Q&A (MissODell)

Question 1. When you start a story- how much of the full narrative do you already have in mind? All of it, or just a rough idea, or do you start in one place and see where the road takes you?

A. This is a good question because most of the time, I begin out with an 'idea' of what I'd like to happen in the story or what kind of story I'm going to begin with. If an idea sticks in my mind, either a sentence I'd like to write, a sort of plot, conflict, character..etc, I usually build something around that to bring it to life.

(Example: 'Harold stared ahead as Ellie walked out of his sight. A small smile left on his lips as the warmth from her kiss still lingered on his cheek.' From this sentence I just thought up, I may build on it, give it backstory, change character names and start from there.)

Most are rough ideas but usually around the first or second chapter of a new story, I begin to think, "What if this happened instead? What if I skip a year ahead? Would it be more interesting if these people had an affair? Could I recover from this and still stick to the initial plot and elements I originally had in mind and still plan to stick to?

That's something else I want to point out. I still try to stick to the main elements I had set out from the start and even if I begin to head off course, I take a small break to figure out what I can change in the next chapter or build on so I can get everything back in check.

Pt.2 of Question 1. In "Terms" of 'I'm a Loser', I wondered if the Molly/Stu relationship was what you had in mind from the beginning and whether the Molly/George relationship had changed from what you originally planned?

To be quite honest, I never had in mind this was going to be a Molly/Stu fic. It definitely shows from the beginning with the backstory of Molly and George's friendship and how close the two are. As only a few might remember, I labeled this story as a George fic. But as I began to write and began to settle in Stuart, I began to change the tone and found that writing him as more of a love interest than a friend would give me more freedom to kind of explore his nature and what I 'think' Stu would do in certain situations and be more original.

So also to the second question, I was going to make Stuart a friend to Molly who she would kind of lean on throughout her sort of ups and downs with George and the band. But this went out the window when I began to kind of sense that choosing Stu as a love interest for my lovely OC would benefit me more with ideas! (Sorry George!)

Question 3. Who's your favorite Beatle to write?

This is such a hard question! All of them are fun but obviously have different personalities so it's quite easy to build a story around them. If I have to choose, it'd definitely be John.

I love John so much and he's such a quirky kind of guy and has gone through such changes in his life that it's not hard to write many fics about him. Teenager John Lennon, Beatle John Lennon, Acid John Lennon, Father John Lennon, Sexual John Lennon, Rockstar John Lennon...

I can probably write ten fics about Lennon and I can make each one different. ;)

Question Four. Who's the trickiest Beatle to write?

I don't even need to think twice about this one. Paul. Paul Paul Paul. This man tests me with my own writing abilities. I swear anytime he's in a fic or mentioned, I always have a hard time incorporating him into a scene. Well not all the time. But for the most part he's a tricky man for me to write. Of course I absolutely love him but, I don't know. Writing "The Night Before" was a major challenge and had me pulling my hair out many times...but that's an answer for another question.

Question Five. Who's been your favorite OC? Which Story of your own has been your favourite? And Least Favourite?

Okay so the more stories I write the harder this question gets. But I think most of my readers know that my favorite little OC to write about and for is Lucy Daniels from the "Devil in Her Heart" series. I find myself so attached to her that it was very hard to leave her behind. I incorporated quite of a bit of myself into her character to make her more realistic rather than just some ordinary OC made up to be a typical American girl living in Liverpool.

As for my favorite story, two go very hand in hand. In My Life, even though it's the third story in the "DIHH" series, was my favorite to write. It was my way of breaking out of a 'Beatles fic'. This story takes place in the 70s when the band is broken up, we get a different feel and a more grown up Lucy. I feel most fics either end their last story before The Beatles break up or just simply imply the two love interests live happily ever after. But I couldn't let this happen since it was a John Lennon story.

John's death is something I hardly ever see written in a fic and is usually ignored. It broke my heart deeply writing that scene but I felt I had to be true to my readers. I know this calls for one fic but my other fic I had so much fun writing was "Nowhere Men." I laughed so much while writing scenes, had so much fun and got quite a bit positive feedback for it! I wasn't expecting that many people to love it! Lol

I hate to say I have a least favorite but I have to admit, "The Night Before" put me through hell. Not in a bad way I mean I'm glad how well it's turned out, but I had no interest in it! I simply improvised most of it, I just carelessly slapped words on my screen and I couldn't connect with it at all! This also has to do with my struggle with writing Paul.

Yep, going back to question 4. I don't know what it is that puts me off gear when writing him. It was because of this I chose to write this story but i had such a hard time I was pulling my hair out and trying to connect! Haha no offense to Paul but I'm glad it was still enjoyed by my readers.

Question Six. What are your favourtie BFF stories (which aren't your own)?

Is it bad I don't really read anyone else's fics?? It's not that I'm being snooty but I just haven't found time or interest in reading fanfics at the moment! Which is quite hypocritical since I'm always asking and wanting people to take a chance on my own fics. But as soon as I come across some new stories I find interesting and, I'll be sure to make some recommendations!

Question Seven. What are your top tips for writing?

Tips, we'll....

1.) DON'T fret if your new story doesn't become a hit within a week or two! I know so many people get impatient or get a little hurt when they put their time and ideas in a few chapters and only get about one notification every several days. When I first started I was sure I'd never get anywhere and I was so ready to give up. We've all been there love! Keep your chin up, pester a few people you know either on instagram or someone like me (If anyone wants me to give em a shout out I'll definitely give a recommendation on my main feed). But all in all just be patient and keep writing! Believe it or not people will stumble across and give you some feedback!

2.) When writing a story NEVER describe every detail and ALWAYS leave some things up to the readers imagination. Ever read a story and the writer is describing every single movement and action the character is doing?? And does it ever annoy the hell out of you and make you feel as if the writer assumes our brains can't imagine what's going on ourselves?? Well yeah, think that next time you find yourself falling into that trap.

3.) Don't get intimidated with word count. You know those numbers in the bottom right corner of your phones screen that goes higher and higher anytime you write a word?? Don't get obsessed over them! In fact let that 'function' be a goal setter for you!

4.) This will be a final one for now and it's definitely something very recent that's occurred in the wattpad world. DON'T ADD PHOTOS TO YOUR STORY! Isn't this the whole purpose of writing?? I'll admit this function could benefit with some with like "facts" or funny sort of joke fics. But with an actual story, don't do it. Your readers will think of you as lazy!

I'll add a photo below to let you all see something I've been going by since I began writing. Hope you all enjoyed these answers! Again thanks to @MissODell for the questions! Another list will be added soon thanks to another reader! Peace and Love <333
