Chapter Sixteen
Chapter Sixteen - "I Can't Do That To You, Sunshine."
___
Avery's P.O.V
"Hey mom, dad, I'm home!" I shout once I enter the house. I hear the television and I walk into the living room to a girl around my age sitting on the couch, stuffing her face with chips.
"Who the hell are you?" I ask, dropping my bag beside me. The girl looks at me, looks at my attire then back at the television.
"I could ask you the same question." The girl mutters and I raise my eyebrow at the girl.
"Excuse me, your in my home, eating my chips. I would like to know your name." I say, narrowing my eyes at the girl.
"I'm fine." The girl says and I stare at her. Is this girl for real? Are my parents even home?
"Mom! Dad!" I shout again, walking out of the living room. I see my mom appear at the top of the stairs and I gap at her, pointing towards the living room.
"Who is that?" I ask, annoyed. My mom walks down the stairs and tells me to sit at the counter. Once I sit down, I look at my mother, waiting for an explanation.
"Avery... that's Jade." My mom says, smiling slightly. "Your sister."
Wait, what?
"J-Jade?" I ask and my mother nods, tears forming in her eyes. I gap at her.
Jade is my long-lost sister. When she was born, my mom loved her. Since she was her first child, my mom adored Jade until one day. Jade started to change as she growed up. When she turned four, she started to become violent and abusive towards everyone. She couldn't even start school because my mom was afraid that she would start to hit the kids so she gave Jade to my grandmother - my mother's mom - to look after her for a while since my mom didn't know what to do with such a strange child. When Jade turned eight though, she ran away and thats when my mom didn't see her again.
Since I was born a year after she was born, I didn't get along with Jade very well because apparently, she wanted to be an only child. I, on the other hand, wanted to make peace with Jade and be her friend but she didn't want that so she started to hit me too. This was also another reason why my mom had to give Jade to her mother because she didn't want her hurting me or even killing me.
Anyway, we never saw Jade again. My mom called everyone; friends, family... police. They never found her though. The police came to the conclusion that Jade was dead but my mom didn't believe them. She said that it just wasn't possible. When Joshua was born - two years after I was born - my mom decided not to tell him about Jade since Joshua only had Jade in his life for about five years and Joshua doesn't remember the first six years of his life for some reason so yeah, my mother didn't bother explaining him or telling him that he had an older sister - except me - in his life.
"Who found her?" I ask and my mom smiles again, a tear running down her cheek.
"When she ran away, she ran to a cottage where an old lady lived. She looked after her for nine years until your grandmother saw her walking around the shops and thats when she contacted me. Avery... she's living with us." My mom says, more tears running down her cheeks. I can't help but smile.
"Thats... amazing." I say, hugging my mother. She nods.
"I know." I let go of my mom and walk into the living room again.
"Jade?" I ask and her head turns to me, shock filling her face.
"I'm Avery, your younger sister." I say, tears filling my own eyes. Jade stands up, her brown hair bounces up with her. I notice that she has a lip piercing and a nose piercing. Her brown eyes stare into mine and she walks towards me, a small grin on her lips.
"Good to see you again, sis."

"What the fuck!" Joshua shouts, looking between our parents with his mouth open. Our father narrows his eyes at his son and points a finger at him.
"What have I told you about swearing, Joshua?" Our father says and Joshua gaps at him.
"Well maybe if you told me I had an older sister, I wouldn't be this bloody suprised!" Joshua says as he throws his arms around. Jade stands next to our mom, her arms crossed over her chest.
Jade is wearing a grey t-shirt with a black leather jacket on and tight skinny jeans with black combat boots. I furrow my eyebrows at her attire.
Why does she look like one of those bad asses from those teenage movies?
"Joshua, please. At least we told you." Our mom says, trying to calm her son down and Joshua rolls his eyes.
"Whatever. I'm going to bed." He says before walking up the stairs towards his bedroom door. I nod and bite my lip.
"Well, I'm going to do the same since it's pretty late." I say but my father stands in front of me, staring into my brown eyes.
"Jade is staying with you in your room until we get her room organised." He says and I nod, walking around him and up the stairs to my room. I open the door and walk in, landing on my bed.
I pick up my phone and see that there is a message from Logan on there. Before I can click on the message though, I notice Jade walk in, her hair up in a messy bun and her combat shoes are off. She looks at the blow-up mattress beside my bed and shrugs. She walks over to bookcase and picks up a book before sending me a quick glance and falling onto the mattress. I shrug and look at my phone, clicking the message.
Logan: Why do I hear rumors about you making it into the cheerleading team?
I chuckle slightly before typing my reply.
Me: Thats because the rumors are true, Logan. Claire and I are in the cheerleading squad now.
"Who is that?" I hear Jade ask and I look at her to see her lying on her back with the book above her face. I shake my head and look at my phone.
"Just some boy."
"Is he hot?"
He's mine, I wanted to say my but hold it in. I shrug and pick at my nails.
"He's okay."
He's more than okay, he's perfect, my brain says, earning a mental roll of the eyes from me.
"Whats his name?" Jade asks.
"Logan." I reply and I feel my phone vibrate in my hands, making me look at my phone.
Logan: Ah... your girlfriend :)
Me: Go die.
Logan: But then you'll miss me. I can't do that to you, sunshine ;)
I just smile at the message before laying on my pillow, facing the wall. I feel my eyes closing before drifting off into a deep sleep.

