On One of Their Birthdays
I leaned against the wall, watching the stage. Dan stood across from me, talking to a kiddo. Dylin was in the back of the room, watching the Cove. Another kid tugged on my sleeve, and I crouched to eye level. He pointed towards another kid, who was crying.
"He lost his green Bonnie." I nodded, walking over to the kid.
"Hey. I heard you lost your spring Bonnie?" He nodded, tears leaking from his eyes. "I'm gonna start looking for it, okay?" I turned to the other kid. "Do me a favor, please?" He nodded. "See Dan over there? Purple hair?" I pointed to Dan. He nodded again. "Go ask them to help look for the Bonnie, please." He ran off in Dan's direction. I turned back to the crying kid. "Do you remember where you saw it last?" He shook his head. I nodded. "Okay. Dan and I are gonna look for it." He nodded, and I stood.
Dan had already started searching the floor, so I moved to the back of the room to search.
"Hey, babe." I glanced up at Dylin, smiling softly.
"Hey, hon."
"Lookin' for something?" I nodded.
"Plush Spring Bonnie." He nodded, grasping my wrist and pulling me a little into the hallway. His lips crashed into mine, and I closed my eyes momentarily before pushing him away.
"We shouldn't. Work-"
"-can wait." With that, he crashed his lips to mine again. I won't deny that a moan slipped from my vocal cords. He pulled me close, arms wrapping around me.
"Happy birthday," he uttered quietly when he pulled away.
I smiled. "That's all?" A smirk grew on his face.
"Oh, you'll get something better tonight." I blushed, smiling up at him.
"I'll look forward to it."
