Well, usually I try to imagine the color I would associate with either the hero's personality or their power. People still make fun of The Marvel for having a McDonald's costume, but it was originally in my head seen as red with yellow accents, a little less stupid looking. Sometimes I just think of a color of a superhero costume I haven't done. The designs in my head are based off of costume designs I've seen in the movies or in the TV shows, but to a realistic extent. There will be no flashy and stupid costumes unless I am purposely making fun of a super.

Plus they become practical when it comes to masks. If the hero is spending a lot of time with people they know in real life and as a superhero, they're mask will have more coverage so it is realistic that no one would know they're a hero, like with The Marvel and Wild Fire. When Sonic becomes a hero, everyone in her life already knows about her powers, so she doesn't even wear a wig like most of my girl heroes recently have done.
