Daytime

It was the same deal every year.

You'd either go purging, or you wouldn't. What would Jonathan have preferred? Doing neither. That's what he thought to himself as he stared at the televisions behind the window of a television store. 'The Annual Purge is coming', they said repeatedly. And it was true, it was Purge day, which was a full twelve hours of you staying indoors and praying that someone wouldn't enter your home and put a gun in your mouth, or going out and acting crazy for twelve hours with doing whatever you pleased.

'What the hell am I doing, is this really a good idea?' He had asked himself as he looked through his weapons which were laid on a table in a perfect line, and all of them were in his possession. What did he want to do, exactly? Go out into the world full of dangers and people who wanted to kill him all around? He knew he couldn't go running out there on his own. He knew better than this. 'Do I just get some alliances? I've always been kind of a loner. . .'

Jonathan sighed and put his weapons away. He was in his garage, and he had been pacing the small room on what he should do. He had never gone purging before, nor had he planned on it anytime soon. But, all the fuss. . . He kind of wanted to go in on it and see what it looked like, to know what it felt like, to run free and do whatever you wanted from the worst to the least illegal of crimes. There was only one option he had left. He had to make alliances, whether he liked it or not. He hesitantly went outside into the neighborhood, and luckily there were a few hours until the Purge began, so he had enough time to look around. As he exited the garage, he was lucky enough to spot a man from across the street, who looked like he was looking through some old boxes. Looking for the perfect opportunity, Jonathan walked up to the neighbor and gave him the biggest, and friendliest smile, "Hey, you need any help?"

Surprised, the man looked up at Jonathan as he dusted off a monkey mask which was in his hands, "Oh, hello! And uh, I do actually, I'm glad you asked. Carry these boxes for me over to my garage."

Jonathan crossed his fingers and hoped the alliance thing would work out, so he tried to be as friendly as possible. He picked up a box and indeed moved it to the garage. It was a pretty long process for the following boxes, so it turned out a lot tiring than Jonathan expected it to be. Once they finished, he let out a sigh of relief, "Damn, that was quite a handful."

The man nodded in agreement, "Agreed, and uh, I didn't catch your name?"

"Oh, my name's uh. . . D-Delirious." Jonathan lied as he bit his tongue and shook the man's hand.

"Delirious? Interesting name. My name's Lui, Lui Calibre." Lui introduced himself as he smirked at him.

"So, Lui, the Purge is in a few hours, and I'm curious, what do you plan on doing this year?" Jonathan asked, hoping to get a good answer from him.

Lui sighed and he scratched the back of his neck, "I uh, I'm going to go purging. . ."

"Really? Are you going on your own, or do you have some sort of alliance in mind?" Jonathan silently hoped that Lui wouldn't suspect anything from him, so he hoped he wouldn't go overboard with the questions.

"Alliance, definitely the alliance choice. I mean, if you decided to go out there on your own, then you're either the biggest sociopath or the biggest retard the world has to offer." Lui said as he sat on his front porch. He then turned his attention back to Jonathan, "What about you? Are you going on your own?"

Embarrassed, Jonathan looked around uncomfortably, "Well, I have no one as an alliance and-"

Lui laughed and stopped him before Jonathan could continue explaining, "No need to tell me anything else, you could have just asked in the beginning."

Jonathan blinked, "What do you mean?"

"Come on clown, it's pretty obvious you're looking around for someone to alliance with this year, you could have just asked, you know." Lui explained as he got up and faced him. Jonathan was pretty used to the nickname 'clown', since his face was indeed painted as a clown's, just so he would be prepared for the purge. He just knew he wouldn't like the people he would make an alliance with. And he definitely did not want to become their friends. He just thought he wouldn't feel comfortable being friends with murderers. But, wouldn't he be a murderer too if he killed someone in a few hours? At least, if he made it out alive?

"Well, I guess it is pretty obvious, isn't it?" Jonathan muttered as he looked down at the ground.

"I have friends in an alliance with me, I'm going to have to tell them about you or else they'll probably shoot you down once they spot you out at night." Lui joked, grinning at Jonathan. Even if it was just a small joke, chills ran down Jonathan'd spine, but he still smiled at Lui.

"Yeah, try not to kill me." Jonathan said as he started walking backwards.

"I'll try not to!" Lui called back, just as he turned around and walked to his garage.

Jonathan kept walking back, until he bumped into something making him panic a bit. He turned around and he came face-to-face with someone he had never seen before. This guy wore a red jacket and had black sunglasses over his eyes. He was definitely taller than Jonathan, and he was intimidatingly more lean and buff than the skinny figure that had accidentally walked into him. Jonathan gulped as his cheeks burned in embarrassment, "Oh! Damn, I'm sorry!"

The guy sighed and gave Jonathan a genuine look, "No, I should have seen you coming."

"But I was the one-"

"I said it was fine, it was just an accident." The guy protested as he kept walking, leaving Jonathan confused. Most people would curse him out or just give him weird stares. Maybe the rumors of people acting nice before the purge was true.

Jonathan shook his head abruptly and he ran after the guy as he realized that something was on the sidewalk. It was a wallet. He quickly looked inside of it, and he realized something. It was the guy whom he had bumped into that was on the ID. Jonathan looked around and saw the guy still walking in the horizon. "H-Hey! Wait up!" Jonathan shouted as he ran up to the guy. Confused, the guy turned around and faced the tired clown as he handed him the wallet. "H-Here, your, your wallet fell out."

"Oh, thanks." The guy muttered as he took the wallet.

Trying to be friendly, Jonathan smiled, "I didn't catch your name, mine is J-Delirious."

The guy raised an eyebrow at Jonathan, and he answered, "I'm, Evan."

Jonathan licked his red lips nervously, thinking about what he was going to say next, "Evan, eh? Say, are you going to participate in the purge this-"

Jonathan couldn't finish his question, because he gasped as Evan gripped his arm and brought his face close to his', making Jonathan tense. Evan brought his lips close to the clown's ear, "Look, clown, I know what you're doing, and if you think it will work on me, then you are totally wrong. If you're here to only become my alliance, then you're wasting your precious warm-up time. I already have plenty of alliances, and I don't think I need anymore, thank you very much."

Jonathan gulped, his breathing shaky yet soft, "How did you know?"

Evan smirked and lowered his eyes to the ground, "I have my ways. And um, it was pretty obvious." He then stopped talking once he realized some neighbors gave them weird glances. He cleared his throat and let go of Jonathan's arm and backed up, suddenly grinning at him, "Hey, don't fret. I'm sure you have enough people to follow around, right?"

Just to not bring attention to himself, Jonathan rubbed his burning red arm and muttered, "Right. . ."

Evan turned to walk away, but he stopped halfway and turned back to look at Jonathan, "Oh! And one more thing!

"Happy Purge Day!"
