I bade Thomas farewell, alighting the vehicle my backtracked to my first week which ended well if I must add, once I got off the phone after getting in touch with Uruo this morning, somehow she convinced me to not lash out on Clint's so called friend and pull through what all this is.
Taking the usual route, Mr brooding boss, note the air quotes, appears in my vision, Thomas' words now begin to replay in my head.
Ignore him.
Do not let him get under you skin.
It was a freaking Monday morning for crying out loud, didn't he have files to shove down his throat or a super hot secretary to distract him and sprinkle his boring life with some pizazz, perhaps break down this whole scary guy exterior his slapping at my face.
I barely set my foot on the stairs when he sees it fit to propel me backwards, he nearly makes me trip with the low heels I have on, being fast enough to save myself from a lifelong embarrassment, I released a huff.
An angry one.
"You weren't taught to acknowledge the people you work for?" Can this man be more self centred for heaven's sake, the day was yet to begin and he was already ruining it with all that suave, it would be useless fighting his stupid demands.
I create more space between us, leveling my eyes with his, I muster a faux smile adding a curt bow for effect, maybe that will satisfy him, "Good morning, Mister Aguirre how is your morning going"
He squints his eyes, a visible bob of his column covered by his bright skin tells me he's about to speak but I don't let him, "as I can see you're doing fine, so I might as well go meet who I'm here for" that alone sets the tip on the ice berg when I pat his chest and feel him stiffen a bit.
My actions may have put him in shock, saying as he doesn't yell from behind me or reappears from thin air muttering with that cold voice of his on how I should act and grow some manners.
How pathetic.
I wish my grandmother was alive to give his stiff ass a fair whopping.
May teach him to treat his employees better, I wonder how they survive with him as their boss, it's barely being a week and I'm dreading my life choices.
He is way grumpy than my physics teacher back in my secondary school days, he's bald scalp always had that bright shine to it when he stood under one of the bulbs plus his shirt couldn't contain his protruding belly.
Uruo once joked about it killing his lovely wife, but when I think about it. It doesn't sound like a joke after all.
My tailored pants rub by it's ends, pushing through the doors I'm met with Jae's calm composure, a pencil to her hand as she focuses on her notes.
The shelves no longer harboured the row of books I've come to stare at, after that day her brother thought it wise to eliminate all possible distractions, he gave the library a redo and moved the books to a different room situated on the ground floor.
He gave strict orders to Lucy to never allow Jae in there unless during weekends and warned through email to never talk about —in his terms— mind warping novels with his sister again.
Hearing the sound from my heels she runs towards my direction, wraps her warm self around me whilst spewing apologies all over.
Our sessions started with whispers of how stuck up her brother could get, "he is just being protective that's all" she shrugged, going back to her notes.
We go over more topics, I do more explaining as she enquiries further on my knowledge to equip her understanding, her brows sometimes furrow showing there's still a string of confusion but is smoothened out when I throw more light on the concept.
The timer I set rings indicating the set out break, Lucy trouped in with two other girls dropping a tray of snacks, one I don't fancy still I delve in and take a swift bite.
When they excuse themselves our trio circle is reunited, Lucy stood in our midst, hands on her waist a stance that reminds me of my best friend who's miles away.
She brushes the curls of her fro, "have you gotten the latest release?" Jae's face falls as she drawled from her straw stuck in the fruit smoothie I've learnt is her favourite.
I place my palm on hers, "keep the smile up darling, I may just have an idea on how we can be meeting up" she beams at the information, it was an arrangement that Lucy brought up to me.
Finding out that Lucy was also book obsessed such as myself, she shared some things with me I guess she wasn't meant to which could risk her job.
And yes. I'm going to make Mister Aguirre sound like the Villan, that he obviously is.
He throws more tantrums than my nieces ever did.
We had to be careful for our little arrangement to work, I couldn't believe I was going to risk this much for this adorable little girl.
Her case quite similar to Rapunzel's taking out the long hair and scary mother gothel, the role fitted her older brother so perfectly, he didn't even need a wig to play the part.
"You have culinary classes on Tuesdays, it's going to be easy your brother spends most times at his office plus you can make up the excuse that your teacher delayed can't you" she gives a thorough thought to my words, her eyes widening, realising we can actually pull this off.
Lucy backs me up, muttering within ourselves "Jae darling I can delay your brother if he starts acting up" she throws herself on me first then launches at the pretty woman perched beside us.
Five minutes prior to the end of the break, Lucy knows it's time to return to her duties, another hour passes and I make sure to not make a repeat of what happened the last time.
On my drive home, Thomas indulges me in something different, the wild collection of wine brands he mentioned has me wanting to try one.
