Jae let me in on a something shocking that caught me by surprise— her brother inviting me to his personal lounge. It had a snooker table by the corner plus a golf course simulation, one I won't mind trying.
We finished our session early and hence I found myself seated leg crossed with a glass encircled by my hand, the sweet after taste had me going for another drink.
The two siblings were squaring against the other, and right now Jae was beating her brother badly nevertheless that was intentional on his part as even I being an amateur knew he was letting her have her way.
Lucy was off again today, sadly we had little time to speak the previous day. I debated on calling her but Jae informed me she was doing okay.
Flipping onto the next page, Sovann's laughter pierces through the silence waving past my ears with it's sultry sound, more like a caress to the skin if I must add.
My eyes involuntarily look up to see the two siblings engaged in a low banter, from my tutee's hand movements to my boss' face, amusement written all over, it was bound to be a minor sibling quarell.
"Let's ask Ana then" I was caught off guard, why did she have to drag me into this, my teeth sank into the flesh of my lower lip out of utter shock my eyes stared straight at the letters formed into words on the smooth page of the book.
A long sigh left Mr Aguirre's lips and boy did I feel more glad, just maybe his displeasure would dissolve Jae's referral.
"So who's the winner?" Was it just me or did he forget we weren't at his office but in a habitable environment, hello this is a house sorry a home, and not a building filled with endless prints of paper and landlines being blown off by calls he really needed to tone down that bossy behaviour of his.
My brow arched higher, fingers skimming across the refined paperwork that had somehow become less of my concern. "Pardon," I closed my book giving my full attention to the other occupants of this well-heeled space.
I could stay here all year round if only their was an endless supply of books added which would make me never to step my feet outside ever.
Jae dropped the snooker pole, a sinister smile on her face, "you were watching right?" Folding her arms against her chest, she pushed back the fine thread of hair stuck on her cheek, "tell my brother here that he's a sore looser"
My eyes popped, did she want me to loose my job and put an abrupt end to our friendship? This time she was asking for too much.
The other pair of eyes on me garnered my attention, stealing away my thoughts with the tilt of his lips somehow his whole demeanour dared me to even try, what was this? A school play or perhaps my mind just over thinking things.
I'll definitely know when I'm over thinking and right now isn't one of those times, "come on Ana" she persisted, a pout to her lips how could I resist that.
Straightening my button down shirt, I got on my feet, moving towards Jae my hands resided to the sides of her shoulders "I won't use the word sore looser it was indeed a good match which you won of course"
Jae peeped at her brother's expression, giving out a small squeal she hugged me, "you're just the best " bending a bit to accommodate her height as she whispered, "that was very smooth, Ana"
I almost chuckled if not for that harsh clearing of throat interrupting our silent chitchat, "happy now Jae?" He returned the pole back onto the snooker board, due to the slight impact few balls rolled in random directions.
"Nah, I need to go downstairs for a second I forgot my phone" she walked past me, then towards the lounge doors I could already hear my inner voice begging at her to come back.
I discovered leaving Sovann and I alone was a bad thing, it was either he'll go full hulk on me or abuse his upper arm strength which would only be to his advantage.
I knew following my workout routine will pay off one day oh why did I have to quit on just my third, Mr Aguirre's words stop me from crouching down on my seat and returning to my novel I forsake to be a miniature judge.
Facing him once more, I notice he isn't looking in my direction but has the pole back in his grip, aiming for the poor blue ball with the number eight, the pole plummeted against, sending it straight for the hole at the right edge of the table, "care to join me?"
He sounded insincere and me joining him must be at the bottom of his list right now, why did I get the feeling he was planning to humiliate me.
Get a grip young woman.
"Not like I'm a better opponent but I'll give it a shot" what was I thinking, my feet had already began to retrace my steps towards the table, funnily towards the one man I wanted to be more than five feet apart from.
Yet, I felt triggered to continue on with his request to get to the root of his true intention of asking me of all persons to join him.
I wasn't a fan of such but giving a try didn't sound that bad, I rolled up my sleeves, "to be clear this is my first time so I'm open to corrections," a strange look flashed in his eyes, before I realised with a smug grin taking form on his lips.
"That won't be a problem" he handed the pole over, veiny arms going back into the pocket of his pants, the navy blue collared shirt, had few buttons left undone and a steel chain peeked out.
Though his hair appeared trimmed, it managed to fall into his eyes, pure night black eyes the type of darkness you see when you shut your eyes to tempting arms of sleep.
Rekindling his stance from few minutes ago I assume it, keeping the pole to my desired angle. The force was short lived as the ball rolled and stopped a metre away from the hole.
"Not bad " a brief cheer followed, "your aim is just off" my privacy bubble got invaded, as though he was that sharp pointy pin bursting his way through. Mr Aguirre reminded me of his height whilst he perched himself behind me, steading my hands against the wooden stick.
The light brush of contact our skins exchanged didn't seem to be affecting him, but me, I could feel goosebumps trail down my arm and a cold breeze suffocate me.
I was forced to go lower as his chin was a little distance away from nesting on my shoulder, his upper front nearly pressed my clothed back.
Strands of hair tickled my cheek, my hands were following every bit of his command whilst my mind was figuring out the proximity we shared.
The manly whispers he caressed my ears with trapped me in a daze, when the balls clacked I grew eager to give myself some space.
To breath perhaps and get my thinking back.
He was beginning to give me the jibbers, in a millisecond I cranked my neck to maybe glimpse over and then refrain from playing this game.
Our eyes connected and maybe it's the too many romance books I've been burying my eyes and mind in getting to me, there was no softness in those eyes of his, the tender look he gives his sister was long gone.
Did he loathe me this much, I wasn't able to decipher the look surfing those orbs of his like he was trying to unravel all of my being all at once and discover the hidden secrets I've kept away— how I always sleep with my bed side light on.
He broke first, creating more space between the two of us, his manly cologne waltz away with him.
I had a feeling that he was still staring at me, it made me uncomfortable and maybe skeptical of whether choosing to involve myself with my one of my kind boss was a good idea after all.
