Night time: Hour viii. pt. ii. - An Obsessive Mindset

Delirious couldn't believe it for a second.

He didn't think that his group was genuinely around there at all. But there he was, staring up at the Caucasian man and at the Mexican he thought was dead. Carlos smiled, "I-I bet you're feliz to see us."

"No kidding. . ." Delirious muttered incredulously.

"Ah, it was nothin', the fucker didn't even get to see me until blam! I got 'em." Wildcat smirked as he twirled the gun in his hand.

"I. . . I appreciate your enthusiasm on this situation Wildcat." Delirious murmured; still shocked.

"No problem, it's what I do." Wildcat looked around, "Now let's go, just in case this guy had some company or something."

Carlos nodded in agreement and he approached the clown, holding his hand out. "N-Need a hand?"

Delirious nodded -- still in a slightly dazed state -- and took his hand. Carlos helped his friend up and smiled in a friendly way at him. "Thanks guys. . ." Delirious said. "I mean, for saving me."

"Don't wooooorry about it." Wildcat assured, "I just did what I was told to do."

"Told to do?"

Carlos blushed, "A-As I predicted, they were at the bank, p-pero once the shooting started, Wildcat and everyone else had gone away and I-I had to dodge a few bullets like you just to get to them. B-But then I-I saw a very mean man standing over you and I went to go get ayuda."

"And when we went to go see where you were at, you were gone and I almost didn't believe mustachio dude until you ran out of the bank and a guy tackled you, so consider yourself lucky." Wildcat finished. He then started walking into the trees, leading the way.

Delirious followed the two once Carlos started moving. "So. . . It was just a matter of luck then?"

Carlos looked away, "N-Not exactly. . ."

"How so?"

"W-Well, I wasn't going to stop looking for you either way, I-I mean, I would have felt guilty if I had left you alone, so. . ." Carlos admitted.

"It's fine. You shouldn't have blamed yourself. Just, look at the bright side. You actually found me. So just think about that." Delirious didn't think that out of their whole group, Carlos would end up caring about him.  But after all those terrible events they had just gone through, he could see why they had formed a bond.

Delirious stayed quiet before asking, "Where's everyone else?"

"In a little base we made, and don't worry they're fine, surprisingly." Wildcat looked around warily. Delirious knew that they had also gone through hard moments, which made him wonder if everyone really was ok -- not just physically.

"A little base? Where?" Delirious asked quietly, just in case there was someone sneaking around them. Ever since Vanoss's ambush, he knew that they couldn't keep their guards down. Or else someone could get hurt.

"Eh, you'll see." Wildcat brushed his question off. Delirious knew he couldn't ask too many questions, but he couldn't help it. He was curious, since he hadn't seen them in hours, which is a lot to him considering that they were currently in the purge.

Delirious looked behind his shoulder once too many times, and the pig immediately picked up on this. "Hey. . . Are you okay? What's wrong?"

"Sorry I'm just. . ." He took one more look, ". . . Paranoid. That's all. Don't focus on me though."

"Ah, well if you spot anything just tell me, a'ight?"

"Yeah sure. . ." The three stopped at another park, which was pretty isolated, to say the least. Delirious looked at the children's playground; trying to look for the guys. He then averted his gaze to Wildcat, who went over to the playground's little security area, or the little building that was always near one if the park was large enough. He knocked on the door and Delirious then noticed a small dim light inside the slightly open window.

"Who's there?"

"Your mom."

"Oh, come in." Delirious heard a few faint chuckles come from inside and the door opened, revealing his old acquaintance, Mini.

The three do as they're told and they greet their group. Delirious couldn't help but consider them somewhat 'special' to him. He did spend time with them before the accident happened, so maybe he could end up caring about them later, in a way. Lui welcomed him with a wide grin, "Aye, long time no see buddy."

Delirious smiled softly as he gave him a quick hug, "Hi Lui."

"I'm so glad to see you two in one piece." Lui said.

"He thought you two were dead meat." Mini grinned. "We bet on who would make it out alive-"

"BUT," Lui interrupted whilst he glared at his companion, "It was just a topic for small talk, but may I remind you that I won." He added smugly.

Mini and Wildcat grumbled under their breathes while they handed Lui a couple dollar bills. Delirious didn't really know how to respond to this, but he felt slightly relieved when Carlos spoke up. "So, what happened after, you know, the whole explosion?"

"Well, to put this in short. When we got separated we got attacked, we won obviously if you couldn't tell, and we gathered a few supplies as well." Mini prompted. "But that's basically it, we got rid of a few baddies, got some money, you know, the usual."

Delirious knew there was more to that than 'the usual', he was just too shy to ask. The little building was cold, but he knew that they couldn't risk making a fire and getting attention from other people that could easily ambush them at any given moment. So Delirious had no choice but to snuggle up in his blue hoodie and hope for the best. Moo then rubbed his arms, "What about you guys? How was your experience?"

Delirious and Carlos looked at each other. How would they explain it? Delirious knew they couldn't risk and tell them everything that had happened. That would waver the trust that they had built throughout the Purge, and the group wouldn't be able to trust them. "W-Well," Delirious stuttered, "We uh, we walked through the sewers, met someone new, stayed down there and rested, got out of the sewers and ran into some baddies, then we ran into Vanoss, ran away, but then our new buddy got Uh, killed by him, then Carlos and I got separated when running from him, and I guess Carlos found Tyler and the two rescued me. That's. . . Basically it. Right, Carlos?"