I'm not a fan of fancy drinks and clicking glasses around, being it in parties or events. I rarely show at my father's not to mention going out for booze so when Thomas keeps lecturing on said topic, I'm intrigued and make a mental note, to spend the next weekend out of the comfort of my bed —my books to be exact—in other words I need to hang out more around physical people.
Kicking off my shoes my poor feet was squeezed into, I massage my soles, changing into house clothes after a quick shower I go over to my reading corner.
Selecting the copy Lucy mentioned I place it into a fancy bag, a color Jae let out she loved, keeping that aside. I take out my iPad, a little revision won't hurt.
The desk I installed has a prototype gum on it, a z flip notepad and few textbooks. My study routine was simple, timing myself, by the time I'm done and peep at my open blinds the once bright clouds assume a darker shade.
My fingers ease out the tension on my temples, I shut my notepad, arrange my books in a neat manner giving into the satisfying stretch on my plastic chair carrying my weight.
It's been such an eventful day.
Picking up my phone I see a text from my brother, the one person who doesn't make older brothers sound like a controlling and overbearing prude.
He departed for our home town a month back, since he had returned, he asked whether I'll like to come out for dinner, a smile forms on my face, that anticipated dinner just came running to me, all by itself.
Throwing open my closet I select a decent black dress with a slit that hugs my body, the countless types of black dresses I owned surprised me sometimes, the color was one that went with if not everything.
I take out a trench coat, replying Navi. I stick to dressing up and touching my face a bit, his car pulls on the curb and I let myself out.
He pops the passenger door open, greeting me with that usual warmth in his light brown eyes, one that envelopes all of my heart, we may be from different mothers but he doesn't let it show.
He doesn't resent me as much as his mother does, well our mum but who cares.
"Hey pretty lady, you look breath taking tonight" he plants a kiss at the back of palm, a gesture of his I grew fond of.
"Says the finest man in the world" he fills the atmosphere with his laughter, moving the gear stick to drive, he joins the line of cars on the busy road.
It was only eight pm and people hovered around the street like the day had just begun, Navi and I did some little catching up, he pressured me to come over to visit when I have time and I explained to him what had happened to Uruo's grandmother.
He didn't know her on a personal level nonetheless he listened as he was well acquainted with how important of a person she is to me, "how is tutoring treating you?" he continued controlling the wheel with a palm roll, I roll my eyes and that gets him all cracked up.
I slap the side of his chair more than ready to demonstrate how my boss has grown to be a thorn in my flesh, a stubborn one at that.
"He's so scary like, one time he is like I don't pay you to form stupid book clubs" I mimicked Mister Aguirre's baritone voice for Navi to understand why I said he is a scary piece of shit.
From what I knew, Navi was older than my boss with five fat years, and he doesn't treat people that way. Anyways not everyone is the same, "you know you don't have to work Ana, " he emphasizes, quirking a full brow.
"But I enjoy it and it's like adding to what I'm saving up for, Navi" I counter knowing he isn't wrong, I played a major role in Navi's organisation which was created to fund and source the needs of adorable parapletic kids.
Aside from Navi being an automobile engineer, he invests most of his time in children welfare, something I admire.
My older brother raises a questioning brow this time but drops it when I smack his arm, resulting into fits of laughter from the both of us, he assumes a spot in an unfamiliar parking lot, the restaurant before us looks more elegant than he had optioned it to be.
Leading the way, he tucks my arm into his, the feint stomp of our shoes on the asphalt takes us to the front as we're welcomed in by a waiter, I noticed Navi made a reservation for the both of us.
The flow of strung instruments filled the building with there classical resonance keeping me on my tippy toes while we got to our table situated at a spot, closer the clear glass windows that lets one in on the view of the world outside.
I was so caught up, eyes wandering, until I felt Navi tug on my arm to draw my attention. I stared back into his eyes the sickening resemblance had me wanting to gag out all my insides out and run as far away as possible.
Was it funny how I couldn't overcome this or was I just leaving in the prison my mind had fabricated.
Nights of starving, attending to the needs of others neglecting mine as I thought my relevance meant nothing.
I remember a certain time one of Navi's friend's tried talking to me, that day took a wrong turn, the worse kind adding to my pent up misery.
Well I'm all grown up now.
A different waiter, taller than the first cladded in the same attire, carried a tray holding two flutes filled with champagne, Navi was always the one to go for sizzling liquids.
He indulged me in the current work he was carrying on, words that jumbled up halfway as he sipped while I tried to comprehend him.
My eyes earned a mind of it's own, bringing the brim of the glass to meet the nude lipstick coated lips, it strayed far ahead till it landed on someone.
By the time my brains cells screamed at me in realisation, the sweet sour liquid travelled down the wrong pipe, I couldn't say if it was discovering we sat in the sat restaurant or it was the way his eyes seemed like it expected me to find his as he gazed in my direction.
