Night Time : Hour i. [Pt. i.]The Crew
Jonathan would be known as Delirious.
It was his pet name, one that he was called as a small joke or reference as a child. 'Oh Jonathan, you're so delirious,' his father would tell him while messing his hair up. Too bad he hadn't seen his father or mother in a very long time. Times change, as they usually say. Friends would call him this too just to mess with him, but Jonathan normally wouldn't mind.
But now this nickname was not one of friendship.
Delirious didn't want to become close nor become acquainted with these fellow criminal-like people. Sure, he would be considered a criminal some time soon, but it's not like he had friends to terrify anyway. Delirious knew he was being somewhat of a hypocrite but he didn't really give a shit. "So Delirious, have you gone out purging before?"
He turned his attention to a friend of Lui's; this guy's voice had a thick irish accent, and his friends called him Nogla. Of course, Delirious could understand why Nogla would ask him a more broad question, since he was also as uncomfortable as him, "Actually, no, I haven't. I would just sit back and watch the event go on on television."
"You're kidding?" This time, a man with a pig mask and a white helmet asked (God knows why this imbecile is wearing such a ridiculous thing on top of a mask, what is he afraid of, falling on his head?). Wildcat, the oddest of the group by far. If there was one way to describe him, 'eccentric' would be the most appropriate term.
"I'm not." Delirious answered gruffly.
"Well then you'd better get in with the program mi amigo." Another man said. He was British though, although he didn't sound like it. His name was MiniLadd. And that was the group for ya'.
"Oh I'm sure he will." Lui said, patting Delirous's back.
It was odd to Delirious, to see not a single soul on the streets or sidewalks. He recalled this as they walked to the city which was luckily not too far away. They walked down the sidewalk of a bridge, their shoes pressing onto the concrete in utter silence. Nogla's attempt at a conversation didn't seem to work, apparently. Delirious cleared his throat, "So, what's the plan?"
"We're going to head to the city, steal the first few stores or department stores and try avoiding Evan's group as much as possible." Lui explained broadly.
Delirious arched an eyebrow at him, "Evan?"
"Remember the guy you bumped into earlier." Lui said.
"Oh, um, yeah. What about him?" Delirious frowned, sadly recalling the past.
"That's Evan. Every year his group causes more deaths than any others." Lui sighed, gripping his baseball bat.
"The crimes range from murder, rape, homicide, oh, and did I say murder?" Wildcat smirked. "But whatever, it's all legal right now anyway."
"Right, anyway, we have to keep away from them, no matter what. If you see them, hide, or pretend to be dead among other corpses, it always seems to work." Mini explained.
"And if he sees you, or any of us?" Delirious asked curiously.
"Depends, if he likes you, he'll kill you himself. If he's 'Meh' about you, he'll just have some clone of his' kill you, or maybe if he hates you with a passion, he'll leave you alone and find a way to kill you later or hunt you down next year." Nogla said while placing a free hand on Delirious's shoulder.
"Wow, that sounds, harsh." Delirious muttered.
"The man's nuts." Lui laughed. "Who knows why he acts this way."
"Maybe he saw a friend or his family get murdered in front of him." Wildcat joked.
"Sounds reasonable. I guess we'll have to go with that theory, at least, for now." Nogla concluded, making the others nod, all accept Delirious. He felt nervous, speaking about such a man like that. Next thing they all know, he's right behind them and he won't hesitate in killing them all right at the spot.
"I don't know guys, I don't think it's smart to talk about Evan like this. Hell, what if he's right around the corner or something?" Delirious asked, his heart beating against his chest once he realized that they were about to enter the city.
"Loosen up dude, you chose to tag along, no?" Mini shook Delirious softly, a soft smile appearing on his face.
"I know I know but, may I remind you that this is my first time out on a Purge?" Delirious spat.
"Ok we get it." Nogla commented as he rolled his eyes.
"Well boys, looks like we're here." Wildcat announced, looking at the tall buildings and the following skyscrapers in the horizon, but they were hardly visible due to the dark night sky.
"What's the closest building, Nogla?" Lui asked.
"Looks like an apartment, want to make that our first stop?" Wildcat grinned, his attention over at a thoughtful looking Lui.
He shrugged, "I guess so."
Wildcat fist pumped the air, "Alright! Come on." He and MiniLadd entered the building, their footsteps being heard as they climbed the stairs.
Lui started making his way up as well, but he went at a much slower pace, only leaving Delirious and Nogla. The irish man frowned, "Delirious, can I tell you something?"
Delirious looked at Nogla, "Hm, what is it?"
Nogla's eyes lowered down to the ground, "I, I don't feel comfortable doing this, you know, going out and killing people."
"What do you mean?"
Nogla glared at him, his glasses gleaming from the orange light coming from the light post above them, "Are you this dense?! I said I don't want to do this stupid shit anymore!"
Delirious's eyes widened, "Ok ok I can see that. Can you please, oh you know, shut up now?"
"Delirious listen to me. I can tell you don't want to do this either. I don't want to kill anyone, it just pains me to know that I'll have to murder someone year after year at an event that lasts for twelve hours. It sucks, and I hate it with all my heart, and I'm just sick of it!" Nogla protested, his voice now raised at a shout.
"Nogla lower your voice please." Delirious pleaded uneasily as he looked down the street, slowly backing up against the shadows.
"I don't give a shit anymore clown! I don't care who listens, and if they are then good! I don't want to do this anymore! I don't want to stress over a yearly holiday where it can end with your meaningless demise or your even more meaningless victory! All we do is entertain our so called government. I can't take it anymore, I can't-"
"Hm, what do we have here?"
All color drained from Nogla's face as both he and Delirious looked over at a dark alley, their eyes meeting an emerging tall man with a red jacket, while other figures appeared from beside him. Delirious recognized him almost immedietely, and Nogla seemed to have done so as well due to him sputtering the following name,
"E-Evan?"