Carlos immediately nodded in agreement. He seemed to catch Delirious's drift, "S-Si! Right, that's what. . . Happened. . ."

"Oh man, that sounds. . ." Brock rubbed the back of his neck. "Intense."

Wildcat's mouth fell agape, "You guys ran into Vanoss? How are you still alive?"

"Uhm," Delirious blushed at the mention of the asian's name, "I honestly have no clue. Well, not all of us survived but yeah we. . . Managed to do so."

"Woah. I would have shit my pants if I'm being honest." Mini admitted. "It's not everyday where you run into a vicious murderer. Well I know we did earlier at the bank but, I wasn't as scared knowing that everyone I trusted was there with me."

Delirious frowned, "Maybe not, but it happened, unfortunately. . ." The fact that he hesitated upon saying that last word made him extremely anxious.

"Well, you're here now." Lui said, obviously trying to lighten up the mood, "So you don't have to worry anymore, well at least for now."

Carlos gave him half a smile, "Yeah that's true. B-But it's fine. If anything else happens, at least we'll be prepared for it." Delirious knew that the mexican truly didn't believe that, he wouldn't blame him if he balled out crying at that very moment.

"That's the spirit!" Lui praised. "Now, all we have to do is get through the night in here and we'll be fine."

Delirious looked away as he pressed his chin against his knees. Yeah, I hope- no, I pray that we'll be fine for the rest of the night.
He slowly looked up and glanced at the window.  He stared at it for a while, and his eyes squinted at the environment. Suddenly, he bit back a shriek when his tired eyes caught a hint of red, "G-Guys!"

Everyone got extremely tense or nervous when they heard him speak. Wildcat got his gun out, "What is it Delirious???"

Delirious just pointed a shaky finger towards the window and all five men cautiously looked out the window as well. Moo though, looked extremely confused, ". . . What are we supposed to be looking at?"

"Th-The window! I s-saw someone!"

"Holy shit who?" Moo asked as he scooted over towards the door.

Delirious bit his lip, "V-Vanoss."

"Vanoss?!?!" Mini looked like he was about to shit himself. "A-Are you sure? I-It could have been anything, u-uh, like-"

"I swear it was h-him!" Delirious tightened the grip on his knees. He had to admit, he wasn't completely sure if it was just a coincidence that the thing he had seen was wearing a red jacket, but it was too good to be true.

Wildcat grabbed a shot gun and reloaded it, "Lui, Mini and I will get a head start out the door. You, Brock and Carlos will look out the windows to see if you can find him and give us a heads up."

Carlos looked frightened and shaky, but he managed to give the pig a slight nod. Once the other three approached the door, Delirious took a peek out the window, just as he had been told to do. He could see nothing but the dark bushes that could be seen outside near the trees and the neighboring children's playground. He looked over at the door, where Wildcat and Mini were already halfway out.

All of a sudden, he heard Wildcat's confused voice, ". . . Uh, I don't see him."

Carlos and Moo then looked out with a little more confidence. Delirious though, didn't know how to react, "What are you talking about! I-I swear I saw him!"

Lui frowned, "Yeah. I don't see anyone either. . ."

"Wh-What if he's hiding or something?" Carlos proposed while he stepped a bit away from the window.

Luis set his gun down near the door, "Maybe, but that would be the only choice. If that's not the case then Delirious, I have no fucking clue what you saw."

Delirious bit his lip and scratched the back of his neck in confusion as he leaned against the brick wall. Did he just imagine things? No, he couldn't have. He knew he saw him. Delirious desperately looked out the door, hoping that Mini and Wildcat found something, anything. Anything that proved that he wasn't going insane. But once the two came back in with puzzled looks on their faces, Delirious gave up.

"Yeah, we checked but we didn't really see anything out there." Wildcat said.

"Yeah Delirious what the hell did you see?" Mini asked him.

"I don't know I. . ." Delirious sighed, "Nevermind, I don't know what I saw either."

Mini rolled his eyes, "Great, you don't even know what you saw either."

Lui frowned as he leaned against his seat. "At least we checked to see if there was anything dangerous around us. That's always a good idea, especially in the situation we're in right now."

Delirious unrolled the sleeping bag, too embarrassed to glance at his teammates in case of seeing disappointment in their eyes. Oh well, at least they'll know that I'm not teamed up with Vanoss. . .
The clown snapped out of it and he realized that they were now having a conversation; disregarding the earlier event. He settled into the sleeping bag; their voices sounding muffled to him as time went by and he lost interest.

I can't be crazy. I can't. I. . . Or am I? I can't be. Not in less than a few hours. Is the whole night getting to me? Delirious anxiously turned to face the wall. He was lost in his crazy, paranoid mind, and his thoughts seemed to gradually consume him as seconds turned into minutes and they made him more and more uneasy.

As he snuggled up into his sleeping bag in paranoia, he couldn't help but think,

Wow, so it turns out I really am delirious after all.
