First Steps
An inhumane screech sounded from the living room, followed by Tate's screams. I skidded into the room, seeing Dyl holding Tate as he cried. He bounced Tate carefully, tapping the pads of his fingers against Tate's mouth.
"What happened?" Dyl looked up at me, still trying to calm Tate.
"I got excited. He's started couch surfing." My eyebrows shot up as I looked at Tate.
"He was?" Dylin nodded, Tate finally calming down from being scared. His patched arm swung up, hand grasping at Dylin's hair.
"Ouch. Yeah. He'd gotten up, standing like he has been, and moved over to me from the other end of the couch. I screeched and scared him, causing him to fall back on his as- butt." I smiled at Dylin, my hand gently entangling in Tate's curls. Tate babbled, looking at me before releasing his grip on Dylin's hair and holding both arms out to me.
"Mama," he cooed, and I took him from Dylin, his two-toned arms wrapping around my neck.
"Hey, Tate." He nuzzled his head into the crook of my neck, and I smiled, turning to take him to the nursery.
