hi butterflies, fulfilling my promise, Jazz Brown in the media. I always pictured her as 'Morgan McQuaid' aka Jasmine Tatyana Brown.

{ -31- } : P U R P L E W E A R S B O O T S.

Lightening flashed ahead in the gathering intimidatingly dark clouds.

The type of rain storm that ruined sleep was about to descend- the type that would have you awake at 3am wondering if rapture had taken place and if your mom was still in her bed or had already made it to heaven.

It was long after dusk and the school yard was eery and ominous.

Aubrey contemplated between going to the garden where no one would hear her cry and searching for her cousin.

She had had the nightmare again- the fright of that cold night in January resurfacing alongside the torturing flashes of the vending machine exploding, those cold lilac eyes, how the electric wires had sparked and those purple rain boots.

Talking to Mrs Payne Justice, Bubble Academy's Guidance Counselor had flooded her with a sea of relief but it sure reopened old wounds.

With her mommy nowhere near Bubble Academy, Aubrey knew her only option was her geeky cousin. Before she knew it, she found herself roaming the awfully silent hallway searching for Jazz Brown.

"Freak!"

"Aubrey! How is my favorite cousin doing?" Jazz's tone drooled sarcasm.

"You're wearing the prep uniform, that's a first."

Jazz nodded staring down at the purple and ash checkers dress, "I figured since I'd be graduating in a few I should try it out and it's not so bad."

"I remembered something else..."

"Okay?" Jazz encouraged her to continue, twisting the door knob and pushing open the door that led into the computer room.

The lights were so bright Jazz winced, readjusting her glasses on her nose before her eyes finally adjusted to the blast.

In the brightness, Jazz noticed Aubrey's demeanor.

"Why do you look so disappointed?"

"I'm afraid you're the only one I can trust."

Jazz gaped at the sly remark.

A few months back and she would have actually been offended. Of course, she was Aubrey's last resort. It wouldn't be the first time she was an option.

She was used to the subtle disregard. She only ever mattered when there were no other preferable options.

"Of course, what was I thinking? You're only soliciting my help because I'm always available, you know that one that never matters unless it's the end of the straw. Valueless. Unimportant."

"Let's not do this right now." Aubrey sighed out, pleading softly.

Like it or not, they both had just each other.

Placing her laptop on the wooden surface of her usual space, Jazz relented, "Well get on with it..."

"Remember those rubber boots we came across one summer a few years ago when we went holiday shopping?"

"Wellie Wishers?"

"Yes. The person who attacked me had on purple Wellie Wishers, it had an intricate floral pattern and a purple ribbon at the mouth."

Jazz's eyes glowed, "I might have an idea..."

"Who?" Aubrey prompted.

"No one." Jazz deadpanned, "Aubrey we are going to need more than that and honestly I am tired--"

She stopped short of completing her sentence on noticing the newspaper article stuck in-between the desk frame.

Her stomach knotted.

"Excuse me."

"Jazz, I need you right now."

Jazz fled from the computer room leaving an emotionally wrecked Aubrey Simon in her wake.

The loud rumble of thunder and intense flash of lightening welcomed her the moment she stepped into the school yard. Jazz jumped in fear but didn't falter as she half ran half jogged to the library.

Just like the computer room, the lights in the library were florescent bright.

She found him easily and without thinking slammed the article on the reading desk, the impact repositioning all his reading supplies.

The singular act drew stares and whispers of "ssh" at them from fellow library users.

Sure enough, he was modifying the script for their playlet.

"Evening to you too." Jian mumbled, leaning back in his seat.

"You were expelled?" Jazz whisper yelled.

In a swift move that surprised her and made her gasp, Jian grabbed her wrist and pulled her along until they were between the bookshelf maze. Hidden away from prying eyes and eavesdropping ears of the gossip and rumor mill.

She frantically waved her hands in his face.

"Where did you get that?"

"The article was conveniently waiting for me in the computer room. I can't believe you were expelled from your old school!"

Jian's hand gripped her mouth, "Jackie, someone could hear you! Yes, I got kicked out of my old school and my parents threatened to send me to military school because I couldn't seem to stay out of trouble with my natural flair for always getting into fights."

He let go of her mouth, his eyes begging her not to scream.

"Then a letter came in the mail with a phone number and that's how I came across this mysterious girl over Christmas break that told me she could pull some strings and get me into Bubble academy."

Jazz gasped already knowing where this was headed, recalling the note in Head Mistress May's office of PnP thanking her for the help with Aubrey's bracelet.

It explained how he got admitted midsession.

"I believed it was impossible but you don't question miracles. Especially when you'd be securing admission into a school that would get your strict parents off your back."

Jazz remained silent, deep in thought.

How could Purple be everywhere?

"I knew the offer was too good to be true and so I asked what she wanted in return for the grand gesture and she told me she'll think about it. Just before we left for B-I-B, I received a note. Do you know what it said?"

"What?" Jazz asked, the dread already crawling up her spine.

Jian took her hand in his and toyed with the Purple ring on her middle finger.

"They want the ring?"

"No." Jian breathed, "They want you."

Jazz staggered backwards out of his mesmerising grip.

"Believe me, I was equally as stunned as you are but I promise I won't let anything happen to you." Jian said, stepping closer and taking her by her arms.

"Did you perhaps get a name?"

"Nope. She never told me her name."

Jazz faltered.

Jian leaned closer placing his forehead against hers, "No harm will come to you, I promise."

Jazz couldn't find her voice. She was purple's next target.

But why?

What were her chances of getting lucky and surviving a near death experience? She was no Aubrey Simon.

Her mind was so absent, she hadn't realized Jian taking off her glasses until her vision blurred momentarily.

"What are you--"

Jian's lips hovered over hers, swallowing up her words.

A frightened gasp especially her lips, she was trapped.

She shoved him back on impulse, her breathing rapid.

The clogs in her brain were ticking away, Jian Shepherd just tried to kiss her.

Her eyes glossed and her voice broke, "Th- This... Is all t- too much."

Jazz Brown fled for her lips virginity.

She gasped as heavy rain droplets whipped her neck, face and arms.

Wind roared in the school yard as the rain came down unforgiving on everything around the surrounding with the occasional flashes of lightening and burst of thunder.

Jazz was drenched in seconds and she could barely see.

A group of girls were giggling ahead walking in the direction of the Refectory, each of the three of them holding an umbrella.

Another lightening flash amidst the unrelenting downpour.

Despite the fogginess, what her eyes saw made her pause in her escape.

There was no mistaking it.

Wellie Wishers purple rain boots that matched Aubrey's description to the last.

Jazz's heart stomped in her chest.

There was also no mistaking whose feet were shod into those boots.

Those brunette waves.
