Day One With Nick
Author's Note: the song Caution is original and written by me.
>> Judy's POV <<
"Uh, sorry to say this, Flash, but you were speeding. And I'm afraid both speeding and street-racing are against the law," I stated, happy to have finally had a normal job to do. Well, other than parking duty. But that was over, and I also had my best friend as my partner. "We'll have to take you back to the ZPD."
As we drove the DMV sloth to ZPD, all Nick said the whole time was "Flash, Flash, hundred-yard dash". He even managed to make a song out of it. And, knowing Nick, the song was awful. But still catchy.
"Can you shut up?" I pleaded, trying to sound threatening. By Nick's amused expression, I could tell it wasn't working.
He made a face. "I don't know, carrots. Can I?"
I rolled my purple eyes and turned them back to the road.
"Ugh," he groaned sarcastically. "Why do you take everything so seriously?"
I felt a flush rise to my face. Why was I getting so hot? "I -" I began to say, but I didn't know how to finish that sentence. I just inhaled quietly and tried to drown out Flash's sluggish complaints and Nick's horrid singing.
We turned Flash over to Clawhauser, who swore he would take care of it. But, knowing that cheetah, he would just eat some doughnuts, fantasize about Gazelle, and hope his responibilities would go away. He might be a friendly guy, but he doesn't know how to take care of himself.
I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around quickly only to see a large black bear standing next to me silently. I recongnized her as Melanie, one of the rougher officers at ZPD. But as she waved to me, she didn't seem all that threatening.
"Hey, Judy," she asked. "Would you want to come to a party with me? Like, as a friend? It won't be too crazy, it's just a couple of guys from work."
My brain whirled at the prospect. A party? I'd never been to a real party before, but I had never really imagined what one would be like, either. I hardly knew anyone I worked with besides Nick anyway. I didn't really consider before I answered, I was so excited.
"Sure?" I said like it was a question.
Melanie smiled. "Cool. Thanks!" She filled me in on the location and time and walked off towards the door at the front of the building where her friends were waiting. Her boyfriend was there, too. He was a black bear, just like her. I wondered if anyone had ever had a relationship with someone who wasn't the same type of animal as them. Did others find it weird? It didn't seem strange to me.
I waved a hello to Nick, who seemingly appeared out of nowhere. He followed me as we began to walk home. I had payed for his apartment, which is across the hall from mine, when he started training for the ZPD. He had nowhere to live once he graduated, so I had to get him a place. Even if it was an awful one.
"So, you're going to a party," Nick said, faking sadness. "Without me?"
"I'm Melanie's guest," I explained. "And guests can't have their own guests! That's, like, the Law of the Party."
"That isn't even a rule," Nick contradicted. "It's a suggestion."
I shook my head in anger. Nick looked as if he were about to say something, but I plugged in my earbuds and started to play "Caution", one of the more unpopular songs by Gazelle. It was a great song, it just didn't become viral for some reason.
I was drinking from a wishing well
Dive in, you can swim in my hopes and my dreams
This world, I swear it's hell
With all of its convoluted schemes
So don't think I didn't warn you
Don't think that I lied
Just take caution
And you'll be alright
I paused at a cross walk, waiting for Nick to catch up to me. He was lingering behind, just like he always did. He appeared to be lost in thought.
Suddenly, he asked, "Do you want to go get coffee tomorrow morning or something?"
*raises eyebrows* OOH...
Nick and Judy, sitting in a tree: K-I-S-S-I-N-G
Me: Shut it, you fangirls.
^ What was that? ^
I have problems.
Okay, so I think I'll have a new chapter by tomorrow... Enjoy!