"Get your ass up." I hear Jade say and I groan, rubbing my eyes.
"I'm up." I mumble and Jade stops shaking me. I sit up and look at jade who is dressed in a pair of black jeans, maroon top which said the words 'champion' on it and her leather jacket.
"Today's Friday..." I mutter to myself before groaning. Jade looks at me in confusion and I wave her off.
"Don't worry about me. Oh, by the way, I think mom wants to enroll you into our school today." I say and Jade shrugs.
"I'm fine with that." Jade says and I nod. I get out of my bed and walk to the bathroom, knocking on the door.
"Joshua-"
"Don't come in!" I hear him shout and I roll my eyes.
"I need to pee." I say and I hear Joshua groan. The door handle moves to the left before opening and I see Joshua with a massive pimple in the middle of his nose. I hold in a laugh.
"Oh my god..." I mutter before laughing. Joshua sticks up the finger before walking into his room and I shake my head, wiping the tears that were forming in the corner of my eyes.
"Its okay, Rudolph!" I shout and I hear Joshua groan again and I find myself laughing again before entering the bathroom.

"Holy shit!" I gasp as I enter my room after my toilet break. I look at Jade who has her leather jacket off, showing her off tattoos that are running down her arm.
I never knew she has tattoos. Does our parents know?
"Oh, sup." Jade greets and I frown at her, watching as she takes her t-shirt off, revealing a black bra. She quickly grabs a white singlet which has the words 'bad to the bone' on it and throws it over her head.
"You... you have tattoos." I mumble, staring at the skull that is on her shoulder and I hear Jade chuckle.
"Of course. Tattoos are pretty sick, don't you think?" Jade says, changing into black skinny jeans that were ripped at the top of the thighs.
"Uh, I have one tattoo but it's small." I mutter and Jade turns to me, her perfectly-shaped eyebrow raised in the air. I pull the hem of my pajama pants down and show her the large rose that is on the upper part of my thigh. Jade smirks.
"I like it." Jade says and I smile. I look at the rose before pulling my pants up and sitting on my bed.
I got the rose when I turned seventeen which was only a few months ago. Since my mom agreed with me on getting the tattoo, I was shocked because I thought my mom would give me the biggest lecture about how I should not ruin my body but when I showed her the tattoo before I planned on getting it, she agreed. I knew I had to hide it from my father though and that worked for only a week until he saw it when I went swimming. He was furious but after a while, he got over it.
I wonder what our father will think of Jade's tattoos... if he hasn't seen them yet.
Jade puts on her black leather jacket and zips it up. I decide to grab my clothes for school today out of my closet. So, I stand up and walk over to my walk-in closet and pick out a black singlet, a red flannel and black ripped jeans.
I glance at Jade who seems to be picking something out of her pocket and when I see what it is, I gap.
The tattoos, the leather jacket, the smokey make-up look, the piercings, the cigarette that I just saw...
It all makes sense now.
Jade - my sister - is a bad girl like in the movies.
Ugh, fuck.

"Claire!" I shout. Claire turns around and smiles but her smile fades when she sees a girl next to me, also known as my sister.
"Uh, hey Avery. Who is this?" Claire asks, looking at Jade. I smile and place a hand on Jade's shoulder.
"This is Jade, my older sister." I say and Claire gaps. Claire knew the whole story about how Jade ran away and thats probably why my best friend is shocked.
Claire looks at the ground before shaking her head slightly. She looks up and Jade and puts on a smile. "I'm Claire." Claire greets and Jade nods.
"Sup." Jade nods and I look at Jade.
"Do you want to go get your timetable?" I ask her and she shrugs. As we walk into the building towards the office, I notice Logan and he starts walking towards me.
"Hey, how come-" He stops talking about looks at Jade, a slight grin on his face. I notice Jade bite her lip ring which made my blood boil.
"Who are you?" Logan asks Jade and she looks at him, a smirk on her lips.
"Jade." She says and Logan nods.
"I'm Logan. I'm guessing your new here?" Logan asks and Jade nods.
"Well, I've got to run so see you guys later." Logan says before winking at Jade. He flashes me a smile and glares at Claire before running down the hall. I frown.
He winked at her.
The bell rings and I sigh. Before I can say a word, Jade looks at me and grins.
"I'll find the office on my own. You two can go to class." Jade says and before we know it, she starts to walk down the hall. I look at Claire and see her frowning at me.
"I can already see her starting trouble." Claire mumbles and I nod sadly.
He winked at her.
