4: Concerned Dads🥺

"Y/n! Quit messing around and train!" Gojo yelled out at me.

"I am training," I crossed my arms as I stared at him.

I quickly transported myself behind Nobara as she tried to charge at me for an attack, "It's not my fault she can't catch me."

"Ahhh!" she let out a frustrated shriek. "You're so annoying!!"

Gojo stormed over to me, the irritation radiating off him, "Your technique is fine for a defensive strategy, but what about when you're alone and you actually have to attack!?"

I just stood there silently as he towered over me. I really didn't have anything to say because, for once, he might be right.

He eyed me carefully, leaning in closer as he spoke with a questioning voice, "Y/n."

"Hmm?" a raised a brow at him.

He lightly grabbed underneath my chin, tilting my face around at different angles.

"Oi! Knock it off!" I complained as I smacked his hand away.

"You haven't been sleeping, have you?"

"I—"

"Don't answer that," he quickly cut me off. "Because whatever you say will be a lie. I can already tell."

He stood up straight once again, "You look like shit."

"Wow. Thanks sensei, you asshole," I mumbled out as I crossed my arms again, avoiding his gaze.

"Nightmares? Or something else?" he asked in a low voice. I really didn't want to talk about it so I just nodded my head.

He sighed loudly, "Come here." He brought me into a hug, rubbing my back gently, "You should be telling me these things, Y/n. I can't help you if I don't know what's going on."

"Everything ok?"

My head peeked out around Gojo to see my other sensei.

"Nanami!!" I yelled as I transported out of Gojo's embrace and threw my arms around Nanami. He wasn't always a fan of hugs, but these two felt like my dads, and I already knew I was their favorite, so he tolerated it.

He patted my back as he always did before I dropped down to the floor. Him and Gojo were just so tall in comparison to me. Not that I was short, but I wasn't tall either. Just average.

Honestly, I've always been pretty average, in every sense of the word: average height, average size, average skill and strength.

The biggest exception, my mind.

I remembered everything, unfortunately. I learned quickly. I was the best here at strategy and planning, especially under pressure.

My intelligence was unmatched, but that definitely wouldn't save me if I had to fight a curse. It may give me an advantage, but unless I can execute an attack plan, nothing else would really matter.

Still, it made me a pretty invaluable team member. And I did what I could to keep myself useful.

At the end of the day, I wasn't planning on doing much professional sorcery.

Shoko taught me to heal, something I actually picked up easily, so I was going to stick with her once I finished my schooling.

Until then though, Gojo and Nanami insisted I learn everything I can, especially since they said I had an unusually large amount of cursed energy.

They thought I could become one of the strongest if I tried harder, but I really didn't want to try all that much. I had a below-average work ethic if I'm being honest.

Since my memory and intellect made most things come easy to me, whenever something didn't come naturally, I wasn't very interested.

It was a habit they were desperately trying to break, rather unsuccessfully I might add.

"Y/n, are you ready to show me your technique?" he asked as Gojo walked up to us.

Gojo smirked, "It's pretty cool. At least for her it is."

"Hey!" I laughed as I pretended to kick him. I wasn't going to, but his barrier quickly stopped me anyway.

"GOJO!!" I whined. "Not cool!!! Let me in!"

He laughed and took it down so I could hug him, patting my head softly.

"Alright alright," Gojo smiled. "Go show off a little."

"Right!" I ran out into the field away from everyone else. Inumaki was here, and he didn't see it yesterday so I was excited for him to watch.

He'd already been recommended to Grade 1, and was definitely the strongest student here. I really hoped he'd be impressed, even just a little bit.

We had barely spoken since last night. I don't think either one of us really knew what to say or how to act. I could barely even think about it without getting all flustered.

Honestly, last night felt like a dream, and every time I thought about it, I felt like I was floating on a cloud.

After we watched the stars for a bit, he walked me back to my building and gave me a hug goodnight. That was our first time ever being that close, but I really wish he would've kissed me.

I probably would've kissed him myself had his mouth not been covered.

"Ok, Nanami!" I called out. "Come give me your best shot!"

He glanced over at Gojo suspiciously, obviously skeptical about the whole thing. Gojo just nodded once, a proud smirk on his face.

"Ok," Nanami huffed, almost annoyed sounding.

He walked closer towards me, taking out his sword from behind his back. I really wasn't expecting him to just go straight for his main attack, but I guess I'll have to make it work.

I watched him closely as he launched forward, ready to swing on me. Since it was so new, I wouldn't be able to stop all of him. Instead, I focused in on the blade.

He wasn't really holding back with his force either... Damn, I could've at least used a warmup shot.

As he got closer, I honed in on his point of impact, creating a purple shield right before he was about to hit me.

He smirked as his attack didn't go an inch further, completely deflected by my new technique.

"Some type of force field?" he asked.

"Yea!" I beamed back. "Isn't it coo—"

He immediately began attacking again, cutting me off entirely as I had to refocus on blocking him time and time again.

With each strike, he reinforced it with more and more cursed energy, and it was really weighing on me.

"What the hell Nanami!" I yelled out as I continued to transport myself around while creating purple shields to block his impacts. "Stop already!"

Still, he wouldn't let up.

I finally got so sick of it, that as one of his blows hit my force field, I focused on launching the blockade forward, testing to see if I could use it as an attack.

I was stunned as the purple barrier fired towards him, pushing straight past his cursed energy and colliding into him.

It obviously caught Nanami a bit off guard too as he was thrown back some meters before he landed on his feet and skidded backwards.

"Whoa," I mumbled out as I watched. I genuinely didn't know I could do that, and I probably never would've thought of it had Nanami not been pissing me off.

"Ahh! She didn't do that yesterday!!" Gojo yelled excitedly.

"So cool!!" Yuuji agreed.

Nanami stood stall again, "I'm very impressed, Y/n."

"Honestly, me too," I laughed as I rubbed the back of my neck. "I had no idea I could do that."

"Yes, well, I'm assuming the defensive aspect will come rather easily to you, so you'll need to spend most of your time developing your offensive attacks."

I shrugged, "Ok, I can do that."

"I literally just told you that earlier," Gojo sighed out.

"Mm, but that was before I knew what I could do," I laughed. "Now I have something kind of cool to practice."

Nanami placed his hand on my shoulder as he spoke, "We've all known you're much stronger than you allow yourself to be. I hope you're finally starting to see that too."

"I'll do my best to make you proud Nanami," I smiled up at him.

I was actually excited to know about this new use of my new technique, but I felt pretty uneasy about it. I just don't think I have what it takes to be a real sorcerer.

"I'm already proud of you," he smiled softly at me.

For a moment, I thought we were having a special moment... that is until he ruined it completely.

"Now," he raised an eyebrow at me. "Let's talk about your sleep."

Gojo smirked at me, his hands cockily behind his head, "Told you, you look like shit."

"Yes, it's true."

I rolled my eyes as I walked away, "You guys are the worst fucking dads."

Gojo laughed loudly, "No! We're just very concerned dads!"

"Watch your mouth," Nanami grumbled. "And quit calling me your dad."

Gojo threw his arm around Nanami's shoulder as he called out to me, "We still need to talk about your sleep, dear Y/n! So we'll stop by your room later!"

I kept my eyes to the ground as I walked away, trying to hide the fact that a huge smile was stretching its way across my face.

I'm so glad they took me in... I really am so lucky to be here.
