going home.

"Mercury?"

"It looks like our first contender is... Penny Polendina from Atlas..."

Ruby's attention goes from the broadcast to the fraud, "What are you doing?"

"And her opponent will be... Pyrrha Nikos from Beacon!"

Ruby's head dips in thought until she realizes the awful truth, "No..."

Mercury puts a hand to his chin, "Ooh, polarity versus metal. That could be bad."

Ruby glares at her new opponent, reaching back to grab Crescent Rose, only to remember she doesn't have it on her. Mercury simply grins maliciously and sets himself up in a fighting pose.
